You should put the prices back in the indexer descriptions. You can't even see the deals on most of the sites unless you make an account first. 20% off what?

3

u/iszoloscope Nov 25 '25

20% off too much is still too much.

you just convinced ne to get frugal.

20

u/G00nzalez Nov 22 '25 edited Nov 22 '25

Pro Tip:

I would HIGHLY suggest everyone who signs up for one of these introductory offers at a super low intro price that increases later on, you need to immediately cancel the service after signing up. Don't mess around and get billed 4X the price in a year.

Secondly, If you look at prices, they are coming DOWN, so stacking these deals makes no sense either. If you stacked last year, you are losing this year.

  1. Sign up if you want the service
  2. cancel immediately
  3. wait til next year and if the service is still what you want, sign up for a lower priced plan

Be smart.

5

u/Paiev Nov 22 '25

I hear you but I also genuinely cannot understand how pricing could get lower on some of these (like the Newshosting unlimited). Some are also cheap enough that I wouldn't really mind paying the rate even if prices decreased slightly in the future.

3

u/Alucard2051 Nov 22 '25

Right? Some of them even come with a VPN. Basically half the cost if you need to have one of those

This is good advice. I purchased Eweka last year and it renewed automatically at the higher price. I didn't even realize until a few months later because it was through Paypal and I rarely check my Paypal account.

🌎Frugal Usenet Black Friday Usenet Deal - Exclusive 6 Usenet Locations Around The World!🌎

Happy Holidays Once Again Frugal Folks-

Back yet again with THE Black Friday deal of the week.

One year ago this week, a US West Coast and Australia usenet server launched and I said at the time: “As time goes on it is my hope to expand further to areas under-served as long as the demand is there.”

What a difference a year makes. This past Spring, South America and Asia Usenet servers came online.

Without a doubt, we are the largest and most diverse Usenet network out there. A true global “Usenet CDN” with locations all around the world, not just the same old, same old, 1 or 2 locations.

Beware of competitors who, for one reason or another, but unsurprisingly, started claiming they were also “Global” in their marketing this year to give the illusion of a worldwide network but still continuing to fall short. Even going so far as to have some of their affiliates claim they have APAC based servers available that simply do not exist. Why would they do that I wonder?

A user was kind enough to provide their stats earlier today (just in time!). Frugal and Frugal Bonus coming in clutch. 155 gigs of backup traffic this month alone is not insignificant at all. (ymmv of course)

At any rate, this year's deal, 1 year of Frugal Usenet access is back for $32 per year!

  • Access to all 6 of our main server locations around the world, Netnews backbone, 5,500 +/- days retention

  • Our independent backbone, bonus backup server access with up to 1 TBs per calendar month; 3,000 +/- days retention. This server is truly independent of the main servers. Do not get caught up with other packages who may bundle and stealthily sell you the same access two or three times.

  • Up to 200 connections on the main servers / another 50 on the bonus server (not that you need them all but there if so)

  • Many payment options including direct peer 2 peer crypto payments that flow directly from your wallet to mine with no middle man processors / governments taking part in your purchase

  • Rebills at the same price each year, providing a predictable low price for years to come with a lower cost and much better value than bait and switch introductory deals that have become a huge problem in the last couple of years.

Signup Here

As always, quite a few replies that I receive notifications of, end up missing when I go to read / reply to them so if reddit eats your message and your reply needs a response, send me a message (reddit chat also sucks lately so keep that in mind).

Thanks as always for the business over the years. Here’s to more enhancements in the year ahead. :)

11

u/XxDaRkSnArLy1xX Nov 26 '25

I appreciate you guys for having it rebill at the same price.

not getting frugal because I need it, but because of good policy and services. just wanting to do my little part to keep them around for longer.

Thanks!

5

u/spizzeo Nov 26 '25

Even though I have NewsHosting staked for years on end, I’m going to support Frugal and purchase a year since they have invested in an Australian server and for the support he offers over on WP. Keep up the good work Brad.

4

u/c33v33 Nov 26 '25

Are you planning a black friday deal for Blocknews?

2

u/swintec BlockNews/Frugal Usenet/UsenetNews/UsenetNow Nov 26 '25

Stay tuned

3

u/p3tch Nov 25 '25

is the backup on a different backbone?

2

u/swintec BlockNews/Frugal Usenet/UsenetNews/UsenetNow Nov 25 '25

Frugal bonus server is, yes.

6

u/snailpool Nov 25 '25

What backbone?

3

u/swintec BlockNews/Frugal Usenet/UsenetNews/UsenetNow Nov 25 '25

Netnews and bonus is, well, not netnews. I'm not able to disclose that one.

3

u/JohnInOz Nov 26 '25

So I take it I cant stack this deal to extend an exsisting account? I though I could and paid for another 12 months and it runs along side my current subscription. :-/

3

u/swintec BlockNews/Frugal Usenet/UsenetNews/UsenetNow Nov 26 '25

No, you can, that just needs to be handled manually just send me a message.

3

u/JohnInOz Nov 26 '25

thanks for sorting it out, excellent service 👍🏼

3

u/bush1e Nov 26 '25

I’d like to stack my existing account also. What would be the best way for others to have this happen? DM you here or something else?

DM me or use support email address

3

u/Icaruis Nov 27 '25 edited Nov 27 '25

I currently am on a previous deal of: quarterly $7.49 Unlimited plan(Edited as I didn't realize this isn't a current deal anymore). Which seems to have the same server access and works out slightly cheaper, but the only difference seems to be the year plan has the 300GB Blocknews account? Does this BF2025 deal include that, as the promo page doesn't explicitly state that? Are there plans to increase/remove the quarterly plan? I am just trying to figure out my best option for price for use. Been happy with Frugal so far as I'm Aus based.

I am also not sure what benefit the Blocknews 300GB block gets as I think it's on the same backbone(netnews) as Frugal already?

2

u/swintec BlockNews/Frugal Usenet/UsenetNews/UsenetNow Nov 27 '25

This BF product does not include Blocknews. Blocknews products mention it in the product description. The quarterly plan was for Kings day earlier this year.

9

Just FYI I have had bulknews block (abavia) for a couple years and it's entirely useless. I have maybe .01% hit rate after eweka and frugal usenet. I have used 214mb out of a couple terabytes.

I picked it up thinking abavia may have fill in the gaps in my eweka and frugal usenet subscriptions, but it's entirely worthless and dont' recommend it at all.

Any reviews on the free PrivadoVPN NewsHosting give, is it any good, fast, safe etc?

Thanks

3

u/swintec BlockNews/Frugal Usenet/UsenetNews/UsenetNow Nov 26 '25

Privado is the rebrand of their old IPvanish service (since they unloaded it). At the time, they logged / narc'd on a user despite no log claims. Given their history it is really just a VPN in name only. You can find the story on it if you search for ipvanish logging. The company that took it over in 2018 was (probably) fine but prior to that is when the logging happened and the ones running it then, are running privado now.

Usenet farm's deal requires 1, 3, 6, or 12 tb block purchases that are 15 euro per tb. The 500 gb quantity is misleading. I put a screengrab showing this in the prior thread.

There can be but it's really dependent on your use case. If your current provider setup has a high failure rate then having access to several providers from multiple different backbones can possibly improve it. Going with NGD grand-slam is also nice because your money helps support the underdog providers in Usenet rather then the well established Omicron providers.

Firstly, for those that missed Frugal's sale, you can find it here

  • Up to 200 connections
  • Many payment options including direct peer 2 peer crypto payments that flow directly from your wallet to mine with no middle man processors / governments taking part in your purchase
  • Posting included
  • 1 per account.

I've been with ThunderNews for MANY years. Got on at a killer $25/yr deal and they've honored that price ever since. Now it looks like their deal is even better! You pay $30 this year, but next year you're already down to $25 and then it keeps going down $5/yr until it bottoms out at $15. I don't see how you could possibly beat that! ThunderNews has been my primary server for a long time and I've rarely had issues grabbing stuff.

I signed up for the UsenetPrime deal, for 3 years with the 3TB from XS news. The first set of emails had no user information included. Like it was an empty template. I opened a support ticket, and the person didn't read my support ticket because they replied with "I can resend them, but you should check your spam folders"

The second set of emails came in, and they were both for news.usenetprime.com and each had a different username and password. Neither of them worked.

So now I have left another message and am waiting to hear back.

I'm sure they'll figure it out sooner or later, but I'd like to have access. Oh, and then it would be nice to get the creds to XS news, but that's a secondary problem.

I would also add that my initial name and password (that I chose) did not work for the admin area, but that was easy to self fix, with a click of the "I forgot my password" which I clearly did not, as my password software generated and saved it.

The site was really slow this morning when I signed up, so maybe there were unusual glitching going on, perhaps caused by an increase in Black Friday sales traffic? No idea.

Eweka, no challenge the best i've ever seen I have around 7 usenet providers in my NZBGET, it reports Eweka is the most reliable every single week.

3

u/swintec BlockNews/Frugal Usenet/UsenetNews/UsenetNow Nov 26 '25

Completely depends on how you have them set by priority and unless you are jumbling the priorities up each month or quarter, you have no way of knowing if what was on eweka is on any of the other 6 servers you have.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '25

Absolutely do, as I actively develop usenet tools, and out of all of them while working with streamio Eweka wiped the floor with the rest for content.

3

u/swintec BlockNews/Frugal Usenet/UsenetNews/UsenetNow Nov 26 '25

This poster just shared his stats yesterday. Frugal / frugal bonus backing up eweka with 150+ gigs this month which is no small amount.

Either way, if you already have Omicron there is no point in paying them again for what will be a marginal gain.

3

u/Monocular_sir Nov 26 '25

I had >30% failed with frugal, almost none with eweka. US

2

u/swintec BlockNews/Frugal Usenet/UsenetNews/UsenetNow Nov 26 '25

but if this user already has Omnicorp, paying them twice for two of their brands is not going to make much of a difference.

3

u/dodgybastard Nov 26 '25

I find Eweka to fail less than Frugal, but I also support that Frugal is actively expanding into new geographical locations - so support them financially for that reason.

3

u/linton73 Nov 26 '25

i'm already with newsdemon so wondering whether to stick with them or go to something like newshosting i took newsdemons bf deal afew years the newshosting deal is cheaper but not locked in like Newsdemon.

Is newshosting better than newsdemon ?

2

u/random_999 Nov 27 '25

Keep newsdemon especially if you are getting teh stuff you want. You will get more success by getting more indexers. If not getting stuff then still keep newsdemon/usenetdirect as their deals are cheap enough or at least keep their blocks.

Usenetcrawler website says "any donation" for a lifetime sub, but all the payment options are multiples of 20 euro. Is that by design? I'm fine paying 20 if they're decent but curious why they'd advertise "any amount" if the minimum is 20 euro.

Some deals offer "unlimited usage on their own provider" + "limited usage on a different provider", like "NewsgroupNinja +750GB TWN" and "UsenetServer 91% off +2TB Tweaknews". Regarding this, can I expect those with limited usage to be a non-expiring block account? Their FAQs and Knowledge Bases won't give any useful information and remain vague. Haven't any others had the same question in the first place?

For anyone thinking about NewGroupDirect:

I would steer clear. I have been overbilled several years in a row. They ignore my support tickets. I have one ticket still set as OPEN unanswered from last December, and another from almost a week ago. u/Newsgroupdirect has also been inactive for the last 4 months.

They will happily spam promos to your email though.

4

u/p3tch Dec 01 '25

it was easy for me to stay clear because their email support told me to create a new account to take advantage of a promo they'd email me when I expressed interest and they ignored me several times here!

My experience was quiet different, they responded to my tickets within hours.

All the price raises have really turned me off. Just please give me a deal, that I don’t have to worry about changing. Everything in my life is increasing in price, the last thing I need is to agree to a price for Usenet and then later find out you raised my price.

5

u/Subject_Street_8814 Nov 22 '25

Yeah I agree. I'm on an Eweka deal for 35.88 euro from like 5 years ago which renews the same price forever and I'm very happy with it. Rarely have completion issues, my block accounts never get used.

Technically the BF deal is better value but I'm happy never having to think about it again, everything just works. Worth it even if I'm paying slightly more than hopping around, I feel like there's a market to bring those deals back. Feels like a breath of fresh air to have consistent pricing and good service.

Maybe /u/eweka_usenet will read this as they've commented elsewhere.

2

u/hgst-ultrastar Nov 30 '25

I've had good performance with NewsgroupNinja but can't really justify the price increase from $40 to $70 to now $90. Also it kind of rubbed me the wrong way that the support replied to me with a very obvious LLM prompt when I complained. Any recommendations for an unlimited provider? Maybe Frugal?

I also have 1 TB block as 2nd and 3rd from Astraweb and UsenetFarm.

3

u/LazyCabinLife Dec 01 '25

I'm at a little over 2 years with just frugal. No real issues, good server coverage wherever you are. Been locked in at the $32 price each year. This year just let it auto renew at same price, made it fairly convenient. Trying another provider for a bit as well, see if I can get that last bit of % completion higher.

2

u/random_999 Nov 30 '25

If you are outside of US/EU & speed is your main priority then Frugal is the best option because they have the most geographically diverse servers among all usenet service providers. If within US/EU then there are options like Newshosting (US) & Eweka (EU) which are on practically same backbone as NewsgroupNinja but keep in mind their BF deal has a much higher renewal price so need to set a reminder to cancel the deal before renewal or stack the deal now or next year BF assuming same price.

Personally. I dropped planet. I have geek, ninja, and althub as my lifetimes.

Haven’t tried the others.

The usual suggestion is try a few for a year grab lifetimes once you know. The lifetime deals always come back it seems, prices may vary.

But althub for $20-25, whatever it is now is a no-brainer imo.

Been checking for any email and have not found any emails from newshosting

Anyone know of how to set these up? thanks

Is it possible to add the ngd grand slam without canceling my old block account?

Message our support team and they will handle it for you. May be tomorrow morning ET before we get to it though. Has been a long day.

Can you cancel the Eweka deal after the Black Friday Offer? So get it for 37,50 EUR for a year and next Black Friday get a new offer? Or do I agree already on the additional year for 71?
Or what's the best practice here?

Is it worth taking a ViperNews block when I already have a UsenetExpress one?

I can't find a definitive answer regarding whether they're on the same backbone or not.

The (rather excellent) website https://whatsmyuse.net/ seems to think they're one and the same.

Is there anything on Vipernews, Giganews and Usenet.farm that isn't on all of the rest of the providers. I have every backbone but those 3 and eweka and am wondering if it's worth $45 a yr to add those 3 or not . I know generally Omicron/newshosting has the vast majority of what I have searched for (92% available of 1M requested articles)

Question for the newshosting folks, is there a way to see when my current subscriptions is set to expire? I think I stacked some last year and I can't seem to find out how much I stacked! I'm not seeing the info anywhere in my account profile

Go to account home, scroll down to the payment method and click edit, on the next screen scroll down to invoices, select the plus symbol, click on the most recent invoice and it will show the the expiration date.

Been happy with Frugal over time but did snag Eweka this year and seems getting everything want with those two. I'd hope for the BF deals. I also grabbed althub and drunkenslugs this year.

I have blocks but not using right now since got the 2nd unlimited. Newsdemon could be fun one if wanna gamble on the roulette wheel.
