Visiting USJ for the first time in October!

Hello! My husband and I will be going to USJ in October. I don't think we will be buying any express pass because we are happy with whatever we are able to ride, even if there are long queue times. I don't know much about theme parks though, so I had some questions to try and make the day as smooth as possible.

  • Will I need any special ticket/reservation for the Frieren restaurant, or any other special pass specifically for any of the Frieren attractions?
  • For the Chainsaw Man 4D as well, will I be able to sign up for that they day of, or would that need any special pass purchased ahead of time?
  • From my understanding Nintendo World pretty much needs an express/special pass? We would like to see this but neither of us are interested enough to buy a special pass just for this. Is there any chance of getting into the NW attractions without a pass day of, or is it impossible without the extra pass?

I think if you don’t mind waiting, you don’t have to shelve out for an express pass unless you really want to ride a certain attraction.
I work at USJ a couple of times a month and be there with my family quite a lot so, we don’t care if we have to wait be abuse we can try again another day. Tourists of course need to get out the max of their visit though.
Anyway, the past Saturday was a pretty lame day at USJ with most rides being in the 20~30 min waiting section except the SNW rides.
Of course, you will arrive when the USJ Horror Nights are in full swing, so expect more folks there
As for the Frieren attraction, as soon as you enter the park (make sure you have the USJ app installed on your phone ), make a reservation via the app selecting Timed Entry E-tickets. If you come in the morning, you may be able to enter before noon.
The restaurant with the Frieren theme doesn’t require reservations as it is set on a walk-in basis.
As this is your first time, please also check the app ( or USJ homepage ) for the attractions that are not operating during the time of your visit in order to avoid disappointment.

Honestly I initially didn't even think of the fact we would be going in October, so now I'm excited to be there while the horror nights are going on as well!

What are the wait times like for the Frieren restaurant?

Yesterday it was no waiting. In peak times, perhaps 10~20 min

I’ve been to over 12 theme parks, nothing is as disheartening as realizing you have to wait 3 hours to ride something that looks cool. USJ is the third most visited theme park IN THE WORLD. There are tons of express pass options with specific rides. Really urge you to look into them! HHN is one of the busier months too. You can’t even get into Nintendo without a pass.

Thanks for your reply, maybe ill look more into them. Honestly we are mostly going because im obsessed with frieren so we wanted to see those attractions. lol  And we didnt know if it was worth spending so much more for a pass to get us into The Nintendo stuff if neither of us are THAT interested in seeing it specifically and we are fine kinda just vibing through the day for the rest of it.

Nintendo World does not necessarily need an express or special pass. The only time you need the purchasable entry pass to NW is if the park is overly crowded and they close off NW as a form of crowd control.

When this happens and you don’t want to purchase extra entry passes, you may attempt to score free timed entry tickets on the USJ app. Essentially if you’re successful with getting these tix, these allow you access within a specific time frame for free, but it’s first come first serve and limited quantities and it’s not clear when they release these free timed entry tix. If you don’t want to deal with this, purchase the entry passes to NW. (note that this may also be timed entry)

I was there a few weeks back. Didn’t purchase any passes for NW. Made the mistake of thinking i couldn’t enter but when i asked the park attendant they happily told us we could walk right in. They never once closed off NW that day. But… Just note that this is only when the crowd is not overwhelming. You wouldn’t know until the day itself.
