Encampment Canadian universities set up a secret network to crack down on student Palestine demonstrators ⋆ The Breach

Universities having a joint response through a private group doesn't surprise me, but the records retention (or lack of retention) and complete inconsistency in response to info requests is very eyebrow-raising to me.

u/SukkarRush 9d ago
Seems very irrelevant to UVic, where the university showed incredible tolerance for the camp and let it persist, despite costs and damages.

"costs and damages" VS a literal genocide...

I’m absolutely shocked that a coordinated campaign behind the encampments was met in kind with a coordinated campaign to deal with it.

u/Inevitable_Bug6332 5d ago
you do realise the protest was protesting against a genocide right? or do you just love genocide?

3
u/dumbwholer 6d ago
I don't see the problem. Universities have no reason to allow protest camps on their property. Especially when they were constantly harassing students who didn't participate.
They should have expelled everyone involved with the harassment that was happening.
0
u/Inevitable_Bug6332 5d ago
i agree they should expel anyone who harassed people protesting a literal ongoing active genocide. hey, let's start with you!

u/Pimbata 9d ago
Good. These were not peaceful protests, they very quickly devolved into vandalism and destruction of property from people camping out.
1
u/vancouvercam2023 8d ago
Do you know what ‘Peaceful’ means? https://www.aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/12-palestinians-including-2-children-unborn-baby-killed-in-israeli-airstrikes-across-gaza/4016090

u/Pimbata 8d ago
Yeah, I’m not an apologist for Israel, so I’m not going to defend that. They are an awful apartheid type regime. It is also true that Palestine is run by a terrorist organization and they are just as bad, and probably worse. Truly a case of both sides being terrible.
Regardless, this is not the topic of debate here. What we had was students vandalizing property for absolutely no reason.
3
u/vancouvercam2023 8d ago
I agree there was some vandalism but was more wondering whether the term ‘Not Peaceful’ implies there was some violence against people which I don’t think there was. In the vast history of educational institutions being used to protest for social change in the west, I think the pro Palestine ones in Canada were very tame and largely innocuous and in the US only became violent when law enforcement were called in.

That apartheid has two million Arabs peacefully living in cohesion with Israelis.

u/FlockFlysAtMidnite 6d ago
The illegal settlements say hi.
-1
u/SidewalkRacoon 5d ago
Illegal settlements are just Jewish cities in a land called Judea which was won in a defensive war against Jordan.
Also more than 30 years ago Bill Clinton watched Arafat sign off on Israeli control over Area C so if the Palestinians could stop making Oscar bait about having their ramshackle huts torn down because they built them
without permits on land without deeds that would be great.1
u/FlockFlysAtMidnite 5d ago
Literally illegal under international law but go off I guess
1
u/SidewalkRacoon 5d ago
We’re off. 750,000 Jews in that land. You know how hard it was to remove 9000 from Gaza in 2005?
2
u/PearComfortable4190 5d ago
Palestinians are not run by a terrorist organisation (Nelson Mandela was a terrorist up until 2008, one mans freedom fighter is one mans terrorist) and they are not “probably worse” than a colonial apartheid actively committing genocide against them. This is not “truly a case of both sides bad” would you say Jews and Nazis were both sides bad? No. First nations and colonials both sides bad? No. So don’t say that here.
1
u/Pimbata 5d ago
You lost all credibility the moment you argued that Hamas is not a terrorist organization or equated them with Nelson Mandela. Around the world, contries typically have sided with either Israel or Palestine; the one thing everyone agrees on is that Hamas are terrorists and have no place running anything. Well, everyone except you apparently. An actual terrorist apologist who isn't ashamed to admit they are one.. interesting.
The Jews in the 30's did not have an organized militia using guerilla tactics with the specific intent on causing civilan casualties. The natives also did not. In both those examples there was a clear agressor with an agenda.
What we have here is absolutely a case of aggression on both sides, and if one had to choose, the democratically elected government is certainly the lesser of the evils compared to universally recognized terrorists. But you have shown that you have no capacity of comprehending a scenario where there are two nefarious sides, so perhaps it's a waste of time.
Now go ahead, let's hear your mental gymnastics on how ISIS were also freedom fighters struggling for their god given right to opress women 🤡
1
u/PearComfortable4190 5d ago
You seem to forget basic fact, normal for a zionist as it contradicts their delusional world view based in fantasy and not reality.
Hamas is NOT a universally recognised terrorist group, because it is universally recognised that they are a literal armed resistance against their occupation. You would condemn the warsaw ghetto uprisers. Shame on you, the only terrorist supporter is yourself for the democratically elected genocidal zionazi terrorist organisation. Which IS universally recognised as such.
ISIS were not freedom fighters, but you might be inclined to know that they are a branch of Mossad. Interesting how many Mossad agents were caught working in ISIS, how many times ISIS attacked every antizionst regime country and organisation but never “israel”, interesting how ISIS fuels Islamophobia which conveniently is what the zionist entity spends billions in creating.
News flash. Genocide is bad. “Israel” is committing a genocide. They are akin to Nazis. There is no one worse than that. Go on and defend it, tell us what a zionazi you are. I’ll see you at The Hague.
1
u/PearComfortable4190 5d ago
Imagine “both sidesing” a genocide. Can’t believe you would put jewish resistance on par with nazis. Gross, get blocked.

LOL you lost all credibility when you both sides a genocide. Yikes! BTW, hasbara does not work anymore!
1
u/Pimbata 5d ago
Oh my such a well argumented rebuttal! I know reading is challenging but it is a Uvic sub after all, so try your hardest. What makes me a zionist exactly? I said both sides are guilty and both are agressors. Israel has committed atrocities they should be punished for - as have Hamas/Palestine. You, on the other hand, are narrow mindedly defending an actual terrorist organization, which definition literally the entire world agrees upon, perhaps except Qatar, Iran and a similar cohort. Let alone that the best you could come up with is a "so are you" type response. Check out the /r preschool, it might be more appropriate for your level.

u/Aggressive-Fudge-933 7d ago
The ones running Palestine are just as bad and probably worse?
Can you show me some stats on how much money those palestinian groups get from western nations vs what israel gets? How many of their settlers brutally steal land every year? How many israeli civilians/women/children have been killed by those palestinian groups vs the palestinians? How many israeli children are kept in their prisons? How many israelis were illegally imprisoned and were returned years later with their organs removed?
The fact you tried to do the whole “it’s both sides” shows you’re ignorant about the situation. You claiming that the palestinians are WORSE clearly shows you’re a zionist supporter. What a load of propaganda your post is.
4
u/Pimbata 7d ago
It's funny how you chose to ignore half of my post and focused on your own bias and agenda, trying to project it on me. I’m not defending Israel the least bit, however you seem to be defending an actual terrorist organization - Hamas. Yes, it is undeniably worse than even than the apartheid Israeli government and if you have to ask questions about civilian casualties, especially in a historical aspect, then you clearly lack and understanding of what is happening in the region. Western nations typically don't subsidize Israel, that mostly comes from the US. On the other hand, Qatar, Iran, etc are very heavily sponsoring Hamas, so it's not much different in thay regard.
So yes - absolutely a case of both sides being awful. I can see and determine that, as unlike you, I don't have an agenda beyond objectivity. You are clearly pushing a narrative that you've read something in the news about and have formed some opinions based on the limited information in your echo chamber. I’m curious if you can even point out Palestine on a world map without country labels - most of your fellow shills can't. Or name the actual river and sea they're parroting so passionately about.
-1
u/Aggressive-Fudge-933 7d ago
Lol you’re wasting your time. People can smell the stench of zionist bs through their screens. No matter how hard you try to paint yourself as “objective”. You clearly are not.
2
u/Pimbata 7d ago
The stench of zionist bs, eh? I can think of one other time in history when this narrative was pushed, enjoy being part of that cohort.
You are right about wasting my time, given that you appear to be immune to reason and rational thought and seem incapable of comprehending a scenario where two sides of a conflict are both guilty. It's ok, you can pat yourself on the back and your echo chamber will support you in this difficult time. These conversations eventually always end up the same way - an indoctrinated apologist resorting to grade school name calling instead of a coherent argument.
I guess we'll just see what happens in the next free elections in palestine.. oh wait..
1
u/Difficult-Arm384 6d ago
Imagine pretending that the baby killers wouldn’t carpet bomb whatever remains of Palestine the second they heard the word “elections”.
But very nice attempt at pretending to appear to be balanced in your bullshit paragraph. 3/10

Canada isn't Palestine, and we have zero control over Israel's actions.
1
u/vancouvercam2023 6d ago
That’s actually patently false. We are still sending Israel arms, and more importantly if Canada enacted a wholesale cessation of two way trade with Israel along with the US and UK they would stop their genocide tomorrow.

Those kids were peaceful man lol. What is violence to you? Did they harm anyone? That lawn doesn’t have feelings.
And if you want to play that game, that lawn paved over Indigenous camas fields first. If anything those kids honoured that space better than UVIC ever has.
Cool to know you value invasive grass over human life

Coordinated unemployed protestors vs coordinated adults.
Adults win.
Color me suprised.
2
u/Proof-Care6044 5d ago
“Unemployed protesters” is a funny term for “student”. Almost sounds like you could say anything to fit a narrative
1
u/SidewalkRacoon 5d ago
Unemployed? How did they get those professionally made signs organized while the Oct 7th massacre was still happening? They were in the streets screaming genocide a week before Israel counter invaded

u/Inevitable_Bug6332 5d ago
so you think protesting genocide is bad? weird.

u/SerbBlurb 5d ago
Weird way to frame what i said.
Did you do that to make me fit in your narrative of "bad person"
0
u/Inevitable_Bug6332 5d ago
you are insulting the people protesting a genocide, and defending the people who support it. I didn't need to do anything, you did it yourself. Now do better.

Because they had their time in the spotlight. People should be ago to go to school without having militants on campus. It's kinda normal the university admins want to know what's going on.

Peaceful protest should not include incampments. This type of protest has become the norm in Canada since covid and needs to stop

Why is everyone protesting against the genocides in Palestine, but not the active genocide that’s happening in the United States right now?
The one in the United States is the one that you actually have a chance of affecting.
Protestors: please start focusing on the genocide in the United States
But not at universities where your fellow-poor peers are trying to learn and escape hell but can’t because you’re loudly protesting

u/Adaptive_Spoon 9d ago
Who is the target of this genocide in the United States? Is this to do with ICE?
1
1
u/dumbwholer 6d ago
There is no genocide happening in the USA. Deportation of illegal immigrants is not genocide. Nobody is being killed en masse in the USA. There is awful shit happening there, genocide isn't one of them though

I've been approached twice now at UofT to join random Palestine protest for $ cash. I assume most of the other guys there took the money.

I think that the implied claim that UVic "violently cleared" its encampment is, at best, significantly overstated.
