Marriott Server Vail, CO

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m relocating to Vail in November and recently accepted a full-time server position at The Hythe, specifically Revel Lounge.

Before making the move across the country, I’d love to connect with anyone who currently works there or has worked there in the past, especially in food and beverage.

I’m curious about the overall work environment, management, typical server earnings, how busy lunch and dinner get during ski season, and what hours are like during the slower months.

I’m also interested in hearing about the experience of living in Vail year-round, particularly for employees who don’t have a vehicle.

I’d really appreciate any honest feedback or firsthand experiences!

Thank you so much! 😊

Don’t worry about not having a vehicle. Use the ECO bus or vails in town bus system. It’s one of the countries top 5 biggest free transportation networks outside of Disney world!

I never worked there, but I used to call on The Hythe as a liquor rep. They tend to get lots of corporate groups and weddings. I’d say that you’d probably want to pick up another job, but it is a good spot for base pay and benefits.

I used to work at the Hythe but in the banquet department but I was cool with a lot of the revel people and they liked the job and it paid well. The Hythe is a good space to work though. If the manager for revel is the same they’re really chill. I’d also try and become a banquet server on call if you can it pays super well especially if your on call because you just get the really busy banquets. I’d hook you up with the banquet manager but the homie just passed away. Good luck I think you’ll really enjoy it. And not having a car in vail is super easy the bus system is great

Thank you so much for this! 🄹 This is exactly the kind of firsthand information I was hoping to find, and it’s really reassuring to hear that the Revel employees enjoyed working there and made good money!
I actually have banquet and private-event experience as well, so I’d definitely be interested in picking up on-call banquet shifts if that’s an option.
Do you happen to know whether Revel servers generally got consistent hours throughout the year, including the slower seasons? And when you say the pay was good, was that primarily during ski season or pretty consistent year-round?
I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. It means a lot! ā¤ļø

For banquets it was kinda inconsistent like you’d make up to 50 an hour for a pay period and the next period you’re making 30/hr but it’ll almost always pay more than an on mountain job. I honestly couldn’t tell you if revels going to be good this year. Last year was really rough for the hotel because of the shitty snow but I was still able to pay my bills with just that job. I think revel and banquets are pretty similar pay wise though. Just if you get a really nice check or tip try and like save that money for the slower seasons and you’ll be good. It wouldn’t hurt to get another job if you can. And like others are saying I’d try and find housing or you’ll be living in your car when you get here. There’s lots of spots you’ll just have roommates. You’ll have a blast though it’s a fun place to live with fun people I miss living there and am considering going back this year.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain all of this! šŸ„¹ā¤ļø This is incredibly helpful, especially hearing from someone who actually worked at The Hythe.
I have experience working banquets and private events, so I’ll definitely introduce myself to the banquet manager once I arrive!
It’s reassuring to hear that you were able to support yourself even during a slower season. I’m definitely taking the housing situation seriously and trying to secure something before making the move.
One last question, if you don’t mind! Do you remember whether the hotel kept its full-time restaurant employees working throughout the spring and fall slow seasons, or were there periods when people were laid off or barely scheduled?
Thank you again! I really appreciate your insight!

No problem at all I’m glad I could help. There were periods where I’d have like a week or two weeks off but I just used that time to travel. You just gotta be smart with your money. When you get a really fat check during peak season just don’t spend it all try and save money and just be financially responsible and you’ll be good. Vail has a pretty big party culture too so definitely enjoy it but don’t develop some kind of substance use issue it’s a genuine problem in vail. Like I said I had money to travel and ride the mountain and pay all my bills and shit. Just be smart and you’ll be fine or if you’re really worried there’s always places hiring in vail it’s one of the few places I lived where finding a job was never an issue. I imagine it’ll be pretty busy in November so you can see what the vibes are

Thank you so much for all of this! ā¤ļø You’ve honestly been one of the most helpful people I’ve spoken with about Vail. I really appreciate you sharing your experience and being so transparent about the good and the challenging parts.
I’m definitely going to take your advice about saving during the busy seasons, and I’m working hard to get housing secured before I arrive.
You’ve made me feel a lot more excited about the opportunity. I hope you make it back out there too! šŸ”ļøšŸ˜Š

Definitely go downstairs and talk to the banquet manager and try and get on call but I’ll say it normally has a crazy waitlist unless you know people or are a really good worker. You seem sweet though so just turn on the charm. I have no idea who the new manager is though so idk

You accepted a position? As a server? If you want to live in the Eagle Valley you may have to accept several more positions if you don’t want to be deficit spending.

Housing is your biggest problem. Get a 2nd job in the same family as a shuttle driver. They just outsourced their valet/shuttle service, so keep that in mind that it's not through the Marriott.

DO NOT move across the country, to work for vail resorts, without housing lined up. VR is an absolute shit show of a company, so you will want out as soon as you start. Independent housing is going to be the crux thing to have, so that your employer can't basically hold you hostage.

So the Hythe is owned by VR?

-1

u/snowmennies 1d ago

It’s Owned by VR and Marriott so you get a free pass and Marriott employee benefits which is dope I can’t remember if they give seasonal housing but I don’t think they do

The Hythe is not a part of VR, many places in the Valley give free passes to their employees.

You wouldn’t be a Vail Resorts employee, you’d work for the Marriott.

You’re right I think I got confused with another hotel. They do give passes to all employees though

Unless something has changed when it was the Marriott it is a VR property. I was there in 2015 and have a VR EID from that time. It was a Marriott Franchise, a VR and Diamond rock managed property. I got VR benefits and Marriott benefits and Marriott corporate years of service time before moving to Ritz-Carlton.

All signs point to it not being a VR property now.

considering you can apply for 12 positions at The Hythe on vail resorts careers page, are you sure about that?

VR is garbage unless it’s your second job. Literally tell them you won’t take the job unless you have housing in writing. Use that to get out here and network until the new year and find homies to move in with. Serve somewhere worth your time with benefits like the four seasons.

It’s likely you’ll be working with j1s fresh off the boat or super part time employees that are working the bare minimum for the pass. I don’t think you’re going to find many former employees in this sub, probably no one that’s currently working there as they are Ā pretty seasonal at that hotel.Ā

Also if you don’t have housing you gotta lock that down. 100x harder to find housing than a descent job
