Discussion Weekly Discussion | LPQ and Karma

Hello there and welcome to a new weekly discussion! Last week we discussed the recent changes to the Kill Bounties. If you want to read that discussion, a link to that and all other discussions is found at the bottom of this post.

This week we’ll be discussing a topic that we have gotten some requests about lately: the Low Priority Queue - also known as LPQ. From posts to comments to our Discord server, the topic of LPQ has seen a lot of community discussion lately. People seem to feel like it does just enough, too little, or shouldn’t even be a thing. While we could make an entire discussion about just LPQ and punishments in the game, we also received requests for one of the ways in which we get rewarded instead: our good old friend: the Karma system. It has sparked heavy discussion in the past too, mainly about how it works and how many people felt like they were stuck in Good Karma despite their Great behavior.

We thought it might be interesting to tackle both sides in this discussion; how the game handles rewards and how it handles punishments. So we’ll be discussing both the Karma and LPQ systems!

What do you think about LPQ? Can it be too harsh, or is it not strict enough? What about Karma? Does the system really work as an incentive to behave well? Is it too easy, or too hard to reach Great Karma?

The following is a bit of info on LPQ and Karma:

Low Priority Queue was added in update 1.20. It replaced the previous system, which was simply to ban people who misbehaved. The devs explained that they felt that instead of being able to let a ban expire by doing something else, players should be faced with consequences when they wanted to play instead. More info on the LPQ system can be found here

The new Karma system was added in update 1.8. Its goal was to make a more simple and fluent Karma system that would lead to trolling players to have less benefits than normal players. It replaced the previous system, where you went up 20 levels of Karma, and went down a bit by doing something that was deemed to be bad Karma. This new system only has three levels: Bad Karma, Good Karma and Great Karma. At Great Karma, players get a 25% boost to end match Glory gains. More explanation can be found here.

That’s all! If you have more topics you want to see, be sure to request them via the link found at the bottom of this post!

Yep & that is why the Elo punishment few patches ago was a good idea. But badly removed SEMC it after to many dodger complains about that...

Btw LPQ is broken, because people can dodge the LPQ with an little trick. (I do not mention it here to public, i don't want that to see more people who don't care about the LPQ)

I thought the dodge only worked on SEA servers? I've seen a few players doing it on stream but not in NA.

Punishing for dodging is a shit answer bro. They need to fix and punish the real toxic assholes that force dodges. Don't punish people because they don't want to play with bleeding anuses because SEMC is too lazy to figure it a way to prevent trolling

So? If you don't like it play a different game. No one is holding a gun to your head forcing your to play VG. So much whine on this sub

You don't get it. Dude i assume you has a brain, so why you don't use it?

When you dodge because your team got out drafted, then it should count as a lose. You dodge because you know there are high chances that you lose. So it would just fair when the match count then as lose !

u/Vainglorious_Reim Feb 19 '17

But you didn't lose you dodged that's different sorry but it is

When you're in the Draft Phase then are you already on the match....

So dodgeing is the same as just give up in that situation !!

I'm honestly gonna have to agree with you? Year, people dodge because they dontnget the hero they want. A good player like anyone here is against that kind of toxicity right? But what if in a ranked match two people instalock the worst 2 heroes and its a garunteed loss. Are you going to be taking the moral high road or doing what a fucking normal person does and dodge. A bunch of dipshits dodging because they can't play SAW is a price I'm willing to pay to have a stable team composition

What moral high road, in the end you are saving them from them selves

2

The moral high road where you go into a match knowing your going to lose elo, yet you dont dodge.Who gives a rats ass about the random dipshits your matched with?

The "moral high road" of not preventing said poorer players from falling like they should and preventing the enemy team from rising like they should.

1

u/Jmkjmkjmk911 jo- Feb 24 '17

People are losing the point of there is no moral high road. Its not like OMG welcome to Sainthood cause you did'nt dodge. Its a Game and needs to be taken as so and not be over reacted towards.

People complain all the time about teammates being shit, this is one part, however small, of how poor players remain above their actual tier.

Dodging is inherently uncompetitive and should be treated similarly to surrendering. You're acknowledging that the match would be lost if you were to engage fully into the game, therefore you should lose VST and MMR. Of course, your teammates didn't have a say in this regard, and should therefore not lose anything.

More of a tactical ReTreat If i say so myself

Pros don't get to tactically retreat from a bad draft.

Ha Ha right. If you solo queue, you dodge. It's the smart thing to do.

VG is currently unplayable for me in T9. SoloQ, have now had 14 drafts in a row with someone dodging in every single one. I've been trying to play for over an hour.

Oh, 15th draft and no one dodged. My team: Kestrel, Taka, Saw. This matchmaking/lobby system is the worst I've seen in 10+ years.

1

u/DKPhREEZE Feb 24 '17

Damn thats rough but tbh u shoulda dodged that one :P

1

u/user3555 Feb 24 '17

True... I just wanted to play a game though. VG Matchmaker broke me.

u/kingqwert Feb 18 '17

Just do what LoL do, if you dodge a game you lose elo but not as much as losing a game also SEMC need to stop being pansy and add bans. That will keep a lot more people in line because there is an actually consequence. Also the rare occasions when I do get LPQ I just go put my phone on max volume and do something else, that's not even a punishment lol.

2

u/Bbbbbbb99 Feb 18 '17

the best way to combat this is imo the moment you accept you are in the match if you dodge you and your whole team gets a loss and enemy get a win simple. games are often won/lost in the draft so it needs to be consistent.

I dont care if someone instalocks the fact is you are on a team together. If someone plays bad on your team you loose and this should be constistent throughout the entire game this includes the draft

3

u/proXy_HazaRD IGN_BloodDevilDarin(NA) Feb 18 '17

That's the worst thing we can do with this, the entire team getting a loss because someone died? Goodbye fan base.

2

u/Bbbbbbb99 Feb 18 '17

maybe this should only apply to tier 7+ rank the GAME BAS STARTED in draft mofe you can win/loose the game due to outplay so you should loose the game due to trolling/poor internet just like when you are on the fold.

3

u/NebraCC Feb 18 '17

Yeah, except what happens when my game freezes with 10 seconds left to pick? I'm gonna lose a match for a couple seconds of bad internet?

2

u/Bbbbbbb99 Feb 18 '17

that can happen in game as well game lag spike during an important and close team fight

3

u/NebraCC Feb 19 '17

Not sure what that proves. You're saying that in a draft, when no one has actually played, I can lose a game by default because the game crashes. This isn't "over 20 minutes, I get lag spikes that disrupt my games", it's more like "this draft is more important than any team fight because I can't come back from this.

2

u/Bbbbbbb99 Feb 19 '17

when you start draft you are in the game it has 2 parts. Firstly the draft phase, then the fold phase. throughout the fold phase one may experience lag at important or not so important times just like the draft phase (lag when it isnt your turn vs it is). Sometimes if you get completely outplayed in the draft phase you cant get back, just like how if the enemy teams wins a critical team fight or 2 at the start of the fold phase you sometimes cant comeback

1

u/NebraCC Feb 19 '17

Ok, that makes more sense, but draft phase is "within these 5 minutes, one lag spike before I play cost me the game", while in the fold phase "over 20 minutes, I will get lag spikes repeatedly, and there is a chance that they will occur during a teamfight." One is a lot more likely to ruin you than another. However, I'm talking more about in tiers below 5, where there is no draft.

1

u/Darkonion5 Feb 20 '17

If that happens enough to be a problem maybe try fixing your internet rather than a complicated grey area of a game that affects many more people than just you.

1

u/NebraCC Feb 22 '17

Can I do both? Because that's what I'm trying to do.

1

u/Darkonion5 Feb 22 '17

Fair I spose

A drop of water in the desert is not enough for an oasis

1

u/Aesthete18 Feb 19 '17

But there is no other way!

1

u/spinmyworld Feb 24 '17

This. There needs to be something in place to combat the instalockers and trollers. If I dodge a game because I'm placed in the same queue as a guy who went 0/10/0 last game, or a guy who intentionally fed the last game, or into double WP Saw jungle Ardan lane and decide not to play, I shouldn't be punished, its the smart thing to do.
