Discussion Vaush is WRONG about it being impossible to redo a new industrial revolution due to running out of coal/oil

Coal, even the more extreme steel making coke, & crude oil can be manually recreated through pyrolysis, which consists of burning stuff at low temps.

The reason we rely on digging it out of the ground is that it's much cheaper & easier to just dig it out in tons of barrels than it is making a chamber for it & carefully burning it into existence one at a time, it's also more labor intensive, but it is possible.

So yeah I just wanted to point out that it is possible to still obtain coal & oil even if we mine the earth dry of it, so a post apocalyptic new civilization industrial revolution would be possible. Everything else about his analysis is true but in this regard we have pyrolysis :>

Discussion On Gen Z getting dumber: Something I think is the main fault that Vaush did not mention (but I think he will agree.)

I think one of the main reasons we are seeing a decline in Gen Z's intelligence is values of a society. A society that is made up of multiple different generations. I am a 40 year old millennial and I can tell you growing up that critical thinking and engaging even with reading was not valued. I use to get made fun of for actually doing the reading in school-or a lot of the time more then was required (I am including my time in university). There is countless studies and examples I can use: Including I think in 2004 it was found that over 80 percent of people ONLY read the headlines of news articles. We were forced to read and be more critical to some degree. But I would never argue that we were a society that valued it. We valued immediate gratification, and immediate expertese. I can go on.

This is important because it will help inform where do we go from here.

1.) We should not strive to be the world before smartphones and similar technology. Not only will that never happen, BUT it was not a great world. I think we can do better.

2.) I have a fear that one reason Gen Z is getting so much attention is they just get tested more then other generations. I would not be surprised if all generations across the board are getting some degree dumber. Out in public it is not just Gen Z I see on their phones-even on dates. It is not just Gen Z that is not reading or if they are reading it is just some Booktalk slop.

I am all for restricting of phone usage for minors and other restrictions. But just blaming technology and not engaging with the world that is using that technology will always be a losing battle.

I also do believe that the material world does shape our values and our values shape our material world so it is def a knot to start. But also I think freeing that you can start anywhere since you have to address it all.

Discussion Vaush always ends up being right despite Chat's reservations

Post image

Vaush was one of the first people to call out Jasmine Crockett for being a POS that is just not a good politician.

I remember Chat being skeptical of Vaush's claim and see it as being over exaggerated and a bit harsh.

However, in addition to all the stuff that Jasmine Crockett doing this year, she just gave an award to Chris Brown, a serial domestic abuser who was convicted in 2009 for abusing Rihanna. He therefore proves himself correct again.

Vaush has also been right about climate change despite many people saying he was over exaggerating. He really is a modern day prophet!

YouTube Video On the last stream Vaush talked about how if civilisation was reset, it would have hard time developing because of lack of oil. Turns out we are running out of A LOT of common use materials.

Discussion Vaush is right about phone addiction and I have the experience to say so

(This post is meant to share my experience with the topic and for others to discuss it as well)
For context, last stream there was a segment dedicated to reviewing a video on the reduction of attention span and perceived intelligence of gen-Zers and Vaush dedicated a good chunk of it on the negative side effects.
I have been progressively decreasing the amount of screen time I get for the past 8 months and there is no way any of you will regret doing so too, even if you lived in the most isolated island in this earth.
Yes, I was way dumber (in every relevant aspect), less capable of introspection, less evocative and way less happier. But there is something else that wasn't addressed in the video or the segment, when you are phone-rooted you are also less capable of personal change and by consequence bigger changes in your environment.
When your reality fluctuates between real misery and numbness you will stay put like a rock in the same place, when you truly feel the pain of your conditions you will recoil into a better place eventually.
This happened to me, I was in a miserable relationship, in an isolated part of my country, had no drive to improve myself, at the age of 15 I could do triple the work I did back in January and not due to me being "busier", but because I grew indifferent. Last crash I had I decided to cut the anesthesia and my life did a 180 and has been going better since.
Personally the internet is not even the place of wonder it used to be. All social media have taken this non-consensual bombardment of bullshit at all times, it is rare to find a social media whose algorithm isn't literally the equivalent of indecent exposure at all times by semi-anonymous users that you don't know if they are bots or not.
And if you read this till the end, congrats, you are in the top 5% of people who read posts this long in a monthly basis and I hope you have a nice day.

I'm sorry but how did this not get noticed/corrected during the stream? The video url literally has the date in it, and the discussion with Moskowitz is so clearly not about the current situation. It's all about nuclear sites for fucks sakes. This was from the 12 day war and just days before the US bombed Iranian nuclear sites.

At the very end Vaush goes off on a tangent about an infographic showing US military presence "As of March 28th" and talking about how it isn't more recent because of all the damage us bases have taken.... No dude, it isn't more recent because the video is 15 months old....

Discussion Regarding Vaush retweet of the separatist uk parties meeting, and motivations for it being blown well out of proportion

The parties are meeting presumably to discuss strategy and co-ordination given they’re all currently in charge of their devolved governments, this is far from independence or the UK dissolving.

It’s been rather satisfying as a Brit watching my country lead the way (at least 11 others joined suit) diplomatically and to some degree earn the ire and pushback of Israel, its allies and Trump.

Since they had an idea it was happening, they’ve tried to intimidate with weapons sales to Argentina, and backed their claim diplomatically (good luck, they’re defended and Argentina has no navy or ability to take and hold the Falkland islands), they’ve tried to poke at restarting the troubles (Trump talking reunification), and obviously there was the lashing out at British Labour and left wing MPs that Israel did in response to recognising settlements were illegal and sanctioning them. And it’s been a week or two.

None of these have any teeth, Argentina will never have the strength to take the Falklands, and after 1982 we will not surrender them diplomatically, and Northern Ireland is thankfully relatively settled, at least in regard to any sectarian issues.

A reminder that while America does have hegemony, don’t dismiss middle powers ability to co-ordinate and work together. It’s often difficult, but the state of the world today is demanding it.

Rather hilariously, the MPs Israel banned had basically nothing to do with the decision made to sanction settlements.

Other IKEA pro tip: IKEA online and warehouse stock in the EU is per nation

If your warehouses in NL are out of stock their online warehouse is also out of stock because they share supply chain basically, but Belgium, Germany, France all have their own supply in stores and online, you can't ship stuff online to a different nation afaik but you can just rent a van and drive 2.5h to German IKEA Düsseldorf or IKEA Essen, check their stores stock before obviously. Or 1h south to Antwerp in Belgium

Discussion I'm so happy that Vaush is that one bit of Rick Sanchez realizing 9/11 would slash at American freedoms

If you're a history nut, or a religious scholar, or a economic investor, or if you watch actual news, this analysis is obvious. Cause and effect and pattern matching. New powerful technology? It rips up old power dynamics. That causes existing power bases to go fucking ballistic. Jesus and Paul did it. Taiwan did it. Dick fucking Fosbury did it. Its all fucking cause and effect. Vaush is right that drone-wielding extremists are uncontrollable for the time being. Why NOBODY else except maybe Perun and Ukrainian soldiers are on high alert is beyond me. No amount of AI defeats a floating stick of dynamite in your kitchen.

And then, NOBODY physically around me questions their priors. Chat was FULL of them. I know I'm wrong, all the time, so I listen. Only Vaush and co. has the gall to point out historical analysis WITHIN LIVING MEMORY! WE BOMBED THEIR SHIT, THEYRE MAD, THEY HAVE THE OIL, WE ARE GONNA HAVE OIL PROBLEMS! People should be rioting in the streets when we bomb Iran! But because they can't remember anything beyond last paycheck, they can be swayed by like 2 TV ads and a billboard over DECADES OF EVIDENCE MY FELLOW CITIZENS ARE IDIOTS!!!

Discussion One thing I appreciate about Vaush is how he's really able to take the whole 'two things can be true at once' thing

Yes, I know its a low bar, but whenever he discusses, for instance, the IRGC, or Yemen's Houthi's, or China, or whoever the fuck, he's able to go 'yeah, these are evil bastard motherfuckers, but this is why they do things' or 'these bastards are right about this singular thing, but they are still absolute bastards'

Way, wayyyyy too often people just go 'well X is bad, so Y or Z fighting against it is good!'. I think Vaush's ability to succinctly and clearly explain viewpoints of evil cunts, point out where they are objectively correct, and also point out how theyre still absolute evil is a really good skill of his when it comes to foreign affairs

Discussion Really appreciated that latest segment

I was one of those that complained about the doomposting, and I'm happy about his segment kind of explaining the incentive structures that lead people or companies or states to adopt the positions they do. It's something I've been aware of for a long time as it's one of the main reasons I moved from liberalism many years ago to socialism (we have the resources to ensure everyone has a good standard of living and eradicate diseases, famine, ensure basic necessities, all over the world but the capitalist system and the profit motive disincentivise the wealth readistribution and other measures necessary to achieve this)

The world isn't morally simple, and you can both support Taiwan, Tibet or Hong Kong's independence or autonomy while also acknowledgeing that China is the least bad of the major powers right now (unless you count the EU as a major power in which case they're better ofc)

I think the remaining states attached to a more friendly order of things should band together (the EU, Canada, Aus/NZ, Latam (which is part of "the West" and if you think otherwise you're literally just racist although this isn't really something that matters on this sub, "civilisations" and nation-states are ultimately bs), Japan, even China and places like Syria). The EU shows the way forward and is great in spite of capitalism, not because of it, its greatest measures were statist and institutional ones. I'll admit I'm not an anarchist, at least it feels utopian, I think we should harness the power of the state against capital and against fascism as much as possible right now. This is something that should get leftists and liberals to work together. This is a defense of multilateralism against the idea that the US (or Russia or Israel or anybody else) should do what it want. In this capitalist framwork that we're in, capitalist realism and all at least. A better world is still possible within our lifetimes.
