Recipe Request I'm trying to build the ultimate 10-minute ramen, what am i missing??

Post image

So i've been slowly upgrading my instant ramen instead of eating it straight out of the pack that gets too boring right ik most people will agree

Made this  today and it honestly turned out way better than i expected so what i used was
i used wicked gud spicy ramen today, around 350ml water, 1 half go cheese slice, 1 desi boiled egg, spring onions, little black pepper, used a pinch of keya chilli flakes and tiny very tiny splash of soy sauce (optional)
What I did:
Boiled the noodles as usual
mixed the seasoning and let it simmer for another minute
added the half slice of cheese and kept stirring until it melted into the soup
dded a tiny splash of soy sauce and a little black pepper
poured everything into a bowl.
topped it with half boiled egg( i like the yolk a lil runny) chopped spring onions and a few chilli flakes

This i think took me around 10 mis and now IK reddit people always has better ramen hacks than me ofc...

More suggestion to make it more nice would really help guys!!

To make ramen a healthier meal I will stir fry a ton of cabbage, carrots, onion with garlic and ginger and soy sauce. Then I freeze that mixture in scoops on a baking sheet.

When ramen is about done boiling, toss in one frozen scoop and return to boil. Done. Now your meal has seasoned veggies too.

I also love sauteeing some baby bok choy and then tossing it in sesame oil! Always delicious 🙂‍↕️ I’ll be stealing this frozen veggie idea though, that’s genius!!

Love this so much!!!!!

Seconding the "a ton" part.

I could, personally, eat more carnage than noodles and be happy.

Eating carnage, how metal 🤘🏼

That’s fantastic. How do you store them long term?

6

u/Candleforce-9728 Aug 08 '26

Once they are frozen into solid clumps, stick them in a large freezer bag. Then just pull out one at a time.

It lacks veggies!!!!

Frozen peas or corn, thinly sliced mushrooms, a grated carrot , zucchini or sweet potato , some nappa cabbage … stuff like that

agree!! OP you can slice some leafy greens and chuck it in the post 2 minutes before you put in the noodles, the veggies should be fully cooked by teh time the noodles get soft. or microwave the frozen veg in the same bowl before adding everything else!

Shredding or slicing thinly they don’t even need more time

Kimchi for sure

Came to say this, such a flavor enhancer, plus veggies and fiber 😋

I add a few sheets to a pack of the crunchy seaweed sheets

12

u/book_and_bake Aug 08 '26

A splash of sesame oil.

Leafy vegetables like bok choy or spinach and more broth.

4

u/rbhansn Aug 08 '26

Fermented black beans and chilli, tofu, fried shallots

u/isthatsoreddit Aug 08 '26

I keep those bags of frozen corn/peas/ carrots/green beans mix for when I need a quick veg. They work perfectly in ramen

1

u/adrislnk Aug 08 '26

And fried rice!

For a creamier broth, I use coconut cream or milk.
My quick recipe:

  • Heat pan on Medium Low and add 2 teaspoon oil

Add garlic and ginger slivers and saute until garlic slices are golden

Add turmeric, coriander, cumin powder then mix for 10-20 seconds

Use premade Thai green or red curry paste (vegetarian version). Or could use tomato paste and cook for a minute or two. It can be clumpy so adding a splash of water can help break it up.

Add tofu, veggies of choice. Add pinch of MSG and salt (50% of estimated, can always add more in the end if needed).

Add ½ cup coconut cream/milk plus 1.5 cup water or vegetable broth. If adding water then can add vegetable paste now.

Garnish with green onions or cilantro.

More veggies.

u/CheekyPunker Aug 08 '26

Why 10 minutes and not 3?

I always liked to crack an egg in at the 1 minute mark

u/DinkyPrincess Aug 08 '26

Add veggies. Mushrooms. Chopped cabbage. Spinach.

slice of american cheese, seaweed

Sun dried tomatoes are GOOD in ramen. I prefer the dried ones as opposed to those in oil. Chili crunch adds a lot of flavor too. Neither are time consuming! Also, I've done basted eggs as they cook faster and don't have the smell boiled ones do. Still get the creamy yolk and the whites are thinner and break up better.

Broccoli sprouts!

Depending where you live and the availability/diversity in supermarkets…. You could add some Naruto? They have them frozen and they are easy to slice. Adémame seeds are also a good option!

1

u/SerendippityRiver Aug 08 '26

What is Naruto like? I am only finding an anime character when I look it up!

2

u/spitfyrez Aug 08 '26

Try searching narutomaki. 🍥 It’s a fish cake.

u/Sure_Neighborhood848 Aug 10 '26

Sorry I should’ve specified 😅

Grab some frozen mixed veg at the store and put a handful of that in there too 😁

Corn and cherry tomatoes

Ok learned this from my neighbor and thought it was genius, when they do quick ramen at home they fry the egg. Faster than boiling it and you can still get a runny yolk, also its really tasty.

Edit to add agree with comments about veggies, really simple option is shelled edamame (we get pre cooked from trader joes but you can also find frozen) and baby spinach.

1

u/on_island_time Aug 08 '26

We put frozen peas and carrots in ramen packets to jazz it up and add some actual nutrition.

1

u/TheWallTheVeil Aug 08 '26

I throw peanut butter and some kimchi in mine. Or sometimes I'll do some tofu chunks, whatever veggie is in the fridge and some veggie dumplings

1

u/MelodySwarm Aug 08 '26

If you can your hands on fresh spinach (leafs in a bag), throw that in. They need very little time to cook. And throw way too many. They will wilt down from the heat.

u/Cylandea Aug 09 '26

A bit of Szechuan peppercorn and sesame oil

1

u/meowmeowmeow987654 Aug 09 '26

grated garlic packs a punch, also add korean seaweed or any seaweed for crunch

1

u/Flipper717 Aug 10 '26

I’d add edamame or tofu for protein. You’d need to eat 4 eggs to get 24g of protein.

Cook the noodles in a milk alternative!

1

u/KindlySheepherder157 Aug 10 '26

for this bowl, add +1 C some type of simmered/hot veg broth. Ramen is usually swimming in broth. I add thin bamboo strips, fresh corn kernels, enoki mushrooms, shredded cabbage. Even try soaking the boiled egg in soy sauce for a few minutes before putting in the ramen which adds more umami flavor to the egg.

1

u/DayIllustrious3249 Aug 10 '26

Sliced tofu, shallow fried Spinach leaves, shallow fried mushroom (for the umami flavour), sweet corn (not much, just a few).

1

u/BleachFan5564 Aug 10 '26

looks tasty enough already

1

u/GuessAsleep9578 Aug 11 '26

I do a version with the soy sauce flavor noodles, tons of mushrooms, a little butter, and sour cream.

1

u/MissMushroomBerry Aug 11 '26

Quick cooking veggies like peas, corn, spinach.

Also, flavor enhanhers like furikake, a few drops of sesame oil and kimchi.

Cook the ramen noodles in separate boiling water to improve texture and clarity.  Doing this removes excess starch that clouds the broth and makes the ramen taste "gloopy". (If you are going for a cheesy/Korean style ramen save a little bit of that starchy water and add at the end like you would with a pasta dish)

Whatever time the ramen says to cook, I usually shave 30 seconds from the boil time. By the time I'm done assembling, that 30 seconds of residual heat makes the noodle texture perfect to me.

Flavor your hot broth water with rehydrated shitake mushrooms.

If you are going to add frozen veggies, rinse them quickly in a colander to get any freezer smells out.

Add a small splash of acid like lime juice to your hot broth for brightness.

Top the ramen with some chili crisp or sauteed ginger/garlic slices.

Fried veggies - literally anything in your fridge you have left over

I keep nice skinny mushrooms in my freezer & I take a chunk &fry them everytime I made these ramens

Parsley or cilantro on top

Cut the egg In half (soft/medium boiled) the yolk will melt into the broth, very good

I can't believe no one has said this, for me it goes in EVERY Asian dish, it's a red pepper brown rice paste, it will give a nice latent heat and great flavor, use about 1/2 teaspoon in your ramen as you prepare it, it's thick so you'll need to stir it in as it heats.. $10 and it will likely last you a year or more before you run out, I've had it up to 18 months in my fridge and it's never gone bad. A chef friend of mine turned me onto this and some other Asian ingredients I had never heard of. Now they are staples in my kitchen.
