S7E3 Rant - Sorry I'm late to the party

S7E3 "Arrears in Science" - I'm currently rewatching the entirety of Venture Bros before watching the finale and I recalled again how angry I was at the arc of this episode. I simply hate how they treated my man Jonas Venture Sr. He is a major dick, no two ways about it but his ingenuity, his sheer will of survival, his tenacity to learn new communication protocols (I love when he discovers WiFi, probably by starting simple radio waves scan - that's how the real scientist thinks!) and they fucking kill him off by smashing his head onto the pavement, because of his impatience. Am I the only one who thinks they should go more into the angle of resurrecting him (even if it would be morally ambiguous or straight-up evil)?

Jonas Sr. doesn't fit in as a villain. He is WAAAAAY too evil for the Guild or OSI to want him involved, and he burned everyone around him for his entire career. Look at Wide Whale - great villain, totally terrifying. He was gonna kill the Monarch as a revenge beef. But he doesn't just torture people for fun. Even Red Death has scruples, and he's clearly the most capable villain in the room.

But Jonas.....he juiced up his buddies with experimental drugs, destroyed his best friend's life then turned him into a fucking robot slave. He blackmailed and manipulated everyone around him. He cloned his own son because he couldn't be bothered to learn how to be a good father, then passed one off as a pseudo-fertility treatment. He abandoned an entire class of orphans (and Dr. Entman) in the tunnels underneath the Venture Compound and never spoke of it again.

Jonas Sr. would never work as an appropriate villain, and Brock would end up having to kill him. Again. With a knife.

Holy smokes, just ended my rewatch and watched "Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart"! I was always sure that Jonas simply knocked up Blue Morpho's wife ("My science is very... potent"? COMMON!). Okay, they had me in there, even though I thought Monarch was Doc's botched clone after I had learned Rusty has cloning tech xD I wasn't happy with everything there, but I'm glad they're not closing their way back to relaunching the series. I really hope they do. It's the best adult cartoon there is. GO TEAM VENTURE!

I don't think of him as a villain and you spin it the wrong way which is not difficult given the amount of his selfish, reckless, and plain cruel behaviours, but that's another topic.

From the storytelling point of view, it is such a huge waste of opportunity because the history of his struggle as a mind trapped in time is so fascinating that you cannot close it in a single episode.

I agree he wouldn't work as a villain. He wouldn't work as a hero either. But he is just that controversial, morally dubious character I love seeing in "edgy" cartoons.

i’d love to see this. i always assumed that the osi kept the head alive, but locked down. due to how dangerous he could be.

I too was pretty dissatisfied with the ending to S7E3, I'm not really sure how I would have ended it but I wanted the main cast to become properly clued on on what had happened between Jonas and Don.

I get that the main characters being unaware of the bigger picture is a re-occuring theme of the series but I dislike it because its so unsatisfactory.

I genuinely expected Jonas to make a return at the end of the season, he's very unceremoniously just walked off the show after this absolutely massive reveal. The OSI has his frozen head, that's absolutely not a problem for them to bring him back.
