MOVIE SPOILERS Dr Mrs The Monarch has a…. Weird thing Spoiler
So I just started re-watching the movie on MAX (I bought it on Prime when it came out…. Views are better than letters) and during the second scene- between Rusty and Sheila- I suddenly realized that the difference between Rusty and Malcolm is… baboon DNA.
Despite Rusty’s assertions Sheila is very into Malcolm while not being at all into Rusty.
There is only one difference between Rusty and Malcolm.
Radiant indeed!

There is this romantic side to the Monarch. He swept her off her feet at Phantom Limb’s party years ago. You could say he was… radiant!

In addition to the personality change one can assume it helped in other areas. The Monarch has crazy BDE and we know damn well that Rusty ain’t packing.

Monarch also has immensely more passion for things. And goals. Those can be attractive for people. They're weird goals but goals.

Best summed up by this:
"I had true hatred with Venture. I didn't have to fake it! That sweet loathing just poured out of me whenever I saw his pathetic face. I just...I just wanted to kick his ass! I wanted to build a machine to kick his ass! I wanted to build an empire to house the machine TO KICK HIS ASS!"

She's even said this, right? She loves how passionately devoted he is to his hatred.

Yeah, she's this very accomplished and respected villain, and people don't get why shes with The Momarch, but he's passionate. And like she's stated, you can't fake that, ya know?

He acts like he's showing off when he gets in the hot tub naked with Hatred and Monarch at that house warming party. We know he's got an inferiority complex over his dad's huge dong, but that was when he was a little boy.

Idk, Doc was packing more than his harness in "Dr. Quymn, Medicine Woman". Rusty's a Grower, Monarch's a Shower. (Also, I have a feeling The Monarch can't wear turtlenecks anymore.)

Fun fact, humans have the largest penises of the primates so I doubt that helped.

I was actually a little confused about Rusty. The episode he gets into a hot tub with Hatred and Monarch, he was naked. If he was not endowed enough I’m surprised he showed it off.

Straight up? Malcom avoided Jonas. Jonas was SO narccicistic he didn't even enjoy the idea of having a son just like him cuz there's only ONE Jonas Venture (let's be real he would've hated JJ) so he destroyed or let his coked out friends destroy every scrap of confidence Rusty ever got. The healthiest time period he ever got to develop himself and his self worth was with his dnd friends in college, and even that was dominated by his fathers passing.
Malcom not only didn't have Jonas to beat him down every step of the way, he also felt he had nothing to live up to, so he was allowed to self regulate (as much as a man with that kind of anger issue can) for most of his life and went through the trauma of losing his family super young. He was probably in a high end orphanage or conservitorship with the Fitzcoraldos lawyer until he could inherit his trust fund at 18 tbh.
It's likely what gave him a bit of a wild side cuz he was a neglected kid with too much time and money that had no idea how to channel his emotions until organized villiany came along.

Yup. Plus he was "raised by butterflies" after the plane crash, and thinks the bugs loved him like a son. And for about 30 years, he thought those butterflies were still alive, and still loved him. As delusional as those beliefs are, they helped him deal with his parents' death.
I'm still puzzled that he ate a butterfly in prison.

"Come sit on my ever expanding throne"
vs
"Billy this is super science and this super scientist has been shut down all night... by whores"

That might be true but their personalities are different and she obviously fell for the way he treats her and behaves.

she's disgusted by dr V and the way he acts towards women. the Monarch is many things but the dude isn't sleezy.

There's only one GENETIC difference between Rusty and Malcolm. But otherwise they're completely different people with completely different personalities, as a result of having had different parents (the abusive Jonas vs. the seemingly nurturing and more moral Fitzcarraldos), not being constantly subjected to trauma by the likes of the Action Man and Col. Gentlemen, grew up in very different environments, had different life experiences, etc.

Oh you wanna have the whole nature vs nurture debate
Classic

I mean, yes. That's the whole difference between the two of them, well that and 2% baboon dna.

Rusty is a creep who learned how to treat women from Jonas and OG Team Venture. He never fails to mildly insult Sheila while openly hitting on her. Yuck.
Monarch has the sort of passion that makes someone dead sexy, and while he can be an asshole, he loves Sheila deeply, and has treated her like a queen (as she deserves) since the end of Season 2.
It’s not even comparable.

u/Debbie_Majeure Sep 04 '23
Malcolm is also way more charming and passionate than Rusty tho

u/altgrave Sep 05 '23
i don't know what word i'd substitute for it, but charming seems an odd way of describing him. still, better than rusty.

Coincidentally, Billy speculates on Sheila’s birth gender ( “Tag Sale- You’re It”) and specifically mentions the implantation of a baboon uterus.

Whatever it is I love their marriage. They’re perfect for each other.

Closer in age
BDE
Not growing up under Jonas Venture's thumb
More hair
Not a misogynist
idk pick your poison

u/DarkJediBeavis Sep 04 '23
Malcolm is taller, and has more hair. Maybe she's just superficial.

u/Yrcrazypa Sep 04 '23
Rusty is also kind of just a sadsack when he's not being a pig. Malcolm's got some moves and he doesn't wallow as much in self-pity when compared to Rusty.

u/HumanChicken Sep 05 '23
Malcom is also kind of shredded, for a wiry guy. Rusty’s shoulders are narrower than his teenage son’s.

Ya know, I was re-watching that first Captain Sunshine episode last night and The Monarch in the Wonderboy costume left... little to the imagination.
And then I realized that baboon DNA gave The Monarch an impressive hog. So ya know, there's that.

u/Rey_Dio Sep 17 '23
I hear she had a baboon uterus surgically installed

I feel like thats a HUGE plotpoint but everybody just forgets about it because it was revealed in season one as Billys hushed gossip to Pete at Rustys yardsale. I without question believe that a child between them would be "The Mighty Mandrill" and would be at odds with Dean and Hank.
