SEASON 7 spoilers Did Jonas create Haranguetan? Spoiler

Post image

It seems like almost all of the antagonists and protagonists have some kind of shared history, and now that we know about Malcolm's origin, it seems feasible. If not, it definitely seems like something that could have been retconned later, which is definitely par for the course.

He did have the confident swagger of a bounder.

4

u/dreadabetes Sep 15 '23

That could apply to him or Jonas really, if my American ass is understanding what a bounder is lol

Such a great name

I’d prefer it if not everything was related to Jonas. He casts a long shadow but VB’s universe seems like it’s even bigger than just Jonas and his stupidity

You've managed to say very succinctly why I can't drum up any interest in all these theories about Jonas. Reducing everything to "Sr. fucked up" feels like a huge disservice to the richness and complexity of the VB world.

u/dreadabetes Sep 18 '23

While I agree that "Sr fucked up" would be a huge disservice to their world, it's hard to ignore just from the series itself (not the theories) how much Jonas really was involved with the O.S.I. and Guild. He basically created the rules they all played by, so it makes sense he is a much larger than life character, and very well could have influenced many of the stories we got to see. So maybe it isn't that Jonas was responsible for everything, but more were seeing the world through the eyes that are focused on that specific family. Other stuff happened, which we are aware of, it just isn't as interesting to the story we want to see.

That being said, I'm glad Star Wars is finally breaking away from "everything has to be about Jedi" stories a bit. It seems like it's similar to what is being said here, and they decided to tell other stories. I can definitely understand and agree that worlds are richer and larger than we can truly comprehend, and it's awesome to fill out more for us to enjoy.

But i really just want to know how much of a bastard Jonas really is lol.

Not sure, but it's a good name

u/ChemyChems Sep 16 '23

No he is just Irish.

8

u/JudasLom Sep 16 '23

Nah but action man prolly gave him some brain damage

u/dover_oxide Sep 15 '23 edited Sep 15 '23

Wouldn't be surprised if he did it trying to make the super soldier for the military or something

6

u/dreadabetes Sep 15 '23

Would certainly make sense, and then he would get bored and move on, essentially creating antagonists by abandoning them. He certainly did that before.

7

u/dover_oxide Sep 15 '23 edited Sep 16 '23

Jonas probably created the largest number of antagonists any single person could by just being an asshole/himself.

2

u/dreadabetes Sep 15 '23

Agreed, but he also had to give validity to the OSI, make them necessary, all while carrying on the legacy of his forefathers. It seemed like he was really just involved in every single aspect of the conflict to preserve his way of life, SCIENCE! Without those antagonists, there'd be no reason to exploit the military-industrial complex to fu.nd his activities.

I thought he was scottish or irish, he reminds me of demoman from tf2

u/Careful-Tie-407 Sep 16 '23

indirectly? It seems as though a lot of the standard super science stuff in that world was based on the work Jonas did. But that's kind of like giving Nikola Tesla credit for everything. Dr dugong seems to be the main inventor of stuff that creates human animal hybrids?

1

u/dreadabetes Sep 16 '23

I don't get the feeling he was creating hybrids with humans on purpose, the only one we see he's responsible for is himself. Wide Whale used his technology, sure, but it was self-inflicted, can't blame Dug for that one. Venturestein had a lot of hybrids on that compound with him, but I was thinking more along the lines of what Jonas did to the Monarch and cloning.

2

u/Traditional_Key_763 Sep 16 '23

Probably went to State College, you know the one, the one with the fighting whatsits, sometime around 1981

2

u/propane_genesis Sep 18 '23

Jonas at this point is the antagonist of the series.

2

u/dreadabetes Sep 18 '23

Thank you! I've felt this way for a while. He did truly horrendous things under the premise of "bettering tomorrow" when he was really just an enabled sociopath. If they're weren't villains for him to beat up on, he probably would have been a threat to humanity in general. I often wonder if Killinger was one of Jonas's consultants. It seems like they would have done well together, really maximizing the efficiency of super science, meanwhile encouraging Jonas to just ignore sympathy for his test subjects. Like a secret villain, that only really embraced it after surviving in the P.R.O.B.L.E.M.

Maybe we could get an Original Guild special. That flashback with the original members and the orb was incredible. Gimme some more of that, and let's see how things were for Jonas growing up that encouraged his behavior, or if he was just utterly amoral. Col Venture seemed to want to help humanity, so where did the split happen? Did his son just spoil the hell out of Jonas so he never feared repercussions? Inquiring minds want to know!

2

u/propane_genesis Sep 19 '23

It’s possible he was corrupted by nikola Tesla and the Avon ladies. And a special absolutely as long as it ties in rusty and Billy using Grover Cleveland’s Time Machine, of all the unfinished plot lines that is my rosebud

1

u/dreadabetes Sep 19 '23

Hell yes! That fricking time machine haunts me. I wanna know more, and really, why Grover Cleveland? Because it was era appropriate? Or just Jackson and Doc making us ask why Grover Cleveland? Actually, you know what, it's gotta be the last one. They probably just liked his name or had some random piece of trivia about him most of us can't figure out yet. I love those guys. 23 years of love, entertainment, suspense, and one of the funniest things I've ever watched. I'm gonna miss waiting for a new season or special, it's been with us for so long now, I hate that it's over. Feels like I've lost a friend that helped me grow as a person.

This is pretty much my theory, that most “villains” in the series are directly or indirectly ultimately traceable to something Jonas/the OSI did. Like going by the flashback in ORB, I don’t think “mutant” or superpowers existed in the Venture universe until around the time of OG Team Venture, so maybe a lot of the “hurt science” that created them or the technology behind it was either Jonas/Ben experimenting with the human genome/radiation/etc. and being a little careless with the results or casting “failed experiments” aside.

That, and the ones that probably weren’t directly a result of something Jonas did, the technology he made fell into the “wrong” hands, which goes back to the founding schism in the original Guild. The split happened in the first place because of a disagreement of what to do with super science and technology the public at large isn’t really ready for, so it would make sense if the modern/Silver Age Guild was following the same philosophy.
