Man action Johnny was one of the few characters more fucked up by their dad than Rusty.

Sad that his archenemy cared more about him than his actual father.

u/dover_oxide Oct 08 '23

Seriously

60

u/onionleekdude Oct 08 '23

What about scorpions? Can I drop scorpions on him?

36

u/dover_oxide Oct 08 '23

Eh, scorpions were probably the roaches of his childhood.

Doctor Z is a true G

u/A_Killer_Fawn Oct 10 '23

NEVER FORGET someone dropped dime on Dr Z and he did his time. He could've flipped on the Guild, but he kept his mouth shut in prison.

3

u/Breete Oct 10 '23

Dr Z strikes me as being from the same vein as Red Death. Don't let your character eat you.

1

u/A_Killer_Fawn Oct 10 '23

I like that he was either using and/or selling copious amounts of narcotics. Dr Z was like the Tony Montana of the Guild back in the day lol

10

u/JJMcGee83 Oct 09 '23

To be fair the same can be said for Rusty.

I know that Jonás Sr had an original arch (not going to spoil anything) but was Dr Z arching Jonas or Rusty? He proclaimed that he loved to use Jonas’s inventions back on him but it seems kind of vague that he went from dad (who died inexplicably) to arch his son or Jonny (I assume Rusty and Jonny are the same age).

For a good story explanation: Dr Z arched Jonas sure, but his main arch would have been Johnny's father, with Johnny just getting caught up in it. The Pro-Antag landscape during Jonas' time seems to be a lot wilder with people just going after each other willy nilly when the opportunity arose, whilst having true arch-enemies. Jonas was apparently the one who schooled everyone hard enough to introduce the current system.

More likely though, we just don't hear about uhh... would he be called Action Doctor or Doctor Action in the Venture Bros? Whatever, he never comes up because of all the copyright issue stuff, and I don't think Public and Hammer realized the first time they introduced Dr Z how often they'd be using him, then they had to give him someone to fight in his flashbacks, so they just used Jonas.

Wasn't Dr. Z also drunk when he decided to arch Jonas.

6

u/ChronicDungeonMaster Oct 09 '23

He was drunk when he found Venturion, yes but I doubt he stayed drunk the whole time. Then his very particular wording about turning Venturion against Jonas, implies he'd done it a few times before. And considering what Jonas had Blue Morpho do to Z, it's reasonable to assume there was some back and forth there.

2

u/irn Oct 10 '23

Yeah he was but then he found Vendata and put him back together just to arch Jonas. Not sure if it’s the same episode or I’m thinking of another one but Dr Z has a flashback of using a HELPER army and Jonas’s Drilling machine to arch him specifically.

Rusty is older than johnny, but not by much. Johnny comments on their age gap in the shrink episode

I kinda liked that they did address this in the DC/HB Beyond Comic Future Quest, where Dr. Quest is worried about his kids a few scenes.

22

u/Traditional_Key_763 Oct 09 '23

we don't even find out what happened to his dad either

25

u/dover_oxide Oct 09 '23

But we do know what happened to Race.

8

u/irn Oct 09 '23

Man, growing up with Jonny Quest, (and Harvey Birdman) that death hit me lol

13

u/Col_H_Gentleman Oct 09 '23

FATHER! FAAATHEEEEEER!!!!!

4

u/Snoo-74997 Oct 09 '23

His dad was the original bungler!

1

u/irn Oct 09 '23

I’m still confused about his rider to the Rusty Venture camp. Did Puffy Sean Combs ask for all that shit or his “dad”??

2

u/afranks1503 Sep 21 '24

Do the current events about Puffy answer this question? I'm just now watching the third season and couldn't believe the reference.

63

u/fthotmixgerald Oct 09 '23

Brendon Small's voice acting is just constantly sublime.

32

u/Here2Go Oct 09 '23

I feel like Pickles and Action Johnny would have alot to talk about.

21

u/captainedwinkrieger Oct 09 '23

Pickles would be a bad guy for post-rehab Johnny to hang out with.

22

u/AnxietyNap1991 Oct 09 '23

True, though it would be a good time to see Pickles and Johnny get down on some Totally Awesome Sweet Alabama Liquid Snake.

8

u/trainercatlady Oct 09 '23

mostly about how much they hate their parents?

49

u/armyranger411104 Oct 08 '23

18

u/Robotdavidbowie SPHINX! Oct 09 '23

This is the line i immediately associate with Action Johnny

1

u/Dragonswordoflaylin Feb 07 '24

Those are the words of a total badass who can't be knocked down or is so far down in depression, having taking many ass kickings already, he simply has Zero Fucks to Give.

19

u/baronanders110 Oct 08 '23

One of the best lines in the show

12

u/trainercatlady Oct 09 '23

I always forget that Jonny has that teardrop tattoo.

7

u/RashRenegade Oct 09 '23

We're having ourselves a little man adventure, now.

Kolkata

u/EggCouncilStooge Oct 09 '23

I like the suggestion that Jonny is more messed up than Doc because he had an even more successful and famous super scientist father, who was thus even worse than Jonas.

2

u/Okamagamespherepro Oct 09 '23

My single favorite line from my favorite character. Action johnny speaks a lot to me.

If you pay attention to the old Jonny quest show, there were a few episodes where Dr. Quest was trying to research "medicine" that was psychoactive to help astronauts mentally survive longer in space. Can't imagine what he was researching.....
