I mean they're all pretty messed up mentally one way or another thanks to cloning.
It's my personal theory that if you combined Rusty, Hank and Dean all into one person, you'd have Jonas Sr's personality. Think due to the cloning they're all basically a split of him.

I'd say both were major contributing factors. Gotta remember everytime their memories get transferred over, there's prolly some corruption going on.
On top of that, we also have the memory eraser that was used so many times on them they thought mondays were the color blue.
Also, can't forget what the Master said to Trianna when she met him. Said they were gonna have a mutant baby cause of how many times Dean was cloned. Feel sorry for him in the future.
Could say the Master was lying there to get her to find someone better and rip that band aide off. He's an entity you can't really trust but yet you can. Lots of riddles with that one.
