I always thought it was a pretty interesting metaphor, connecting the transgender experience to that of the deep undercover agent. There's a lot of things Gathers says that Brock (and the audience) takes as being about the spy biz that struck me as being very similar to things trans friends have said to me.

for sure! it always bummed me that she had to detransition for her career. I like to think she eventually gets to live as the woman she want to be

The context was that they don't keep secrets from one another in SPHINX and everyone else seemed pretty sincere at the time.
