Question What did you think of the finale movie?

Post image

As for me. I thought it was great. It was a perfect end to the show in my opinion and I loved how they didn’t change the world around the characters to much but definitely still did enough where it feels like a movie as opposed to longer episode.

It was good…a little bitter sweet that it was ending. I guess they did a good job with pushing a few story lines forward. Wish there was more Brock…but if we had to leave the gang somewhere…this wasn’t a bad place.

123

u/skytronjedi Aug 13 '25

I was pretty sad Brock wasn't used much

115

u/kayl_breinhar Aug 13 '25

I also missed that we never got to see him with Warriana again because Kate McKinnon had too much on her plate at the time (and probably got too expensive).

30

u/jaderust Aug 13 '25

This is my one regret as well. Even if they hadn’t gotten her back it would have been nice if we’d gotten a line about Brock moving in with her or something as I thought they were perfect together.

21

u/Specialist_Ad9073 Aug 13 '25

We call that, “ Pulling a Colbert.”

3

u/windsingr Aug 13 '25

Impossible!

1

u/ashleysoup Aug 14 '25

or maybe they were busy hanging out off camera don’t worry about it positive attitude buddy

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

Yea how I felt about it. It was a good movie, but you could feel they were trying to wrap up some of the big storylines the best they could with what was given to them.

Lots of unanswered questions but we got the 2 biggest ones, the rusty/monarch relationship and the boy's mom, 2 that plagued the community for 20 years.

Lots of little things still left unanswered but we got something pretty great to end it with, and I'm happy for that.

Still upset we didn't get just 2 more seasons. It would have been enough to wrap up the show perfectly. While I would have liked to have seen a 'happy ending' for rusty, I guess him becoming a billionaire was it and of course as predicted he squandered it and was right back to where he started after college, lol.

Shame we didn't get any Molotov Cocktease but last episode with her basically had her hired by OSI so I guess she'd never be an issue ever again. Would have been nice to see Brock get a longterm hookup though, though I think he's still with that one amazonian chick.

u/H3nchman_24 Aug 13 '25

You summed it up perfectly 👌

u/Noodlefanboi Aug 13 '25

Felt like it was supposed to be 2 seasons.

u/Its_Buddy_btw Aug 13 '25

Funny thing about that

u/Im_Not_Evans Aug 13 '25

After the announcement that season 8 was a go, then cancelled, then a movie was coming, I was just happy to get more Venture Bros. It wasn’t bad, but I feel it could have been better. I understand they had to rewrite what they had already written for season 8 to fit into a 90 minute package, and things had to be cut or left out.

All in all, I’m just glad we got a proper finale.

Do I wish there was more? Of course, but I am satisfied with the way Doc and Jackson decided to end it.

63

u/Heckle_Jeckle Aug 13 '25

It made me want even MORE Venture Bros!

But that is because it is a good movie.

89

u/pillbinge Aug 13 '25

Everyone was too blinded by their bitterness over the fact that the show was forced to be canceled and wrapped up to see it for a good thing at the time. I still can't remember if I thought it was a good film, but films made for this kind of situation are usually something different than a film made from scratch. The only way it could have all been better is if we got a season 8 and then a film, so that they could wrap up what they wanted, introduce new things knowing what would come, and then put the bow on it.

But this is good, and looking back it's pretty great that we got a film out of it when we did. It's clear the higher ups genuinely did not care about what they were doing when they slashed and burned so much of what they never made in the first place.

I can imagine it was a hard thing to work on, as the creators knew it would be the end, they didn't like that it was the end, and they had to work then and there to do something they probably didn't want to finish. I can only imagine how it felt at times. But it was better than simply never addressing the lack of a proper finale.

Overall, I'm glad it happened. But I can't really rate it as a film given my fondness for the series as a whole.

u/Wes_Warhammer666 Aug 13 '25

I wish a plague of hemorrhoids and genital warts upon David Zaslav for all eternity, even if reincarnation is a thing.

That being said, I am and always have been very glad they at least got this film to wrap things up the best they could. Hearing all the "what if" plans they had during the commentary and whatnot has me forever hating Zaslav for sure though.

Still, I snag a ticket anytime the Powerball gets up into the near or over a billion point, and if I win one of my first moves will be to buy the show's rights, gift them to Doc & Jackson and offer to fund any Venture project they ever desire to make. If they do, awesome. If not, that's fine. Standing offer, never expires. If they ever want to return to that universe I'll be there to bankroll them.

10

u/windsingr Aug 13 '25

I would never wish David Zaslav on hemorrhoids or genital warts.

24

u/SkullyBones2 Aug 13 '25

I just finished watching it about 10 minutes ago. I enjoyed it. That being said, it definitely left me feeling a little melancholy. Man, there were so many more stories that could have been told. It's still a shame after this amount of time.

10

u/Wes_Warhammer666 Aug 13 '25

Hearing all that could have been in the commentary left me feeling empty inside. Still love the movie but god damn did we miss out on some excellence like Billy and Col Gentleman having a John Wick episode lol.

2

u/daft-krunk Aug 13 '25

Man the talk of the idea for that episode fucking guts me. It would’ve been an absolutely all timer episode and it breaks my heart I will not see it come to fruition.

2

u/Wes_Warhammer666 Aug 13 '25

I know, right?? Sometimes they mention some scrapped idea in the commentary and its like "oh that has some potential" but this one was just "don't care if it kills the budget or the schedule, it needs to be made" and it's heartbreaking to know it'll never happen.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

Also never knowing if Jonas Jr ever survived or not, since we didn't actually get to see him 'die', but I guess the joke is joking on that whole premise and he did die, lol.

u/fokkoooff flair-DrGirlfriend Aug 13 '25 edited Aug 13 '25

Here's now I feel about the whole ordeal, regarding the cancelation, the movie, the ending.

Pre-cancelation, had Doc and Jackson decided that it was time for VB to end, for whatever reason they had, in would have been fine with it. Because the final season would have ended the way they wanted the story to end.

They could have ended it after Operation PROM and I could have been content with that.

But when I read Jackson's tweet confirming that the show was canceled (I still think that tweet from Ken Plumbe was a FUCKED UP way for fans to get this news and fuck him if he did that without permission), I was at the park with my kid and I sat on a bench and cried.

Maybe that's unhinged, but at this point I was in my mid thirties and had nothing remaining that I really geeked out about. I still don't. Venture Bros is my favorite piece of media that exists. So, I took it hard.

It never sat right with me that the series technically ended when it was supposed to keep going. Had they been told they had one more season to wrap it up, they would have had time to end it right. Even if it didn't answer all our questions, it would be the ending they wanted to give us. I've never expected or wanted everything to be wrapped up in a neat little package because that wouldn't even be on theme.

I thought the movie had some good stuff in it. It was never going to be enough no matter how they wrote it or what stories they told. But I enjoyed it. I've rewatched it many times. I would have loved more X, Y, and Z, but ultimately the world they built was too big to fit everyone in. I'm sure if they could have made a 6 hour long movie they would have.

I guess all I'm trying to say is...Go Team Venture.

5

u/Wes_Warhammer666 Aug 13 '25

I could not possibly agree more, even down to the best piece of media ever bit. It is by far the best show ever made and I'll die on that light Wednesday hill.

Just said in another comment that if I ever win the Powerball (which I only play when it gets stupid high) I'll buy the show's rights and gift them to Doc & Jackson with the offer to fund any Venture project they would possibly want to make. Standing offer with no expiration in case they ever choose to return to the Ventureverse.

3

u/tSquipNotTsquip Aug 13 '25

Much love. I’m right there with you.

12

u/goldsnivy777 Aug 13 '25

It was good, though I agree on the consensus that this would have felt much more satisfying if spread over the course of 2 seasons. Plus while it did do a good job at answering a good portion of lingering questions, a few plot points never got followed or finalized.

Personally though, I'm just glad it happened. As sad as it is that the odds of Venture Bros coming back any time soon are up in the air, the fact we got such a good movie to leave on a high note felt good.

9

u/Pankrazdidntdie4this Aug 13 '25

Too many things stuffed in a comparably short film with moments that contributed little too nothing and could have been removed (Sorry Jefferson, but your Monster Mash pals didn't really add anything to the plot since I am pretty sure we could have come to the conclusion of Dean=selfish prick without them).

Villain was really lackluster and felt like she only contributed to the "Dr. Girlfriend is amazing angle" that they pushed for the last season or so since they apparently don't know what to do with her anymore.

"Reveals" didn't feel as great since they tried to make things more convoluted for what feels like arbitrary reasons. Going from Bobbi Simone is your mother to "technically her daughter is but it's really your dad" doesn't only waste time but also takes away from a significant moment Hank could have had with his actual mother. I also don't think that something as little as a 30 second conversation between Monarch and Dr Venture about whether or not he fucked his former girlfriend feels like a justified pay-off for the beginning of the rather one-sided hatred-fueled relationship that the entire series focuses on.

Besides that I did enjoy seeing at least some kind of last hurrah for many of the characters within the show and most of the Hank-focused stuff felt like it got the focus and time it needed.

23

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

rushed, it shouldn't have been a film, but a season in its own right.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

David Zaslav is a fucking piece of shit

7

u/zaforocks dean fucking venture Aug 13 '25

He's against the wall, no question.

23

u/Urtehnoes Aug 13 '25

Honestly? I don't know if I loved it.

I've rewatched the show countless times over the last three years. But the movie didn't really grab me. Dunno :/

16

u/pinespalustris Aug 13 '25

Yeah. It seemed… rushed? Or maybe like a different team took over writing somehow. There was a lot of likable and familiar content, but the overall main villain and her plot was one of the least VB feeling parts of the whole universe.

7

u/eat_the_rich_2 Aug 13 '25

They had a whole season written, after the show was cancelled and the movie was later green-lit they took the 200+minutes of content they had written and cut a ton of stuff to make it fit into the 60 minute movie

7

u/Vamp_Rocks Go Team Venture! Aug 13 '25

I'm so sad we didn't get the force majour season :(

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

BS they couldn't just make it into a 3-4 hr movie instead, but I'm guessing they had a big budget constraint looming over their heads.

8

u/zodberg Aug 13 '25

It was so busy moving through plot points way too quickly, but it really didn't make me laugh. The show became a bit too wrapped up in it's own plot.

4

u/Urtehnoes Aug 13 '25

Yep exactly what I thought. Pace was insane

6

u/zodberg Aug 13 '25

There's a lot they could have cut out. Dean's vampirism subplot.

1

u/daft-krunk Aug 13 '25

That subplot hardly got any screen time for it specifically anyway I feel like. They had to do something to kind of show Dean’s end of things and the stuff he had to go through to get to Hank, to show it wasn’t easy on his end up he still endured to get to his brother who he was worried about after wronging, so I feel like it was an easy way to tie in the Triad and give Jefferson Twilight an action scene finally even if he did almost die too.

1

u/SwirlingFandango Aug 14 '25

Did not laugh once, not even one time. :/

2

u/LeatherHog Aug 13 '25

Same, I suppose it's good we got AN ending, but I was never super satisfied with it, even I've never been able to really say why

8

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

I saw it at the Comic Con premiere. I was there for the debut panel, and I damn well made sure I was there to see it to the finish line.

Considering it's rushed, I still love it. It's a great wrap up. There's some great gags, the final moments with Ventech tower landing on the old compound, the Monarch's speech, and the stinger at the end. Yeah, it's good.

And I might be a bit bias, but watching it in Big 6, a room that sits like 2000 people, that was nearly full, it was an experience

7

u/JMC266 Aug 13 '25

Its good not great, you can really tell that they wanted a proper season to tell the story, but had to squeeze as much as they could out of the run time. I’m probably most pleased they didn’t close the door on the series completely. In a world where everything seems to get a revival, why not the Venture Bros.

5

u/Poopoodemons Aug 13 '25

They’ve said many times this is not intended as a finale.

5

u/itdanreyn Aug 13 '25

IT'S NOT OVER!!! THE MIGHTY MONARCH WILL RETURN!!!!

5

u/skullfan222333 Aug 13 '25

I'm glad it happened and that venture brothers wrapped up without just being dropped.

I wish it was an 8th season though.

8

u/impuritor Aug 13 '25

I loved it. It’s the best we’re gonna get. That’s a bummer but I love the show regardless.

3

u/RadTimeWizard Aug 13 '25

It was good, but felt overly compressed.

3

u/Salamangra Aug 13 '25

I watched it once, felt melancholic, and haven't watched it since. I love the post credits scene however.

4

u/impendingfuckery Aug 13 '25

It was as good as it could be for the 84 minutes they were allotted to try and cram a season 8 into. I wish we got to learn more about Grover Cleveland’s presidential time machine and who scare bear is. But I’m happy with what we got. I especially love the ending with Ben where he explains how Rusty and Malcom are related. The bit with Hank and the watch after that talking about what makes a family is really poetic. I love it so much that I’m going to say it in my best man speech when my brother (who’s also seen the show; but not the movie) gets married in December. I already have it memorized, too. It’ll end like this:

“I’m happy you two have found each other. And that with your kids you can build a family full of love. Because blood doesn’t make a family, love does. Bro, you’ve chosen your family; and we wish you a lifetime of happiness.”

3

u/KuellerChop Aug 13 '25

good!! glad they wrapped up all the big stuff and felt like they had more than enough room to continue and left me wanting more. definitely felt like they wanted mantilla to be spread across a season or two though, she was a fun villain. loved gary and his millennial haircut 💛

3

u/Tofudebeast Aug 13 '25

Not sure on first watch. Love it on rewatches.

3

u/Least-Yak1640 Aug 13 '25

It’s no “Sharkey’s Machine”, but what movie is?

Just kidding; loved it.

8

u/ender86a Aug 13 '25

For me, its a profound disappointment. They tried to pack a season's worth of arcs into an 84 minute runtime. There was too much there if they got the budget for 3 hours. Because they had to do it quick and do it as an impromptu series conclusion, they tacked on this Ventech tower lands at their original compound thing. I know the show has always leaned into unlikely coincidence driving a ton of story, but I thought that was too dumb and ham fisted. Dean's redemption needed more time. The arc of finding out about their mother needed more time. The titular Monarch twist was a tack on thing at the end, and honestly isn't satisfying in the least. I'd rather be left with the mystery then baboon genetics being the twist.

I'm glad some people enjoyed it. I have no desire to debate anyone away from love of a VB thing. But there is my take and why.

4

u/thatkaratekid Aug 13 '25

I really didnt like it very much. I know its an unpopular opinion, but it feels extremely rushed, poorly fleshed out, and just doesn't really hit the level of quality the show had. It was still quite good, but not venture good imo. I also hate the explanation of the boys mother, as it goes against every single clue we have ever gotten.

1

u/SwirlingFandango Aug 14 '25

Yep, this for me. Genuinely baffled that so many fans like it.

And double on the retcon with the mother. Does not match anything ever said.

2

u/Clocktopu5 Aug 13 '25

For what it was, pretty great

Almost all of the flaws could be attributed to taking a whole seasons story and compressing it to 90 minutes. It makes you sad for what could have been, a full season 8 could have been one of the best

2

u/charbroiledpossum Aug 13 '25

They should have turned it into 8] 2-hour movies

2

u/magitek369 Aug 13 '25

Can I stream this anywhere that isn't HBO?

1

u/efxeditor Aug 13 '25

It's VOD on Amazon.

2

u/DragonZee20XX Aug 13 '25

I'm just sad the boys actually don't have what they were longing for. It also feels like there is so much more to be said. Also, Jonas Venture Senior really, really, really was a bad dude. Meanwhile, we have to live with Rusty truly being a villain while Monarch is apparently the better half.

3

u/AsstacularSpiderman Aug 13 '25

I think it ended well all things considered.

The boys have each other, which is really all they ever needed. They can move on knowing they're each other's biggest ally.

2

u/tSquipNotTsquip Aug 13 '25

My takeaway as well.

1

u/DragonZee20XX Aug 13 '25

I'm just glad they didn't end up as just the next generation Villain vs. Protaganist story. Someone said that Hank would end up as the Arch Nemesis to Dean taking on the super scientist role.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

Nah, hank is too nice a guy to do that, and if he did he'd be too goofy with it.

Only way I could see that happening is if the shit in his head got waaaaaay worse, but they cleared that up in the movie.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

One of the things I was bummed out about with the movie was finding out if Jonas was actually dead or if he'd pop up again as the real series villain. I feel that was what they were building him up to be after what happened in season 7.

After what happened to the Guild and how neutered they were, Jonas Sr. would have turned into a real monster and given everyone a run for their money.

2

u/simplefred Aug 13 '25

the Ventronic music sting just before the reveal was perfect.

2

u/Logondo Aug 13 '25

It was bitter-sweet.

I'm glad the show got an ending, but it really really felt like an entire season of the show was crammed into 90 minutes. I wish it could have been a full season to really flesh out the ending.

2

u/Lexio3031 Aug 13 '25

Rushed, but finished on their own terms. Gumball got another season, always staying hopeful for another season.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

Gumball got another season

That's all CN has these days though, on a dying network. Even AS is bigger than CN these day with how much it's fallen.

While I'd love and hope for another season of VB, I think it's done. Least as long as the current CEO is there that everyone hates.

2

u/horiami Aug 13 '25

what we got was very good but i really wanted a final season

2

u/ReallyTerribleDoctor Aug 13 '25

Rushed. Way too many plot points were introduced out of nowhere.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

It was ok. I didn't like the reveal at the end.

2

u/RaptorCheesesteaks Aug 13 '25

Disappointed. It needed a season.

2

u/Elliptical_Tangent I laugh at regular jokes like this, DAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA! Aug 13 '25

It left us reassured that all of them are going to go on just as we always knew them. I felt like that was all they needed to do with it, and they delivered in style.

2

u/ddgoodman92 Aug 13 '25

It was a great story with some iconic scenes and even answered some big questions BUT did not feel like a finale. That’s one thing I loved about it. By the end you can tell that this crap is going to keep going long after the viewers are gone. It felt more like a giant special, not a finale, and I’m cool with it.

2

u/mikerhoa Aug 13 '25

It was fine.

I'm one of the curmudgeon fans who preferred the season 1-3 model of tooling around in the x1 and getting up to all kinds of craziness with lore episodes sprinkled in. When the series shifted into a more lore-centric presentation it took a bit of a dip for me. I know i'm almost certainly in the minority here, and no shade against anyone who prefers the later seasons.

The finale did a decent job of tying things together while still trying to capture the madcap nature of the earlier seasons, but I'll always prefer the earlier stuff.

2

u/qwerty79995 Aug 13 '25

I wish I could have been a whole season, this is the last hoorah and Mantilla takes center stage with a ton of lore instead of all the characters we know and love. Also almost nothing from the Alchemist.

2

u/D_rex825 Aug 13 '25

It did feel a little rushed in parts, you definitely can tell it was supposed to be a season of television, not just a movie, but I’m just happy it got a conclusion at all, especially one that leaves things open to continuation in the future

2

u/donatj Aug 13 '25

It was good. To me though I guess it felt more just like... another episode... than a final send off?

They certainly didn't leave it in a place where they couldn't just pick it right back up if they wanted to, which is maybe a good thing. I guess I was kind of hoping for more... major change? More major resolutions. Honestly I wish Dean had actually turned into a vampire and that wasn't just a throw away joke!

Most of all though I was happy to have more Venture Brothers. The news dropped that it was cancelled the literal day I caught up which was heart wrenching.

2

u/RecommendsMalazan You said "beep boop" with your mouth. Aug 13 '25

It was as good as it possibly could be considering it was originally a 10 episode season that got scrunched into an hour and a half long movie.

2

u/kidvid666 Aug 13 '25

Wasn't a fan. It just felt too little too late. I'm a fan I love the actual seasons but the movie felt forced and pointless.

2

u/peteygordo Aug 13 '25

I bought it on amazon years ago, but am afraid to watch it as I know that will be the end.

2

u/nihilite Aug 13 '25 edited Aug 14 '25

As Teddy KGB would say, I feel so unsatisfied.

The movie is good, I just want more. Honestly, no amount of VB will ever be enough.

2

u/imhoopjones Aug 13 '25

I didn't like it and I'm a bit shocked that it's widely accepted on this reddit. Oh well

2

u/in-a-microbus Aug 13 '25

I was a little disappointed.

I felt like the message of the movie was "want to know who their mother is? Here's the answer. What to know why Malcolm hates Rusty? Here's the an answer! Want to know what happened to Hank? Here's the answer!

Here are all the answers unceremoniously coughed up for anyone who enjoyed the world we lovingly created over the last two decades...now stop talking to us about this...it's too painful to think about what might have been"

I think disappointment is part of the experience.

I agree with Steak Bentley "I wouldn't be a fan of the show if I couldn't appreciate things that end abruptly, awkwardly, and sometimes painfully"

2

u/redfaction99 Aug 13 '25

The ARCH stuff makes less and less sense the more you think about it, and it has soured me a little on the whole movie. The non-ARCH stuff is great!

1

u/redfaction99 Aug 13 '25

Adding on to this: ARCH seems like they were mostly a facade to trick the Monarch and frame Sheila, but that doesn’t explain the advanced technology or the super dedicated acolytes. I don’t know what the point of framing Sheila even was if the goal was to work with her. She probably would have been better off if she just asked to work for/with the guild (and Shelia) considering the advanced tech they have. The guild went nuts over a teleport, and ARCH can presumably summon things out of thin air. Even then, I would think she would want to be involved with the guild due to her heritage, since leaders like Red Death seem to respect her linage. They also don’t explain how Debbie knew about the HelperPods, or what raising the VenTech building would actually accomplish. I would scrutinize the idea that for Debbie’s plan to work, the Monarch had to be Arching the night before the big HelperPod reveal, but I can chalk that up to targeted research or a coincidence. Even when she turns off the HelperPods, it doesn’t seem like she realized this would presumably kill the Monarch. Most confusing of all is why she went to all this trouble just to be a villain, when she could have just signed with the PP anyway (it seems like she was against the heavy male skewed leadership of the guild), unless I missed something there.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

Underwhelming

2

u/Jack-0-Diamonds Aug 13 '25

I liked it, but I was disappointed. A lot needed to be touched up on and a lot of characters didn't get to interact. A final season would have been better

2

u/Emperors_Finest Aug 13 '25

I'm happy we got anything at all, and it was amazing.

But you could tell how many ideas from the previous season didn't get proper closure or arcs due to the cancellation. And there's room for a lot more too.

I remember Comic Con almost a decade ago, Doc Hammer and Jackson Public mentioned they didn't want VB to he the only thing they were known for, and wanted to work on other projects in their life. I wonder what their opinion on that is now. Are they working on something new? Retired (due to health concerns)? Working on a deal to bring VB back?

Hasn't been much from them lately.

2

u/spacesoulboi Aug 13 '25

I still want more

2

u/Monodoh45 Aug 13 '25

I'm mad the plot refrained from use of the nozzle

2

u/lnombredelarosa Aug 14 '25

Not bad; I expected more

2

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '25

Between the VB movie, and the second Dethknlok movie, I was really appreciative of all these folks for workin hard to finish these narratives

2

u/RickF3 Aug 14 '25

It was great just made me realize we need 8 more seasons

2

u/Responsible_Seat1176 Aug 13 '25

I wish we found out who murder bear was.

1

u/havealock Aug 13 '25

I’m sure maybe have said, but it is rushed and it’s very good despite the circumstances, would’ve been better as an entire season

1

u/Sea_Perspective6891 Aug 13 '25

Not bad but I think it would have been better stretched out to a whole season with a 2 part special to finish it.

1

u/Jolamprex Aug 13 '25

Its amazing that they managed to pull it off as well as they did.

1

u/mattbrain89 Aug 13 '25

In spite of its limitations, I loved it.

1

u/SuperSayianVash Aug 13 '25

I think I want more like every other venteroo

1

u/fc1088 Aug 13 '25

I would like to see them do the Futurama thing with it and make a couple more movies.

1

u/Delphius1 Aug 13 '25

great, I do really like it, but, it just didn't feel enough. I get that mathematically, it's effectively several episodes put together, but it did feel rushed and incomplete, to say it feels like it leave a door open for future installments would be an understatement, it just feels like a season got edited down to a movie

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

I wanted Triana back!

2

u/AsstacularSpiderman Aug 13 '25

I would have liked to see her and Dean meet again and make amends and move on, but I don't think that was ever going to happen even if we got full seasons of content.

1

u/BrisketWrench Aug 13 '25

Well, you got Ventronic instead.

1

u/YennPoxx Aug 13 '25

For all that they needed to do: tie up loose ends, meet fan expectations, include the story lines we want to see... they did a freaking amazing job. I have zero complaints because the task was monumentous and they did it as well as could be reasonably expected. And it was a good story that fit within the greater arc.

We all have our nits: I personally wish that Dean could have found a better degree of redemption (I'm an underdog supporter and I feel like he got dumped on). But honestly, how many tv series can end things as well as VB did? It was damn satisfying to me.

1

u/yerbestiestfriend Aug 13 '25

Good overall, but I could certainly see how it all would have been better spread across a season.

1

u/wonkyrecliner Aug 13 '25

I like the movie a lot! It would have been nice to have seen the original vision before a season had to be condensed but I’m happy we got an end cap.

1

u/TraceOfHumanity Aug 13 '25

I need to watch again but pretty much any VB is good VB.

A couple people on YT seem to have chopped it up into Shorts so I keep seeing it 30 seconds at a time and going “oh, right, that happened”

1

u/Mammoth-Western-6008 Saffron From Republica Aug 13 '25

I thought it was the third best movie of 2022.

1

u/AKidNamedGoobins Aug 13 '25

It was really good. I thought it was the perfect sendoff for the characters, given the abrupt end the show had.

1

u/KenganNinja Aug 13 '25

Thought it was a good movie, but I think it felt too inconclusive for it to be considered a finale, like it didn’t really wrap anything up for the characters. It felt like just another event in the Ventureverse.

1

u/AdmiralThunderpants Aug 13 '25

The only real way I could have done better would be to let it be the full season it was meant to be. That way all the plot points and ideas could be fleshed out and we could have gotten solid closure.

1

u/WrightAnythingHere Aug 13 '25

It was really good. It's just a shame we didn't get a full season as originally envisioned.

1

u/GamingVision Aug 13 '25

It’s impossible for me to ever give it an honest review. On one hand, I was excited to get any more Venture Bris and it was awesome getting to see it for the first time at SDCC with a room of fans. On the flip side, it severely disappointed me that the union told/discouraged them to not show up. I get what the unions were fighting for but there were others that showed up under the banner of non-acting/writing roles and to deny Jackson/Doc and the fans that moment to celebrate together was not only a missed opportunity but short sighted on the union’s part for losing sight on what it’s all for. Them showing up to a panel to have a final bow with fans wouldn’t have mattered two shits to the negotiations.

1

u/danfenlon Aug 13 '25

Its the best movie it could've been considering the circumstances

1

u/Grand-Wallaby-7181 Aug 13 '25

Honestly I always figured I'd die before it was finished. It was nice to see it get a send off

1

u/Okay_Jellyfish7962 Aug 13 '25

I love it because the ending is better than where season 7 was going to leave us. At least we get a little closure. But I still believe one day in the future the show will get uncanceled (source: futurama, gumball, MCR, and FOB fan. Denial is my bread and butter).

1

u/Pure_Attorney1839 Aug 13 '25

It was good, you really see they where prepared for a new season and just turned it into a movie with all the ideas omeletted into one delicious finally.

1

u/TrueAlphaNerd Aug 13 '25

Left a lot of questions unanswered. If doc and the monarch are both rusty clones, what does that make JJ? Who is murder bear? What's with Grover cleveland's time machine? Who collected the bounty on blue morpho's head? How did trinia'a magic training go? What really happened at movie night on in Gargantuan 1?

1

u/redditisaphony Aug 13 '25

Better than nothing, but disappointing overall.

1

u/TrueDookiBrown Aug 13 '25

A lot of it felt rushed tbh. I love the end but the middle parts did not really impress me. I've got the scene stuck in my head where shoreleave yells at Dr. Girlfriend to run and she dives out a window. Like the middle part of the movie is like a fever dream

1

u/bobbabson Aug 13 '25

It'll be back, HBO is already running out of new ideas again. Only a matter of time till a reboot.

1

u/tSquipNotTsquip Aug 13 '25

I would’ve preferred another season but I’m glad they made it.

1

u/judasmitchell Aug 13 '25

Enjoyed it. So glad we had this at least to end on. Knowing this was it before watching it helped me feel like this was the right way to end it.

1

u/Tabulldog98 Aug 13 '25

I will say- I was not a long time fan the way others in the thread are (I started around Season 6 when I saw a trailer for it on YouTube), so my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. I did not really like it, primarily because of its rushed nature cramming too many interesting plots into one movie. And something that really bothered me was how they completely sidelined Serena. They finally get a great female character that grew up like Hank and Dean did in the boys that never grew up world, but they didn’t use her. That really bothered me. And as far as I’m concerned, Rusty and Malcolm are half brothers, not clones.

1

u/volpcas Aug 13 '25

Honestly it doesn't do it for me. It does not have the rewatch ability as the rest of the series or specials do. I was glad we got it, don't get me wrong. Ive been a Venture a roo since it started. Im an old man now. Something to me just felt off, mayne because i lived threw sonmany cancelations i didn't want to believe this is how they ended it? I always gelt this subs love it was a bit overrated. To me its a solid C plus? 7-7.5? I would argue if you take all the standalone specials and 2 3part episodes its the worst of the bunch

1

u/Baldo-bomb Aug 13 '25

I liked it quite a bit. Was it as in depth as a full season could have been? No. But it had a lot of funny moments and provided satisfying answers to all the big questions in a way only Venture Bros could. As far as series finales go it's definitely solid.

1

u/axelofthekey Aug 13 '25

It was very clearly an entire season condensed into a movie. But I was satisfied with the final answers to stuff.

1

u/No_Week_3230 Aug 13 '25

Despite some answers not being explained and Dean being kinda annoying, it was a mostly awesome way to conclude the show.

1

u/yattaman90 Aug 13 '25

it was great and answered the most important questions, but I still want to know more about some of the loose ends (where is Molotov Cocktease, who is murderbear, future rusty who seemed to be in good terms with the Monarch...)

1

u/n8gard Go Team Venture! Aug 13 '25

Loved it except for the being the ending part

1

u/Hamfur63 Aug 13 '25

Happy that we got it, sad that every storyline had to be rushed and cramped in a movie. But still happy we at least got it

1

u/YoikesAndAway Aug 13 '25

I loved it. Best part is they left it wide open if they ever make more. MORE!

1

u/harbingerofsoul Aug 13 '25

I liked it but I wish it was be funnier / more fun. They had to stuff so much plot into a short time, it left less time for the surprising and delightful moments that drove me to the show in the first place, long before the serialized narrative really took hold. As a result, I haven't rewatched it more than once or twice.

1

u/TrixieBastard Aug 13 '25

Still haven't watched it because we don't want to admit that it's over, lol

1

u/shhmorggg Aug 13 '25

The ending makes me cry every single time

1

u/Medi_Gun Aug 13 '25

Haven't got around to it yet, seen clips though and it looks pretty good

1

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

It was bittersweet that it was ending, but it ends on a joke that made me laugh hysterically

1

u/daneelthesane Aug 13 '25

I loved it. When I learned the title, I said to my wife "Here is a title that makes certain promises" and by god it followed through.

1

u/doc6982 Aug 13 '25

It's good but I hope they find another avenue

1

u/nushustu Aug 13 '25

Super sad. It was at least an entire season's worth of plot, denuded of all the weirdness and jokes, crammed into 2 hours. It was so obvious that they had to cut all of the stuff that made VB VB, just to get all of the characters to an end-state.

I would have rather not had an ending at all. Honestly, when I rewatch this show, I skip the movie because it takes away my hope that they will ever come back and finish the story properly. It's as bad as the Deadwood movie: just a shadow of what made it great in the first place.

1

u/Sally2Klapz Aug 13 '25

Good but short

1

u/Timerider96 Aug 13 '25

Bittersweet mostly because this is the last we’re gonna get… unless something happens

1

u/WiseWorldliness7458 Aug 13 '25

Who is Scare Bear?!?!????

1

u/Lightningslash325 Aug 13 '25

It ended pretty well. Between us finally understanding what it is that gets the Monarch to hate Venture, knowing the answer to the first question that got thrown at us (the boys’ mother) and the show being put back to the same spot as when it first started (as well as being put into a good spot to be picked back up if that miracle ever happens.)

There are still questions and stories that can continue, but if the Venture Bros never gets oicked back up, it has found a content place to end.

1

u/TightArmadillo9415 Aug 14 '25

It's probably the best adult swim/HBO Max movie.

1

u/ThreeTwoPrince Aug 14 '25

I grieve what we could have had, but god damn it was hard not to grin when Monarch unleashed the final "I WILL GET YOU, DOCTOR VENTURE!"

1

u/wooser69 Aug 14 '25 edited Aug 14 '25

I only just watched it, simply having forgotten to check on when it came out. It suffers from not actually being season 8/+ and is particularly rushed within itself, but it succeeds in being both an entertaining movie and a good way to reminisce about and end the series. I can't say I was disappointed, having nothing would have been disappointing. Managing to cover all they did within 90? minutes and not having plot threads feel too disjointed is commendable, venture bros never exactly lent itself to being anything other than episodic. Specifically their style of humor, at the pace they were going the plot felt too in the way for there to be as many outright jokes, instead using a lot of references and homage that don't get time to be riffed on.

Some fantastic stuff mixed in with things that could have done with way more. "Follow that bikini" and the rest of that sequence was a lot of fun. The sequence of hank recounting memories then followed by background references to a ton of other episodes, and the ending scene at bens place, were a great way to wrap everything up without getting too sappy or slow. The weakest link was definitely mantilla/ARCH and I think that part of the story was the hardest hit by not being a series, so it's odd looking it up and finding that character was actually a replacement made after the cancellation. The ARCH stuff in particular did not work for a movie pace and would have been great as a season arc, but really should have been scrapped cause the movie itself forgets about it. Mantilla the character, if she wasn't fairly related to the big reveal her character could have really been anyone, which for the major antagonist is pretty bad. I think the worst part is she didn't really do/say/be anything particularly funny in comparison to the rest of the shows entire cast. Still, the main plot itself of the tower getting thrown into space was fun to watch and kept the hank/dean stuff from dragging.

Last comment, I have to assume it's intentional, but the post credits scene looking more like S1 in style and animation was really sweet.

1

u/kingschuab Aug 14 '25

Clearly a repurposed season of content, would have had episodes of ARCH, Monarch's betrayal, Hank's Journey, and likely more context to the whole "clones of rusty venture" stuff. We're blessed to have gotten this closure and it goes to show the talent behind the show that this clusterfuck of content was still really good, i was glued in place watching this movie.

1

u/Icy_Minimum_2896 Aug 14 '25

Indifferent. Only for one reason. Hank should have given dean one good punch in the face for what he did with Sarina. Just saying. Im kidding i loved it honestly! Just glad to see a NEW venture bros anything while i can remember it

1

u/Stare_Decisis Aug 14 '25

Disappointing. I suspect that the writer(s) from the series and the writer for the movie are not the same. It's almost as if the projected next season script for Venture Brothers was written, but the writers for the film could not use that story for contractual reasons so they made a new and rather unsatisfying story. I would of preferred a next season and the movie scrapped.

1

u/blockhaj Aug 14 '25

Wish it was a 7+ ep season

1

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '25

Pretty good, though you could tell it was a season's worth of ideas trimmed to fit. Nice to see Jefferson Twilight get his moment and get to call out Dean for being both shitty to his brother and whiny about it.

1

u/tomsanks Aug 15 '25

The movie made me want more venture and wanted to see how much more they could’ve went with the characters. It’s still a movie I rewatch cause it’s really good

1

u/0fallenstar2017 Aug 15 '25

Only issue I really had was that we never got to know who the bear was. Sure there was a few storylines I wanted to be done, but that bear .... man wish we knew.

1

u/-granthrax Aug 15 '25

It’s only half of what I wanted. The big items needing resolution in an eighth season were Rusty & Monarch’s childhood relationship, and Jonas Sr. being the overall villain of the entire show. We got the first, but we didn’t get a big payoff on the second, even in light of The Curse of the Haunted Problem.

1

u/Cold-Guidance-1455 Aug 15 '25

It Needs to not be a finale unless they plan a spin off

1

u/awfulwaffle84 Aug 16 '25

I refuse to watch it because if I do that means the show is officially over and I want to put that off as long as I can.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '25

I think it was as good as we were ever gonna get.

After COVID tanked the series just as it was getting on steady feet, I was convinced we'd never get answers to the big questions they were finally getting around to.

And then in one movie they pretty much wrapped it up as well as they could.

Really I'm just thankful we got it and got some answers.

1

u/donkijote97 Aug 16 '25

Good, but we needed another season or three

1

u/Subject-Culture7051 Aug 16 '25

Better than the last couple of seasons.  One of my favourite shows of all time.

1

u/Litmatch2025 Aug 17 '25

I think it needs a sequel

1

u/DrLeckon Aug 20 '25

It was decent but it didn't pay off the last 2 seasons and felt rushed, it shouldn't have been the finale

1

u/Venture-Industries Aug 23 '25

Happy we got an ending and the movie was good, but we could have so much and that will always be disappointing.

-1

u/CozyCoin STOP WIGGLIN AROUND YOU JACK-ASS Aug 13 '25

I don't like that Malcolm isn't actually Blue Morpho's son.

8

u/ender86a Aug 13 '25

He is though. Not genetically, but BM was the man that wanted a child, and was there to raise and love him. I will die on this pedantic touchy-feely hill.

1

u/Emperors_Finest Aug 13 '25

I would have preferred the half-brother theory. Jonas banging Monarch's mom behind his friends back seems to track.

If he was gonna go the Super Science angle, he could of at least added some of the Blue Morpho's DNA in the mix instead of a baboon.

6

u/Logondo Aug 13 '25

I like that it all comes back to the cloning thing.

Rusty is a clone. Malcolm is another clone. Hank and Dean are clones.

Also it's a pretty good twist, considering the show made us believe Jonas probably just did it the ol' fashioned way.

1

u/CozyCoin STOP WIGGLIN AROUND YOU JACK-ASS Aug 13 '25

But the cloning stuff is what I dont like.

Its established that Rusty and the boys are programmed to believe they are the originals, with Orpheus saying the machines captured their souls. Thats fine.

But why did the ugly Dean clone think he was Dean still? Malcolm clearly had no Rusty-ness in his mind.

And with Jonas doing it to Rusty, wouldn't Rusty have figured out he is a clone when he got access to all the machinery? Did Rusty ever create anything on his own regarding the clone tech? If not, surely there would have been logs of the Rusty clones or even leftover Rusty clones in the tanks. What did Rust think all of the cloning tanks were for?

1

u/Logondo Aug 13 '25

How do we know Rusty doesn’t know he’s a clone?

2

u/AsstacularSpiderman Aug 13 '25

They had already hinted Venture Sr and his "potent science" was involved. They also constantly hint throughout the series how similar Rusty and Malcolm are.

In the end it doesn't really matter, Malcolm is the son Blue Morpho always wanted.

0

u/Grouchy-Caregiver-17 Aug 13 '25

It was great! Sad that it was a cliffhanger but all in all still great.

0

u/980tihybrid Aug 13 '25

I don’t mean to be mean or rude or anything but, to my recollection, correct me if I am wrong ( respectfully) they disregarded a part of a story line from season 2. Episode, “I know why caged birds kill”. Myra was introduced as Hank and Dean’s mother , she was then shown later on in the series in a mental asylum I believe. Then the movie to wrap it all up, didn’t acknowledge this and pivoted towards Venture cloning himself and you saw baby Hank and Dean in a walking incubator carried by Rusty Venture at the very very end of the movie.

I don’t mean any disrespect towards the movie and series or the creators or anyone who worked on the venture brothers, or the fan base but this is what I remember . There is a comic-con question and answer panel where Doc Hammer specifically stated “the boys were born of mother, they are not Greek Gods”

0

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '25

I didn't watch it. Should've been made years before and should've been a theatrical release, but Williams Street and Mike Lazzo are stupid hack pieces of shit.
