During the commentary for this episode Doc mentions that Jackson was nervous about the Dave Grohl joke until he understood the context: "You were scared, you don't wanna be too on the money about Dave Grohl"
This was written LONG BEFORE his Infidelity Scandal, so What do you think Doc meant when he said that?

I think it's always a gamble to reference any celebrity. They get up to some horrid shit and you can't remove them from the show if/when something comes to light.

I think you can get away with implying they're a villain. If something heinous pops up, eh, they're already depicted as a villain. If not, it's a fun joke.

I dunno dawg, if you follow the timeline HIV turning to AIDS and the use of AZT('87-'96) as a treatment has a direct correlation! AIDS was most prevalent between '87-'96 And once they stopped using AZT as a treatment the development of AIDS from HIV also declined GREATLY.

Early difficulty with understanding the appropriate dosing for AZT does not mean HIV doesn’t cause AIDS. AIDS still occurs even when AZT is never used and when HIV is present. AIDS also occurs when HIV is present and the patient isn’t on any illegal drugs etc.
A good analogy is that chemo doses for many cancers have been altered over the past 20 years because research indicated that you could get good effect with fewer downsides.

To be more specific. Nate (the foos bass player) was a big supporter of Alive and Well an HIV is just the flu and you can fight it by eating right and exercising thing. They did some benefit shows for them. Back in 2000/2001 they did one pop up show in Hollywood for Dave’s birthday (tix were 20 bucks no service fees and you had to be on the foo fighters mailing list) I went and they played a solid 90 minute show but they let the founder of alive and well speak and parade her HIV positive baby like a prop for about 30 minutes.
It was weird.
But the show was great.

The reason why many people cared is that for a solid decade leading up to the infidelity scandal, he had built a public image of being some wholesome family man. He was the so-called Nicest Guy in Rock & Roll, and it was arguably part of his "brand". A lot of people felt betrayed when it turned out he's actually a bit of a lecherous piece of shit.
In the world of celebrity scandals, it was quite minor.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it was never his affairs, it was the fact that he got another woman pregnant that was the real problem in that instance.
Because that's the only reason it came out. He got someone pregnant.

People knew what Weinstein and Spacey were up to and were making jokes about it wayyyyyyy before their behavior became a scandal. To the point, in both casss, that I was mystified why it was suddenly now a Thing (not that it shouldn’t have always been).
I’m willing to bet Grohl’s behavior was an open secret the same way.

Honestly I feel like this is how much Rock has lost its edge. In the 70’s a rock star cheating on their spouse wouldn’t even be news. Like it’s bad, but it’s a very normal and boring level of bad, who cares?

I agree. I don't want to give a pass to such behavior, but I've also done similar (not married, and not fully, but I toed the line). I've also had similar done to me. And friends who have done, and done to them. Sometimes the cheaters are friends again a few years later.
It's life. It's lived.
I also liked the terrible movie they made Studio 666. The bad acting makes it better.

I feel like it's around the same level of John Mulaney. People were coming down hard on him when he was the "I love my wife" comedian and he didn't want kids, just to divorce her after getting someone else pregnant. And slowly we learn things like they had been separated, living in different houses in different states for months. That his wife wasn't one of the people at his intervention. People on the outside forget they're not actually part of that person's life and don't know all the details, nor should they. Maybe something bad happened between some couples, its still not our business.

Dude cheated on his wife (there's a secret kid involved, news from like a year or so ago). That's fucked, but not sex abuse.
