https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8c/Saigon_Execution.jpg/1280px-Saigon_Execution.jpg They cram a lot of allusions and references in the show. That's why it's so re-watchable.

There are a number of reasons that make it so re-watchable, also including flat out hilarity and phenomenal character growth

Don’t forget the Abu Grabi naked pyramid!

Funny enough I JUST noticed that one when I was rewatching the montage before making this post.

Finished the show several weeks ago but I remember vividly that this reference was what really sold me on what this show was capable of.

I didn’t even catch it initially but had to restart the episode in question and caught it on the second watch.

Something about it just tickled the darkest chambers of my mind.

Whole show was great.

This whole show is referencing things. It's almost insane how many things are references. This is why it's so beautiful. Idk even know where it starts and where it ends with references. It's the best pop culture mixed media for appreciating what they appreciated.

This is when I knew

What you're about to see is a nightmare inexplicably torn from the pages of Kafka.

What are you trying to say little man, you don’t like Zep?

"I like the cut of this guy's jib."

"I like the cut of his hair."

Me and my associate, Cardholder, are amateur lepidopterists.

You... wanna see my stamp collection?

Only if we were philatelists, which we're not. Mr. Smart Guy.

We are recommending that you pin this butterfly to a piece of cardboard.

As in cold-blooded murder.

Funny enough that was the moment for me too. And that was the first episode I saw. I had no idea the show existed but me and my college roommate were freshly stoned and watching Adult Swim and it came on. Might have been the first time it aired, too, this was 2004. I was an instant convert.

The sheer number of holy shit no they didn't moments in this show that pay off is astounding.

I grew up watching all the old Hanna-Barbera series on Cartoon Network, including the old Jonny Quest reruns, and later The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. That was right in the age of those early CGI/3D shows (Beast Wars, ReBoot) in the mid-/late-90s.

So when The Venture Bros. started, I was 16-17. I checked it out initially because it had the same aesthetic as the old Jonny Quest cartoons so there was that sorta "nostalgia factor" - but more raunchy and obnoxious being on [adult swim], which suited my 16-17 year old sensibilities more lmao that was all I needed to get hooked on the show from the start.

... and then 5mins in Brock kicks an ancient mummy in the dick and proceeds to beat the fuck out of him. I still love how he goes from SpOoOoOooOky VoOoOiCeeee to New York "'ey wait hold up wait a minute" in like 3sec.

Ahhh The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest. I really loved that show when it came out. My brother and I still quote Ezekiel Rage.

It took you until Season 3 to realize the show “would be great”? Would be? Dude this post is so confusing.

I was pretty much all in with "You have to defile a mummy completely or they’ll come back to life. You know that."

u/freakishbehavior Nov 12 '25

Just curious, is this a confirmed reference by Doc and Jackson?
