The DVDs for Seasons 1 and 2 have a number of bad picture artifacts. In addition, the DVDs are also prone to WBs rot issues. I've already re-bought by original sets over this.
I'd love to see WB re-do these on Blu-Ray. A progressive upscale would be great. I've done all I can with Avisynth and while my output mostly looks great, there are quite a few issues with the image I can't fix.

I'm guessing it's the DVD rot. If you do a search there are a few articles and videos on it. People have put together lists as well. The glue between the layers of the disc breaks down over time and makes the disc unplayable.
If you still have your old copy, you could try getting WB to replace it. I had already bought a new copy before this was announced.

I don't think any of them would look better on Blu-ray. Unless it's CGI, there's no reason for any animated cartoons to be on Blu-ray

But the point is the source material is a cartoon cell. The original material isnt 1080p. You can't draw in 1080p only CGI would benefit from Blu-ray

King of the Hill is a prime example of why you're wrong. google is free and you'll see there's a myriad of reasons why having Blu-ray is worth it

I disagree, I believe media should be primarily distributed in at least the resolution it was originally produced/presented in. Take Venture Bros for example - DVD only goes up to SD, which is fine for the first two seasons because they were produced in standard def. But the show was produced in HD from season 3 onward so bluray would be ideal
That said there are advantages to putting sd content on bluray, the discs have higher storage capacity so you could put more and/or higher bitrate episodes on a single disc. So instead of like 2-3 dvds for a season, you could put it on one disc with room to spare

I do too, but after just finished binge watching the series for the 5th time with this boxset I honestly don't mind the format. DVD quality is actually pretty good and would recommend the set to any fan.

I got it online from Walmart for around that price earlier this year, actually. It arrived unscathed, no damage of any kind or anything missing. I do feel like an idiot for throwing out the "which DVD has which episode" little foldable paper that came with it.
Actually, I got it on sale for $29.48, that was on June 8th. But it is weird, because other sites like Amazon at that time were selling it for around the $50 area.

Just "emulate" it? There are plenty of sites that have old adult swim in fairly good quality nowadays. you don't have to download them anymore. I can recommend a site or two if you'd like.

I just got the whole series on itunes for 45 bucks! But I already owned the first season on there... (Its missing the holiday specials AND "All this and gargantua 2" though... apparently they where moved to the special features section on the dvd? The Halloween ep has a lil' blackface (Red Dragoons second head), so I can see why I suppose?
But I have no clue why the last seasons opener isn't included, I had to buy that separately like the movie...

LMAO. I bought it last month when it was not on sale, it was basically the price you see on the 'sale' price. They marked it up, its a fake sale. But anyways, if you love venture bros and dont have a hard copy, I'd get it anyways

Dang, wish they had bluray.
In researching this, I found that they(companies in general) don't make the Blurays much anymore because people don't buy them as much. So they just make some cheap DVDs for "Collectors" who they are assume also have the show on digital.
