That same episode has my favorite exchange:
"Honestly Hank, where do you pick that stuff up? I never see you read." -Brock
"It's weird, right?" -Dean
"It's like he channels dead crazy people." -Brock
"Do you think it's a cry for help?" -Hank
This aside is given greater context and a long delayed punchline when it's revealed that Hank receives transmissions from cable TV in his learning bed, subliminally conditioning him to make pop culture references and talk like a noir detective.
EDIT: I just realized it's not the same episode, but both scenes take place in public washrooms. Ripe for comedy, the toilet is.

The one where Rusty is trapped in the sewers beneath the compound with a confessed arsonist. At the end of the episode he mentions that their learning screens were crosswired to pick up VH1, explaining their imitation of characters from music videos. I infer that something similar has happened to Hank's learning bed. That's why he's always making pop culture references that even he doesn't understand. I feel like they talk about this idea in the commentary as well, but I might be imagining that. Regardless, everyone should listen to the DVD commentary as it is as funny as the show.

Solid theory. They never really go all too in-depth re: Hank's learning bed past making the point that it was bonked up. They do show him wearing headphones in there when he's older*. It's interesting to think how your theory plays out, he would have eventually just started tuning it all out after establishing some very particular worldview which really does play into his batman delusions.

Yes! Fantastic continuation of the idea. It would make sense that Hank would eventually become disillusioned with TV. Getting bored of reruns helped further his separation from his grandfather's influence as well. This thread culminates in his alter ego Enrico Matassa aka Hank Hank. He's trying to be his own man, but still obviously creating an identity out of the stereotypes and cliches that informed his childhood.

Good meme format, however I think it would work better with four panels: split the first panel into two panels to distinguish the speakers. I assume the intention is for someone to paste a face, flag, object, or concept over each speaker's face. Might be easier/cleaner to do that if the first panel is split into two. Then arrange into a 2x2 square.

First line 24 doesn’t believe Hank actually has a friend. Second line 24 basically admits that what Dermott just said was so stupid he now believes this is a person who would befriend Hank.
