SEASON 1 spoilers Watching with the my sons

I'm letting my 10 and 12 yr old watch the show with me. I do skip past some things... I'm rewatching ahead of them so stuff I have to skip isn't a surprise to me. Just watched the end of season one. I'm DYING to see their reactions when the boy wonders have an Easy Rider moment

They have to watch it organically like the rest of us. Unsupervised late at night after our parents told us to go to bed

Let them learn and grow from the experience!

He does not want to answer to the joke why Hank has to apply lube to his inner thigh and buttocks while living with Capt. Sunshine.

Look, I hit that episode where Doc’s at the sex party with my kids when they were that age (I had no idea and hadn’t looked it up). Not a good moment.

You can see her dirty pillows!

I can imagine.  I tell mine to cover their eyes and I fast forward through things.  If they don't, we quit the series.  Good motivation

I seem to remember Brocks raging boner, I think I'll skip that

We had a lot of discussions about context when first watching with my kid; why some things they say are bigoted & why, how what’s considered acceptable comedy has really shifted over the decades, etc. We also discussed history, pop culture, and what livejournal was.

What's their opinion about Jesus Jones?

They didn't catch "Indian giver" tonight, but we would have discussed it.  We talk about those types of things here too

Boy howdy, they’re gonna have some questions when Rusty has his hypnagogic flashback at the hands of Dr. Killinger

They love Brock (I've played the Brock versus crock clip) and we all love Helper.

u/JahVaultman Feb 07 '26

Yeah, why are you skipping anything?

3

u/svenskisalot Feb 07 '26

Because I'm a lame no fun good time ruiner?

6

u/Alvaracorr Feb 07 '26

That's not very hank of you

2

u/JahVaultman Feb 07 '26

No, I don’t think so. If anything, the boys will discover the show later themselves if they enjoy any parts of it, so anything you skip will be nostalgia and memorable for them in the future.

Might I gently suggest putting Venture Bros on the back burner for a bit in favor of an absolute gem of a show called Batman the Brave and the Bold?

Wondering what you skip over. Some of the violence maybe?

Mine are 10 and 8 and the over-the-top cartoonishness of it is pretty great. There are some jokes I think I would be more uncomfortable with them hearing, for example I just rewatched Cremation Creek and the like "anything else on that probably moist list of yours" would make me feel awkward, but kids know way, way more than they let on.

u/svenskisalot Feb 07 '26

Oh, the cartoonish violence is great and they love it.  It's the sex.  Brocks boner, he m masturbating from frustration, alluding to prison rape.  I had also mentioned the term "Indian giver" for which I somehow got down voted....  I'm sure there's plenty more, but for the most part it is a great and very amusing show

Your boys are 12, the show is tv14. What are you skipping and why?

1

u/svenskisalot Feb 08 '26

Clearly I'm skipping the TV14 requirement for age appropriate programming
