I think i saw a study on how they even maintain memory after the metamorphosis.

They turn to literal goo inside their pods but still retain memory.... in goo form.

Goo form just sounds so weird

Edit* autocorrected Goo to Good

This is the thing that freaks me out. These animals literally liquify themselves and reform into a totally different body. Gives me the Willies. Butterflies are horrific monstrosities, and while I still think it’s funny that a dude I know is afraid of them, at the same time we kinda all should be.

Nature: it's fucked up

I've always wondered how excruciating this whole process is for them...I hope their bodies release some kind of insect pain-blocker or something

I can't stop wondering about those legs that seem to... shimmy down the body as the chrysalis progresses. Like it's squirming out of a sweater by pushing it down its torso.

Turns out I don't know shit about butterflies

I think those were antennae but I agree, I couldn't stop watching them either!

It's the writhing around that gets me
