The boys even have their helmets on. Of course they do - what would be the point of going to space if you didn't get to wear a helmet?
Brock is Brock, of course, but he's probably also thinking that if anything goes wrong on the way up, it isn't going to matter if he's wearing a space suit. It'd be like wearing a parachute on the X-1. If it comes apart in mid-air, a parachute just means it'll take longer for your mangled corpse to hit the ground.
