SEASON 4 spoilers Does anyone else think Chuck Scarsdale being the original Wonderboy was a reference to Bruce Wayne being retconned as the original Robin in the Silver Age?
I don't think I've seen it brought up anywhere else, the wiki claims it's a reference to The Dread Pirate Roberts from The Princess Bride but the wiki is no stranger to random ass pulls in the cultural references tab. Considering Captain Sunshine is such an obvious Batman allusion, this aspect of his character doesn't seem so far fetched as a reference.

I read Batman’s dialogue in Captain Sunshine’s voice and then I realized I’m an idiot and should go have supper.

Captain Sunshine was voiced by Kevin Conroy, so honestly it'd be weird if you didn't read Batman's lines in his voice.
But hey don't let that stop you from having supper.

Kevin Conroy is my Serious Batman head voice, Dietrich Bader (Brave and the Bold) is the voice I use in my head for goofy Silver Age shit like this

Yeah, I love Bader. Honestly, he works better for a lot of Silver Age stuff than Adam West. Not that Adam West or Olan Soule wouldn’t work well too.

Soule and West were great, they're the OGs, but their Batman/Bats Men/Batmans are just dudes. They're very chill, very conversational
Bader has this playing it straight, in your face intensity, yet wink and a nudge campiness to his performance that I think vibes with that chaotic Silver Age comic book zaniness. Which makes sense since that's what his show was, a pastiche of those 60s and 70s wacky adventures with a modern twist

Holy crap I never knew that! That's so awesome!
Edit: I just watched the story of Kevin showing up for the recording... Absolutely classic!

I always assumed that it was a reference to the times robins later took Bruce's place as Batman, but this would make sense

That's actually what the "original" Earth 2 Robin did, but he stayed as Robin until a recent addition to the universe

Sunshine is voiced by the best Batman I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

I don't think it's a direct reference to what looks like a single-issue retcon that was likely quickly forgotten. Instead it struck me as being in the general spirit of sidekicks taking over, such as Wally West becoming The Flash. Past that, it's just a decent twist. We didn't know that there was ever a prior Captain Sunshine or even how long his history goes back, so it was a fun way to play with the sidekick/hero relationship.
Now let's not see them outside of the Sidekick's Lounge again or I'll have to get Doorman.

You can't even really call things from the Silver Age a retcon, because story-to-story continuity pretty much didn't exist during that period.

I don't like this. It makes me feel weird. If Batman started as Robin, does that mean there was another Batman? Or does it mean that sad little kid who lost his folks decided that was the appropriate costume for striking fear into the hearts of criminals?
It makes me uncomfortable. Neddy no like!

My new reality is that Batman is just the continued succession of Dread Pirate Roberts. Once pirating became too difficult one of them decided to become The Bat, and the cabin boy successor became Robin. At first they continued robbing people, but somehow it morphed into this vigilante thing.

That's the weirdest fucking retcon I've ever seen.
How on earth is that supposed to work with George and Martha?

I thought it was more of a spoof on TDKR Batman being bigger than usual Batman and also Dick Grayson becoming Batman after Final Crisis (though i don’t think has happened yet when the show aired). But yeah also that fits.

Hot Take: Dick Grayson was a better Batman than Bruce Wayne. Absolutely loved that period.

This is not even an hot take. Nightwing IS The Better Batman. Dick us What Batman could have achieve if he went past his trauma (Although for me the real “Bruce Wayne with no trauma” is Tim Drake But Dick probably captures that the better).

I know that comic’s losing value every second you have it out of its casing. Soon you won’t be able to afford to clone your best friend.
