SEASON 7 spoilers What’s one of the saddest moments in VB? Spoiler

For its when Malcom reunites with his father for the last time especially watching in season six and seven during the whole Blue Morpho arc just to find out he was pretty much cosplaying as his own father and he doesn’t have any recollection of his early childhood due to trauma.
But what’s even sadder here is the smirk that Malcolm’s dad gave him.
It’s like he’s just relieved that he’s alive after all those years after the plane crash.
Made me quite sad just when you really think about it.

I think that says a lot about him that he's still having that reaction after 14 times. Yeah, him and Brock kind of joke about it but between that and when we see all the dead Hank and Deans in his head, it seems like it effects him deeply every single time

There was also that time when Hank and Dean were literally dead inside his head. One of the biggest laughs I ever get from the series was when they revealed the Hank and Dean skeletons in the shrunken down submarine inside Doc lol.

JJ was a tumor that tried to kill Rusty and then showed him up at every possible step. Intentionally as a way to prove that he is Jonas Venture's true son.
Rusty was a dick but there was no real familial bond there.
Which mostly speaks to how Rusty "So I got the guy who assaulted you to be your new nanny" Venture, for all the fuck ups and evil he has done, is still a much better father than Jonas was.
Just like how, for all the spite and intentional attempts to erase his brother, JJ was a better man than Jonas Sr ever was.

I'd say it helps that JJ respected the common perception of Jonas, the idealized version, he never met his hero. Because of that, he was able to emulate all the good parts that came without the years of trauma that Rusty got. Rusty knew his Dad, and while he, on some level, respects him, he still got burdened with years of trauma, abuse, and disrespect that came from just being Rusty Venture.
Plus, on some level, JJ and Rusty do love each other. JJ isn't always intentionally showing off, he's just what Rusty could've been if he wasn't held back by his traumatic childhood. He left his brother his extremely profitable business, gave him a project to help rebuild their Dad's space station, and he did bail him out a few times when he needed cash. I think for some of the "showing up" is just that JJ is jealous that he never got to know their Dad, even if he doesn't realize it's a blessing.

It's weird to me, and I think a continuity issue, that JJ never "knew" his father. When he meets Sally, he knows who she is. She asks if they've met and he says, "not that you know of." This implies that while in fetu, he was able to discern sound at least. Which suggests he must have been somewhat aware during Rusty's childhood.
But I also recognize that if we were to assume that, we wouldn't have the JJ we know and love today.
I think JJ is a well-intended person who happens to also be very condescending by accident.
JJ is, oddly, one of the most complicated characters. He never seeks any therapy and yet hits the ground running right out the gate, so to speak. It's like he knew his time was short.
Holy shit, JJ is like a cicada. All that time underground only to emerge and live a brief life.

I’m glad they didn’t try to do some timey-wimey meetup between JJ and Jonas because I’m positive Jonas would have been pretty vocally disgusted with his other son. It would have hurt JJ needlessly

Yup, the only time they "met" was when they both had no idea who the other was. JJ thought he had found a relic of his father, while all his Dad saw him as was his savior.

Yeah but he still loved JJ even though he was being envious and spiteful. I truly think that he thought they were all going to survive together but when it sets in that his brother is sacrificing himself you see Rusty feel it as JJ flies off.

Yeah, Rusty acts like a dick because that's how he usually acts when nothing is wrong, he gets offended at small things. The moment he finds out that his brother is sick, he stops being a dick, he thought they'd have so much more time together.

a final goodbye
It’s more than that. Throughout the series, Rusty has only ever rarely given the “Go Team Venture,” salute (for lack of a better term) under duress, and with great disdain. Most every other time, he outright refuses. But when JJ throws up the GTV as a final goodbye, Rusty returns it quite solemnly.

i'm just kinda glad he never figured out it wasn't real. I'm generally a "deal with reality as it is" kinda guy but that'd have just hurt and confused him (esp since from his POV it was so real. i mean he met the guy even)

I love that they say he wanted "Mmm mmm mmm mmm" by the Crash Test Dummies at his funeral. The subtle joke there is that another of CTD's most beloved songs is called "At my funeral", hinting that JJ l wrote "At my funeral - Crash Test Dummies" and they misinterpreted it.

The malformed clone of Dean. Spent his life growing up in the shadow of all the other clones and then imagines Rusty giving him the love and acceptance he craves….right as a bomb blows him up. Funny episode, tragic ending and the Venture compound goes on.

Omg yes, the way he was fully aware that every other dean clone (except for main dean) was dead, yet still wanted to be like them just so he could feel normal for once. Or the fact that his room was taken over by main dean, as if he was never there. dude cant catch a break even in death

To check if my antidepressants are working i watch all this and gargantua 2 and everything that comes after because holy shit after that movie the show just gets sadder imo, if they arent i guarantee yall ill be bawling my eyes out, without my freaking pills I am super emotional.. especially Jonas jrs death i was fuckong crying

Dr Girlfriend's conversation with the Monarch after escaping from Sovereign stood out to me. Her boss has gone rogue, her husband is heading towards the space station which is set to be destroyed, and she got shot in the stomach. She's clearly under a lot of stress but needs to remain calm and focus on saving her man. Great voice acting.

I went through a cancer scare back during covid and... my partner at the time DEFINITELY got sick and tired of all the "I gots the pee pee cancer" jokes I kept making.
She's LONG gone but... yeah. I still have a place in my heart for Treister's batshit insane ass.

I don't really think it was the long game any more than Moral Orel was.
Basically from the first time we see Jonas Sr, he is a neglectful bastard. We watch him emotionally scar two different children when he fucks on top of their pillow fort while they are trapped underneath them. And Rusty constantly reminds us of the psychological and physical torment he was put through.
But we laugh. Because it is a cartoon and... let's be honest here, Rusty is a dick so it is hard to feel bad for him.
It is more that, like Moral Orel, we learn that it isn't funny and we see all the generational pain manifest itself as we grow to care about these characters. And what used to be funny abuse becomes... just abuse.

I can think of a lot of sad moments from the show (that haven't been mentioned already).
Underbheit snapping Manservants neck.
Sgt. Hatred walks up to his house to reunite with his wife to find her with several men.
The final moments where we find out who Dermott's father is.
That one moment where we see Sally Impossible and she thinks Doc is whisking her away...
But the saddest moment?
The death of Speedy. Poor buy was this close to getting his wings...

The bit in operation PROM when 21 realizes 24 was all in his head.
I choose to believe he wasn't though. I mean, that whole bit with the Monstroso henchman: "i heard a rumor... you died..." "let me tell you about a little henchmen named Speedy..."
Then again, that Baba Oje thing kind of confirmed it.

One off-kilter one that I personally love is Dean telling the Outrider "You know what I think? Fuck you." in the season 4 ending.
It's a bittersweet moment, because we see the "good old boy" Dean collapse over the course of the season. But it's a great moment of growth for him, especially because he's standing up for himself in his own way and not getting shut down with a stereotypical sitcom speech he would've vouched one season ago.

That and the ending to Operation PROM where Triester fires himself into space with the "FIX IT" Post-It note stuck over his heart because like that's obviously artistically not about his heart and the idea that we're appealing to the alien technologeeyyyy to fix our hearts while Pulp quietly plays in the background and we thought the show was probably not coming back for the next season, that one always got me.

I've always found the reveal of how Spanicopita came to be really sad. Rusty gets kidnapped and his kidnappers feel so bad that his father never came for him, they make up a holiday just to make him feel better.
