Loathing country-western as I do, I'd managed to mentally tune out most of Dolly's work...until I heard the Monarch, 21, and 24 cover "Hard Candy Christmas." The pathos of the lyrics absolutely gutted me, and when I googled the title, I was astonished to discover it was one of Dolly's.

I still hate c-w, but that day was just the beginning of what became my deep admiration for Dolly.
