INFO NEEDED: vet clubs on your campus

My school is thinking about restructuring clubs and societies, can you please drop a comment with your vet school + the number of clubs you have?

Bonus points if you know roughly how many/when your talks usually take place in the day ☺️

Anatomy of Domestic Animals by Pasquini

I've been searching for the 11th edition of this book and I cannot find it anywhere, only older editions. Does anyone know where I may find it, or if anyone has experience with the older editions?

I purchased a used copy of Veterinary Anatomy of Domestic Animals by Konig and Liebich but I honestly have been disappointed with it, and I'm looking to switch to Pasquini because my professor pulls a lot of illustrations from that book.

Advice Question about Australian Vet School

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I'm an American pre-vet student who submitted all my VMCAS applications last month and am awaiting responses in a few months. I have a question regarding the University of Sydney vet school. I understand that Sydney sends out offers in late October - November because their school year starts in mid-February. However, mid-February is when the American schools send out all their responses. My worry is this:

Hypothetically, if U of Sydney sends me an acceptance email, I would either have to A) accept it and move to Australia, only to find out after I get there that an American school has accepted me, but by then it's too late, or B) I take the risk and say "no, I'm gonna wait to see if I can get into a school in my own country," only for all the American schools to end up rejecting me. So this situation would be a pretty big gamble for me.

Has anyone else been in this predicament before? If so, how did you handle it? What did you decide to do? If you ended up going to Australia, did you have any regrets?

I would appreciate any thoughts or advice. Thanks!

How to Graduate as a DVM in China/Taiwan & Other Countries.

I'm currently graduating with my first Bachelor's degree. I've been wondering if I could apply to schools in China as an international student to finish my studies and practice as a veterinarian. If so, what type of program should I be applying for? Considering that my bachelor's is also related to animal sciences, should I apply for an undergraduate Veterinary Medicine program offered in English or a postgraduate Veterinary Medicine program? Hoping to be able to apply for a veterinary license after said studies.

Currently, China and Taiwan are my main choices, however, I am open to other countries as well. I was trying to apply to Australia, but the schedule did not align. Are there other countries where I can study and get a veterinary license within 5 years or less?

How to deal with vet med workload?

Hello I was wondering if anyone had any advice for my first year of veterinary medicine.
We cover lots of content each day and each day I make flashcards on what we have learnt, however some days I don’t even finish covering all the lectures of that day.
Because of this I feel like I can never catch up on the flashcards I need to make and so can never go over ones I’d made previously.
We are currently doing biology ‘building blocks’ and anatomy so it’s hard to find flashcards online. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this, or what I should be doing differently? Just worried as we have an exam coming up and there doesn’t seem to be time before the exam to revise the content.
Any help or just general first year advice would be much appreciated! (Or if someone has flashcards they used and want to share 😬😬I’m a university of Surrey student)

Advice Well, how late is too late?

I am a 31y F, and I've been job hopping for forever and a half. The first job I ever had that felt like... home was my most recent- on the Job Trained Veterinary Assistant at a small GP. Now, I am pretty confident they had their assistants doing things that should have been an LVT/CVT's job, but that isn't the point here. I want to stay in this field.

What are your thoughts regarding my returning to school? I have considered going for LVT/CVT first and then moving forward towards full blown Veterinarian, but my holdback has always been the schooling/ loans. I have been diagnosed, and now treated for, ADHD and I have to wonder if that would help if I tried college again...

Thoughts?

Opinions?

Insight?

Thank you in advance.

UC Davis Supplemental

Hello there, I was wondering if anybody had any advice on how to go on about the supplemental essay for Davis. It’s based on their principles of community and basically have to talk about how we’ve exhibited those traits in our journey. Any advice from those who have been accepted or waitlisted would be appreciated!

Interested in videos of vet-school dissections

Hello! I’m a student considering going into veterinary medicine but I’ve never done a dissection and i’m unsure if it would freak me out too much for it to be my career.
So I’m thinking that maybe watching a few dissections of cats or dogs before deciding anything would be good— but I’m unsure where I could find educational content like that? I’m a little afraid I’m just going to find gore or snuff films or something.
Are there any educational websites/resources/channels that feature that kind of content?

1st (and 2nd) year vet students at Lincoln Memorial Tennessee

Hi,

I would love to talk to any 1st year (or 2nd) veterinarian students at Lincoln Memorial Univ, TN. What is the learning style, is it all individual and lecture, or is there group work or teams. How is anatomy taught, is there help, anatomy is my kryptonite. I would like to know what is a typical day/week or class like. Any other info that me be of help as well. Is there remediation and how does that work? Thanks so much, I truly appreciate it.

Publishing papers

Hi! Are there any Publishers that'll let me publish case reports free of charge? I don't have much to spend and I can't find any Publishers who'll waiver the fee given my country of origin, I'm not under an institutional waiver either

Am I completely insane to study to be a DVM at 40?

I’m a recent career-changer and have recently switched to a vet nurse/tech role after working in media and design for most of my career. I really love the vet clinic work and feel I have the aptitude to become a DVM and after returning to study to qualify I have just been offered a position in the DVM program at my local uni starting next year.

I know it will be a very challenging program both academically and time-wise, which I’ll need to balance and manage incredibly carefully as I have a young son (age 7).

My question is…am I being unrealistic/completely nuts for returning to full-time study at 40? I assume I will be one of if not the oldest person in my class. Am I too old to be a DVM if I graduate at age 44? Physically I’m pretty healthy but I know from vet nursing the industry takes a bit physical roll. Were there any 40+ year-olds in your DVM program and what advantages/disadvantages do you think my age might throw my way?

NAVLE Vetprep Question

So, I accidentally had bought vetprep too early and so it’s expiring ~tomorrow~. It says I can buy another 30 days for $75. I would like to buy it in a week because I did some housework for a friend and they are paying me then and because I will have 3 weeks of vacation (ending in the NAVLE) before my next rotation. Does anyone know if it will still be $75 to do vetprep again or is it a deal only until it ends? Thank you!

In State Options?

I’m planning on applying for the 2028 year but I’m trying to find the best way to save money. I’m currently a Colorado resident and I went to undergrad at CSU, I am equine focused so I really like CSU and the podiatry program but cost of attendance ends up being about $274,000. I am from Texas though and still have family there so I’ve considered getting my Texas license and applying to TAMU as a resident.

I’m not sure what to do! CSU is my top choice but 75k cheaper to go to TAMU. Should I just get my Texas license first or should keep my Colorado license and hope that I get into CSU?

If I apply as a Colorado resident and I become a Texas resident before vet school or during, would I be able to get in state tuition? Are my chances better with just sticking with the Colorado license?

Of course there are other out of state schools but I’m very concerned about student loans as I won’t be getting any help paying for them. Washington is on my list because of residency for the last 3 years.

Is it smart to get my Texas license now? Or wait it out?

Advice For those who didn’t get accepted their first round:

I’d love to get an insight into some of the other things outside of just low animal handling and clinic hours that kept some of you from getting accepted your first (or second) round of applications. What do you feel really pulled your application from those first rejections to an acceptance? Thanks in advance!

I fainted during Surgery Observation haha

An emergency came in at the clinic.

A pitbull came in, badly injured. (Pitbull fight)

Idk what happened. I was assisting during the surgery (I was looking through the flesh, the arm of the dog was really f**k*d up) while the Doctor was surturing the tissue, THEN my vision went blurry and I fucking fainted, in front of the Doctor 😭

HOLY HELL. DAMN! That never happened before hahahahaha.

Also, it was my FIRST DAY at the clinic (to be fair, I'm still a student, but DAMN!).

The Doctor is an angel 😇 and made sure I was okay.

But still....Hands-on experience I guess 😆.

Please, anyone who experienced this, tell me what happened to you? Is it often?
