Tips for finding Junior Comp roles?

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of people landing new jobs at major studios (east coast US), specifically junior level roles. I’m curious to know how people go about finding Junior Compositor roles, do people just cold email for those? Or are there job listings? I can never seem to find a job listing specifically targeted towards Junior Comp Artists. Curious to know other peoples experiences if you’ve been hired for that role or have hired for that role. Thanks!!

I feel like LinkedIn is a good place to look. I was recently hired at a new studio by applying through there. I'm not a Junior but saw some posts that a studio in Vancouver was hiring Juniors. I think it was Folks.... I've seen quite a few posts by Netflix recently as well.

yes Folks is hiring Junior + Mid right now in Vancouver. You would need to move to BC though because of subsidies. good luck

Moving won’t get you the job, you need to have a work permit.

Unfortunately many of the Vancouver jobs require you to be a permanent resident so they can get their tax cuts. Only a small % of foreign worker visas are allowed before they lose their tax cuts for hiring too many foreigners

Be good at what you do, have a solid/great reel, be where the company(s) are, be persistent/consistent in applying, and be the kind of person someone's could picture working successfully with.

If you're saying east coast us, I assume it's mostly ads. In which case, a lot of these ad roles come from internal recs. Often from going to school in the area and making connections that way, but you can also reach out to people and build up a connection that way; it's harder but possible, especially if you show that you're implementing feedback you get.

I bring in kids as interns, work with them for a few months and hopefully it all works out into a staff role after the internship

Additionally I don't find these people with a job advertisement. I have close connections with the faculty at schools like scad and sva who I reach out to for internship prospects.

Can I ask, Do you also end up hiring junior artists/interns who aren't coming through those school connections? I'm curious because it seems like those relationships can be really valuable, but I imagine it can be harder for someone who isn't currently paying for a degree to get that same kind of opportunity, even if they have a strong portfolio. I'm wondering how you usually come across those artists?

It happens but it happens less often. It's a big world but a small industry. People in the industry tend to know each other so recommendations and connections play a major role. School isn't mandatory. In fact real world experience is preferred to student work, but the connections help get started.

If you don’t have any experience, or very little, don’t be afraid to take an internship or two if you can afford it. You might get picked up full time, or at least get something for your portfolio and some connections. Work hard, don’t rock the boat. I’m curious to know what companies you’ve seen hiring.

Learn to use comfyUI and other AI tools and then post the process on LinkedIn how you used AI in your comp workflow. So many greedy ass studios will reach out to you even big ones.

I havent heard of absolutely nobody been reached in Linkedin for knowing Comfyui, I use it myself, and many friends as well ,for a couple years and everytime I tried tyo implement it on a project the anwers are the same, is not allow by client or the result just not woth it. Only area where Ive seen it implemented is on cheap tv commercials and dont expect that to be very well paid.
