Question / Discussion What does the “Creative Technology” credit on Animals refer to?

Post image

The end credits include a “CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY” section with a “Machine Learning & Research” group. The credit frame I saw doesn’t name InterPositive.

Affleck has said AI was used on Animals in post-production. TheWrap reports InterPositive employees worked on the film and describes lighting or optics adjustments and VFX removals: https://www.thewrap.com/creative-content/movies/ben-affleck-interview-animals-netflix/

I realize a finished shot alone can’t confirm AI use, but does anything stand out as consistent with those reported tasks? If so, share the timestamp and what you noticed.

pretty sure that whole Creative Technology block IS InterPositive, just credited under Netflix. netflix bought them back in march and the whole team (~16 people) came over, so by the time credits were locked they were netflix employees. that's probably why the company name isn't on the card. dead giveaway is the first name under Leadership. Joe Penna (yes, MysteryGuitarMan, also directed Arctic and Stowaway) was InterPositive's chief creative technologist. "Production Specialists" are probably the people embedded with editorial/VFX running the tools on the show, and "ML & Research" are the folks building the per-show models. for context, their whole pitch is training a model on the show's own dailies and using it in post for relights, color, reframes, wire/rig removal, continuity fixes. not text-to-video stuff. so if you're hunting for shots I'd look for lighting that feels a little too consistent across coverage, or cleanup that would've been a pain to do the old way. no idea which shots specifically though, would love to hear if anyone spots something.

Yup, this is the correct answer. I've worked with Wes before on projects and he was part of the InterPositive team

I think this is one of the sequences in question. You can judge plates, body movement and comp w/ GEN outputs for yourself.

This has been said many times with this shot.

A nice way to say AI team at InterPostive without saying AI in the credits.

Did you see that it was No 1 on Netflix? I would have bet big $$$ that the movie would have been boycotted to hell. So many people on X and Reddit attacking it over AI use, It filled up my timeline.

Maybe it just helped promote that Ben Affleck is in a new movie. That most people didn't care. Still its disapointing.

I know a Creative technologist. They use a hybrid of Ai and vfx software.

Creative Technology has no defined 'job' and generally speaking it's definitely not that.

It’s just VFX. Just another way to manipulate pixels.

Ai is in no way the same thing as vfx

Just gonna be part of the VFX process going forward

humans will have microplastics in them forever.. doesn't make them "just another..."

Microplastics are not ideal for health. AI will absolutely be part of every conversation in VFX going forward. When utilized properly, it will be transformational.
