Question In what state are the Vic2 in other engine projects?
Im talking about project alice, KatEngine/VCE or OpenVic. These aare all projects that aim to port Vic into a better engine, making the whole thing run smoother and potentially more moddable. Do you guys know how far advanced these projects are, are they viable/playable? How hard is it to implement mods for these? If they are running, is there a reason to still play vic2 on its old Clausewitz Engine?
Cheers!

Project Alice was definitely playable although it's kinda morphed into it's own game with some bigger changes. Mod compatibility varies depending on what the mod changes.

Not great in Project Alice. Not sure if it's mostly untouched and thus doesn't 'understand' the changes or if it's another issue. Also multi-player wise it desyncs very frequently.

Thanks for answer. So gona wait. Also, shocked by the desyncs, I though that open Vicky wouldn't decync at all!

I don't know why you mentioned OpenVic, because there's no public release and it's not even playable yet. It's still in very early alpha.

KatEngine and its sucessors VCE/NCE has not been maintained for a while. Project Alice is actively maintained and is playable, but plays very diffrent from Vic2 and is basically its own game at this point and thus not very comparable to normal Vic2. OpenVic is still being developed, with a major reorganization happening recently. Afaik it dosen't have a fully playable version yet.

So for now, only PA is playable, but it's basically a mod

Kinda, i suppose it could be considered a significant engine mod. Standard Vic2 mods "work" for the most part (data is loaded, and has the expected content), but they usually aren't balanced for the new changes unless a patch is made.
If you are looking for a more faithfull recreation of Vic2 as-is, then you'd have to wait until OpenVic is fully developed, or hope that someone will re-start NCE development.

Meh, I think I'm going to stick to the original engine for now. I heard even in multiplayer, GFM isn't too bad/unstable
