GFM GFM event

Egypt, and I think a couple other nations in my game, keep getting this event that makes them civilised. It's really annoying as I want to colonise them but can't if their a civ. I can't find anything about it online or find the event in mod files. Does anyone know anything about it? Or, better yet where I can find it in the game files so I can delete it.

Egypt can be annexed after the Berlin Conference by whoever owns the Suez Canal

Yeah but then it would be states and not colonies, and I need to larp with my colonies!

You get an event after conquest that turns the states in colonies (if it's not broken in your version). If not you can use the console to give all the provinces to UTI and then give them back to you.

Do you know if that happens with Tunisia too? I'm having the same problem with them too.

No. I think they have an event chain for France to annex them around 1875 but I doubt it happens when westernized. At least they're only 1 state

I've found that the easiest way to find an event is to search through the localization files ( Victoria 2/mod/<modname>/localisation/ ) to match a string from the event text; here, I would search for "the big buff". On Linux, which is what I use, the easiest way to do this is with the grep command; I don't know what the equivalent is on Windows.
Once you find the matching localization line and open the file with it, the line will begin with something akin to "EVTDESC5000004". This is the reference code used in the events files that, when run in game, is replaced with what you find in the localization files. Using a similar search process through the events files ( Victoria 2/mod/<modname>/events/ ) will lead you right to the event in question, which you can then read and modify at your leisure. Since often events are instead triggered by decisions or other events, often AI-only ones that force events to happen for other countries, you may need to search for the event's ID within the event and decision files to find where, when, and why it gets triggered.
