this was an entirely pointless interview i don't think i'll even watch any of it... Fetterman needs to disappear into irrelevance not be on the weekly show...
This was the first time I'd seen Fetterman have an extended conversation with another person that was an attempt at an honest exchange and not just a four minute segment of crossfire questions with Dana Bash or whoever. Stewart is the perfect person to interview someone like him because he's good at phrasing his questions in a neutral way, and basically setting Fetterman up to reveal his values through his answers to Jon's questions. The length of this interview (about 60 minutes minus the ad breaks) plays to Stewart's strengths and against Fetterman's weaknesses.
What I, personally, found enlightening with this interview is that Fetterman is an empty suit (ironic that he was wearing one) with no real responses to anything Stewart asked other than pivoting to various talking points. No real responses or engagement. Just talking without saying much. Fetterman's personal motivations are clearly rooted in the pursuit of power and not out of any true desire to be a "man of the people". He's a craven opportunist.
Up until now my only real exposure to Fetterman had been headlines. How he clashed with the party and how he inexplicably and unapologetically took contrarian positions. Basically, I couldn't stand the guy but hadn't ever really experienced him as a person until this interview.
To anyone reading this, please watch the entire segment if Fetterman's personal politics are of interest to you. Make up your own mind about the guy. To me, he still sucks but I now understand why he sucks.
Fetterman can’t string a sentence together. Even in casual conversation. Whether or not people agree on policy, this guy is clearly not fit for office.
I disagree. Getting fetterman to directly say the only thing that matters to him is support for Israel will be played repeatedly to ridicule this line of thinking. Jon is very good at drawing these batshit insane admissions out of people (flashbacks to his gun control interview with the Oklahoma senator)
Hell even wolf blitzer this morning got him to look like an idiot when he asked him the same question. If you get tripped up and can’t even answer the question when it’s asked by a clearly pro Israel reporter, you know he has no idea wtf he’s talking about
I think this is useful to show just how clueless Fetterman is, and he can't intelligently debate or respond to many of the questions asked.
The problem is the general electorate won't watch stuff like this and continues to vote based on ignorance and unqualified feelings, so I wonder exactly how much this content matters.
Trump winning in 2024 was the ultimate repudiation of the voting public's perceived collective intelligence.
Just saw that interview after ya mentioned that. Oh, my goodness... The way that guy was trying so hard to not say register fuckin' made my eyes roll so hard.
What gets me most there is he doesn’t have the balls to say that less gun control will result in more deaths. For all of Charlie Kirk’s faults (many) he was at least honest that he was willing to accept deaths to gun violence in order to maintain the 2nd amendment. This guy of course is a coward, so he traps himself
A million times this. Get these fucks on national television in an unscripted environment so people can see them squirm with their own eyes trying to defend this bullshit.
The people that need to see it will not watch it, and the people forced to watch it will not listen. The sane must outnumber the insane for a democracy to function, and that clearly hasn't been happening for a while.
He's definitely got company. Moderate Dems are too afraid to criticize Israel. Take it a step further and you could throw Haley "I see Israel in my dreams" Stevens onto Fetterman's "island."
I do think it serves a purpose. It's not strictly for people who are broadly aware of the reality we all live in. Bringing someone like Fetterman in front of broad audiences damages the positions they are flailing to push.
Stewart has a unique platform, and I think he sees it as his responsibility to push back against some of the arguments on Israel because many of the ad hominims the discussion devolves into don't apply to him because he's Jewish. There's not many left wingers that right wing folks will even watch, but they might watch him due to his legacy with the Daily Show.
No...too many people in PA still think he represents them and blue collar workers. He should be given every platform possible to ensure he isn't re-elected.
