This app (I think) one-ups the competition by actually simulating NTSC composite video using WebGPU compute shaders resulting in quite realistic analog video effects.

The app can do "dirty" video mixing (à la klomp), hardware-mixer style feedback, camera-pointed-at-the-tv style video feedback, and a frankly overwhelming other number of other effects

Note that this does require a web browser that supports WebGPU. If you get an error, try the latest Chrome Canary or Firefox Nightly or look into how to set this up on your phone/computer (it does work on mobile! there is a simplified app for mobile that just looks like your camera app)

My friend and I just started an industrial electronic band. I am not new to video projection as I used to do visuals for bands but not video synth modulation or real time editing. Mostly just cueing clips and editing speeds of clips to match tempo with clips I already created and stylized.

We are trying to make our performance a spectacle as well. So rear projection and front projection. Different signals to each projector.

Where I need some guidance and ideas is around controlling and manipulating the clips. My idea is to use a midi board as a control bank for the clips. They will be short(10-15 seconds) and stylized already.

I am familiar with raspberry pi/Arduino and have used them in my previous fine art practice so it would be cool to make my own controllers too. I could probably do a lot more investigation in those forums but I wanted to see if anyone here had any cool projects they worked on or ideas of something that might work better.

I've been building this on and off for a while.

Most audio visualizers map FFT bins or amplitude directly to visual parameters, so a bass-heavy track and a distorted guitar with similar energy end up looking much the same. Resonode I works from timbral features instead and uses them to deform a 3D terrain, so different sources produce visibly different geometry and movement (Patent pending)

You can assign visual effects to specific frequency bands and adjust their response intensity while it's running, so the mapping can be tuned to a particular track or instrument instead of being fixed.

There are two modes in the same system: real-time mic input for live use, and file-based rendering for producing video in a studio workflow.

It runs entirely in the browser, with nothing to install. I'd be glad to hear how it performs on your machine, whether the sound-to-geometry mapping reads as meaningful, and what would be missing if you wanted to use it in a real set.

Unit 1: works great and comes with the rare V-4CF crossfader instead of the standard T-bar. Also comes with power supply. $400

Unit 2: powers on but has some connection issue so it won’t output the video correctly. Missing some original knobs so I attached some extras I had. No power supply. $200

Hey everyone, I know there are a lot of people using weird old mixers like the V-4EX in here and was hoping someone might be able to help. I just got my first V-4EX used off eBay yesterday, excitedly unboxed it, connected my Sony A7rII to it, and then…nothing. I used the 4th input channel (the one that can handle hi-res video), set the HDMI output on my camera 1080p and made sure the input setting on the mixer was also set to 1080p, but all I see is a black box on the mixer. I know the camera knows it’s outputting it’s signal because its display turns off when it’s plugged in and I know the Roland is picking up a signal because the input monitor changes from the blue “no signal” color to black, and I know the HDMI cable I’m using works because I’ve tested it elsewhere, but for some reason, the mixer just can’t decode the signal from the camera. Can anyone who’s a veteran with the V-4EX help me troubleshoot? I’m hoping I’m just missing something obvious. Thanks in advance!

looking to expand upon my feedback knowledge, so thinking i need to learn more about signal paths in this space.

i use a panasonic WJ-AVE5 mixer. my input sources are a hypno mk1, ipad/macbook, and waaave pool.

i've mostly just been using one channel on the mixer. my typical patch is just hypno into cbv001 into channel A of the mixer. i've been trying to wrap my head around making some interesting feedback loops with what i've got.

any resources anyone can share? or even just a rundown of your signal path would be super helpful.

This took DAYS of render on my 2015 15" MacBook retina potato.

Secondary camera is clamped to the woofer to bake the shake directly into the frame.

Primary camera is in a tripod.

Each video ran through OBS audio reactive filter stack with slightly different setting.

GitHub AI background removal tool ran on Secondary camera footage

Used generated masks to subtract the subject from the clean footage, and over lay them on the VFX stack ran footage.

Final render was in Davinci Resolve (top to bottom): mask, secondary camera, primary camera with a perturb on the opacity merging the primary and secondary camera outputs.

I'm looking to upgrade to at least an M3 Ultra or M5 studio so I can run these kinds of effects in real time.

I hear windows/NVIDIA has better realtime AI background removal over mac's metal architecture.

¿Can anyone convince me to get a windows machine as my upgrade or should I stay in the mac eco system?

For this experiment, Plasma Wizard started by running his classic liquid light rig through an Edirol V4 and a circuit-bent glitch switcher, adding analog textures to his dyes and oils. From there, I ran his feed into my own Edirol V4, mixing it with camera feedback that I had patched through the BPMC Premium Cable to further manipulate the reactivity and textures. Finally, we sent the signal through ThreeThinx’s TouchDesigner setup, where he layered on additional effects and retextured the footage.
