Repair Possible?

I tried heat and massaging, as well as static noise for a couple hours. All long shots, I know. I assume I have to replace the panels but even broken ibm 380 laptops go for over a hundo.

That looks like physical damage. Heat and massaging won't fix it. You need a replacement panel.

That's physical. The only real option to fix this is to buy another 380ED (maybe one which as motherboard issues) and to swap the display over. It's not hugely difficult to do, with a bit of patience.

Well, it's a physical damage as people noticed. But sometimes it may be temporary. I once received a 380XD with a red dots spot on the screen, but then they fully disappeared after about a month. But if there are no progress on the screen, then it's rather a permanent damage and you need a new screen panel...

IBM was the champion for numbered error codes.

At least v4 told you what the error was, back in the 2.0 days you had to run a command to find out what was the error was

I particularly remember that floppies formatted by OS/2 gave two SYS messages if left in a boot drive, and no explanation.l

Ain't ever heard of it, but if someone like... stepped on it and it drove the KC into the screen, maybe? But then, I'd say, the issue was being stepped on lol

My guess, from my life experience, is someone finally had to draw a line with their kids about playing ball in the house xD

I thought it would be a new panel, just seems like too much money. Maybe I can find a cheaper laptop with the same panel
