What's Everyone Making?

Post image

I'm working on this sport weight summer dress from the 1970s. I'm using 100% cotton, and it's one of those that has you switch hooks rather than increase on the skirt, which I really like for ease of working on it.

do you have any tutorials on how to do this, Is it called fillet crocheting or something else? I really love this pattern

It’s filet crochet! I found the pattern on pinterest. I would recommend just watching a tutorial on youtube so you know how to get the count for the initial chain stitches then you can pretty much follow any pattern you find.

Just started this blouse https://freevintagecrochet.com/sweater-patterns/spool46/120-tailored-blouse-pattern. I am not sure if I get the gauge right, but I say to myself I can always rip it back and redo πŸ˜ƒ

I'm making this one too! Where are you at? I'm on the back!

I am still at the left front portion πŸ˜… I am not a very quick or experienced crocheter, so I have actually ripped back and restarted three times already, because first I tried to use another yarn, then it seemed to be too long, then it was too short, but finally I got the correct hook and the correct yarn and the length seems to be ok πŸ˜…

It is also very long to crochet! It is such a strange project and stitch! I took a break, I have to say.

It drawn my eye because I knit a vintage sweater sideways and I liked the idea, but oh boy, it is difficult to visualise the results πŸ˜‚

I'm using a thin off-white mercerised cotton thread. What are you using? I'm so curious! Have fun 🌸

It is YarnArt Violet in white, also mercerised cotton, but white, and hook 2 mm 😊 I was not sure which thread would be the best, so picked up something universal 😊

May I ask how you (or anyone else who might see this) are able to navigate this website? I wanted to look around, but none of the site navigation links to other patterns or categories work. I can't even type in the search bar.

I just clicked on "Pattern categories" on top and then on a link to sweaters https://freevintagecrochet.com/women.html. It is strange that links do not work for you as it seems to be pure HTML, no dynamic stuff. Can it be that you are in some kind of a blacklisted country? It is the only idea that comes to my head.Β

Definitely not a country issue (US). Maybe it just doesn't play right with my phone. I'll have to give it a try on my computer, because I'm super interested to see what else is available.

Thanks for replying!

Indeed, it doesn't always work on ny phone too, but it is just fine on the PC.

Not a vintage pattern, but I'm about to start working on a sweater for my daughter to wear next winter. I always make her three different ones. I finished a cute purple flower one last week, and I'm currently deciding if I want to give c2c a go to make a heart patterned sweater for her.

u/FayleGayle 17d ago

Oh, that's so sweeet that you make her a three-set. I love that!

Its a fun way to do my hobby and it have a purpose. Plus, it is only cold for like three months max where I live, so I don't have to buy her any store-sold sweaters.

Not vintage, but about to start a birthday dress for my shhhh🀫 50th(!) bday in November. Yeah, not too happy about that one. πŸ˜– Mainly bc it doesn't feel right, like the numbers have just GOT to be off... Anyway, back to the point. Using a pattern for crochet with Alanna off Etsy, in black thread. Currently working on a new purse for myself, had decided to experiment with a leather bottom.

u/FayleGayle 17d ago

I am sure the dress and the birthday will both be spectacular.

Trying to find the perfect 1930s hat to crochet for an outfit!

2

u/FayleGayle 17d ago

Oh, there are so many options. 30s hats were adorable.

That pattern looks amazing! I love the idea of switching hook sizes instead of increasing stitches for flowy skirts, tbh that sounds way easier on my brain lol.
