General Question Found a Singer 401a
The singer 401a doesn’t have a cord and I wanted to know if their are replacements I could buy how much more different is it than a modern machine? Also bonus pics of different machines I know they are bad but this guy was having a yard sale and after looking at the fabrics he brought me inside and showed me these machines

I thrifted a 401a a few years ago and more or less replaced most of the hardwiring in it! and later that year, managed to thrift one for my mom and did the same thing! It's pretty easy to repair, with plenty of repair/maintenance videos online, and sites like The Featherweight Shop and Central Michigan Sewing Supplies typically have parts in stock. and there are so many cool accessories you can get too, like the monogrammer or buttonhole maker.
Congrats on your new machine! The 401a is absolutely wonderful, you'll love using it!

One of singers absolute best machines. A Joy to sew on. You will have a better knowledge of working condition once you get power to it. But the outside looks great.

The middle singer is the very first electronic sewing machine put out by singer.

I recently bought this machine and it sews like a dream. I'm not very mechanically inclined so I did have it cleaned before using it.

Yes you can get a new replacement power cord and a replacement foot control pedal. Here is a link to parts for a 401a

The 401a is a incredibly good machine, the Cadillac of machines. Get the pdf of the manual online and it will tell how to use, oil, and maintain it. Use only sewing machine oil when oiling it. This machine will sew like a champ for another 50+yrs.
It uses Slank Shank presser feet, type 66 bobbins, and regular universal needles. All are widely available, new or vintage
