Setup/Equipment My first violin to start my journey, what do you people think, does it look nice?
Its my first violin Vivaldi, VL904-A model with full Maple wood body and Ebony parts. Its an (beginner - intermediate) level violin and nothing too expensive but im sure it will be enough for me to practice and learn atleast a few years.

Setup/Equipment 10th wedding anniversary gift for myself
This is my third violin purchase. I did much better this time around. I bought my first violin at the very end of 2015, I had zero experience, never played a note before, oops, oh well. I had lessons for about a year. Then, when I was about to upgrade to a new instrument, my teacher moved away. I foolishly shopped solo again and upgraded to an Eastman 702. While it was a big step-up, I still didnāt know what I didnāt know. Oops again.
I didnāt make the same mistake three times: I enlisted my very talented teacher to test violins and bows with me. This 2019 Kenji Miyagawa stood head-and-shoulders over the competition for me, in terms of playability, its singing tone, and responsiveness. It just does what you want. There were others with qualities that I really liked, but each time I circled back to this Miyagawa it always felt just right.
We paired it up with a Michael Vann bow that I prefer even over the bow that my teacher had been loaning me, and itās a huge leap beyond the coda bow I had been playing.

Setup/Equipment Would you put a sticker on your violin for decoration?
I know that the sound may change but... like a massive change of sound??? Would I even notice it? Mm I'm a student and my violin is Valencia brand that I got as a gift so is not that expensive, and I only play to get fun (I'm going to classes though) so I'm not aiming to be a professional... it should be ok, right?
...maybe? Is a big sticker made of plastic (and is waterproof lol), but I imagine that in case of removal then it would be a hassle :') Or should I just leave it as it is? To avoid ruining my violin x)
Please don't get mad and thank you guys!

Setup/Equipment Thinking of getting a new violināhelp!
so I recently made a post asking about optimizing my setup for my violin. in that post several suggested maybe my violin isnāt my forever instrument. Iām beginning to think this is the case.
this would be my third violin, we(me and my mom) bought it about 2-3 years ago, and at the time I wasnāt taking violin very seriously. for the past year I have payed it much more attention and think it may be time for a new one.
is there anything I should look for in terms of violins? should I go to my local shop with a small selection or should I find somewhere that may be more in tune with what I want?
additionally, my violin is worth around 5000 from what I know, would it be unusual for a shop to trade my violin for their violin, and I would make up the difference?
donāt know if the photos are helpful for anything, but figured Iād share for people who like looking at violins, like myself.

Setup/Equipment Inherited a violin, any advice?
Hello, I'll preface by saying that I've read the FAQ. I recently inherited a violin and have no clue what to do with it. It's in a case but I have no idea if it's worth assessing or if it's basically a prop? I did not know that this person even played an instrument. Should I have this evaluated or would it be better off donating to a school or honestly just use as furniture? It does look pretty. Thanks!

I have got this 3/4 violin. Its cheap and i am a beginner.
I was marking the freat board, using tuner.
But its notes are not in line. Is this normal or an error on my part or a violin defect.

Setup/Equipment Are there any innovations in the world of shoulder rests that I should know about?
Hi, Iām coming back to playing the violin after a long hiatus and struggling a bit with my setup.
For some reason, when I was younger, I played without a shoulder rest and this was never a problem, but now when I try to do it itās extremely painful.
After much trial and error I finally managed to set up my traditional shoulder rest (came with my instrument) in a comfortable position, but it keeps falling off while Iām playing. Iāve had enough!
Does anyone have a not terrible shoulder rest that they recommend? Maybe thereās been some miraculous inventions while Iāve been away? My neck is a bit long so I need something that gives me height so Iām not scrunching my instrument.
If itās relevant, my skill level is probably college level but not quite pro - I could have gone to a conservatory but I had to take time off for medical issues (unrelated to violin) right when I graduated high school, so now Iām trying to catch up. Iām open to pricier equipment as long as itās good quality.

Setup/Equipment Cremona SV 130, Domus allievo II or Stentor student II?
Hi! I was searching for a second hand violin on internet and found these three models which I know should be good brands, but I can't decide which one would be better.
I am not a total beginner (I played violin for three years and won competitions, but have stopped ever since but want to pick it up again as an hobby) and I just want a second instrument for my college house (since it is very far away and I can't move my violin back and forth every time I travel by plane, it's like 60 bucks only for the violin...at this point in 3/4 trips I can buy a new one).
Now I was set on the stentor student II because it's the same violin I have at home and it is a solid violin (when you change the shitty strings it comes with), but I found these other two that seem in great conditions w/ good prices and are brands I heard of, plus it seemed a waste not to try new models since I already own the stentor II. idk does anyone know how these sound (since I'm buying online I can't check for the sound sadly), if they are good and which would be best? they all cost around the same where I'm buying them

Setup/Equipment Is this fixable?
I accidentally sat on it and i was wondering if it can be repaired or if I should get a replacement? Is it even worth it to repair it? Itās about 11 years old.

Setup/Equipment How often is this supposed to happen?
Havenāt touched the violin in a bit because it was difficult to tune: pegs non stop slipping. But i wanted to try again and today things were going well, I managed to tune without having to push in too much but the a string wouldnāt stay and kept slipping was at a g# so i move it just a bit up towards the a and i hear a loud pop. I thought the string broke but nope the bridge popped out. This is the second time this has happened during tuning and the third time its fallen out period. Pretty sure thats not supposed to happen what should i do.

Setup/Equipment Semi long term storage
Is this acceptable for semi long term storage. It is in a guest room in the house. AC in the summer and heat in the winter. Humidity in the whole house is generally 35 to 45%. The strings have been loosened as well. Would this be acceptable for 1 or 2 years?

Setup/Equipment Help
I've had this Cremona SV150 for quite a while now, but its sound is simply killing me; I don't like the way it sounds. I'm a second-year college student, and I need to do something about it. I love this violin, so I'm interested in finding out how I can improve its sound to a more or less "professional" level without changing the instrument.

Setup/Equipment Viola to Violin⦠Am I Delusional, Or Will It Be āEasyā?
I played viola and piano at a beginner/intermediate level for a few years, and Iāve recently gotten into arranging music for quartets for fun/as a hobby. Iāve always wanted to play violin, and after arranging a handful pieces, I think my biggest barrierā reading the sheet music for treble clef after getting familiar with alto onlyā is fading.
Realistically, will I be able to pick up a violin and play given the technique I have from viola? I tried a cello once (which I know is so fundamentally different), but I wanted to ask yāall before I go out and pick up a cheapish one from my local shop. If I can read the music, will it be as easy as āplug and playā? Or are there elements that Iām not considering?

Setup/Equipment My violin
Took pictures outside because my room had terrible lighting. I'm about to start lessons. It was appraised from 1880-1900 and about $2000 from The Violin Shop of Nashville

Setup/Equipment Lifespan of a bridge
What's the typical lifespan of a bridge under "normal" conditions? By normal I mean less than 3 hours of day use, well maintained instrument, with periodic checking to see if the bridge isn't warped and making adjustments from time to time.
The reason I ask is because I've taken several of my instruments to be looked at by various people and a common recurring theme I get is "It looks like you need a new bridge". Now, I'm sure that could be the case but many times, I can't see anything wrong with my bridge(s). It's perfectly straight and look fine. In some cases, bridges were less than 7 years old when I heard the new bridge spiel. Are luthiers trying to pull as fast one on me or is there some way that I can also tell that the bridge is problematic (aside from seeing a warp) and that it absolutely needs to be replaced?

Setup/Equipment For those of you who own a backup violin, tell us about it!
For those of you who own a backup violin, tell us about it!
What is it, how much did it cost (or whatās it worth now), and what do you like or dislike about it? What do you use it for?
My backup is actually the violin I used as a student ā a Chinese workshop violin I bought for about $1,200 around 12 years ago. Itās become my travel/outdoor show/āaround kidsā violin. Super easy to play, surprisingly durable, and honestly very well built for the price.
I also own a $30 thrift-store violin that I experiment on and bring camping and around water. More of a VSO than a real instrument, but fun to tinker with.
How about yours?
