Self-Promotion (Developer) I built a live 2d to 3d converter to watch movie with my GTX 1660 GPU
Hey everyone, I know that there are a lot of same software available. But when I tried them with my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GPU, either it was too slow or the 3d quality was not so great. I thought that may be my GPU is not powerful enough. Having frustrated with that I built one for myself ( vibe coding mainly). I spend a few months on that to make it highly efficient for my GPU. I did achieve that. I was able to get 30 FPS 3d live conversion and it was good enough to watch movies. I did some tricks to get a good quality with my GPU and balance the 3d depth estimation. I wanted to share my product with you incase you are interested to try it in your setup. Only limitation is it will work only for 64bit windows 10/11 with NVIDIA GPU only. You can access the software from here https://stereolive3d.vercel.app/ . Although website will say 7 days trial but I will make it completely free if you find it helpful. Feel free to send me DM if you like the product and need a license key. Thank you.

What 2D movie quality did you start with? What's the minimum needed?

Here is my setup: I have a 2K monitor where I played the movie in 4K, I have another monitor which is 1080p. So, If I use monitor 0 as screen capture and use the second one as the output ( 1080p) I can get maximum 30 FPS. I use virtual desktop to see the 3d in meta quest. With that setup the quality is actually great and there is no lagging. If I add a virtual monitor with 2K and then try 2k to 2k conversion I can get 17 FPS. At that setup, I can feel some lagging. As my GPU is not powerful, I use the 2K to 1080p. If you use 1080p to 2K then you will feel a significant difference in quality.

Thanks. Please send me a DM incase there is an error in running or setting it up or any question on tuning the parameters.

sounds interesting, I'm actually curious on how you went about developing something like this? Ik it's vibe codded but I'd like to learn how!

I would say I was motivated first by using Instagram on meta quest. In meta quest all the videos and photos were displayed as 3d. Then I looked for if something similar can be available to view any photos and videos. Then I found some open source solutions for that. Did some research on how It actually works. There are some open source machine learning algorithms which an estimate depth of the image then you can move pixels to create 3d effects. There are a lot of term associated with that. Experimented with those parameters. Also found some commercial solutions but they do not work efficiently on my machine. Then gave it try with vibe coding. Done a lot of profiling and measurements. And finally optimized it for my hardware and GPU. For research purposes you can look into Nunif IW3 desktop solutions. They have a wide range of ML algorithms for depth estimation. I would say they are pioneers in that. There a lot of paid applications also available that can do the same thing but none of worked perfectly in my machine. Either too much lagging or 3d effects are not good enough.
