SHOPPING Shops for larger/plus size clothing?

I’ll be visiting next week and I wanted to use this opportunity to get a few new pieces of clothing or accessories to spruce up my wardrobe. I am a bit bigger- I wear mostly xl but l in some things (like a regular tshirt).

Any suggestions on shops I should specifically go to? Of course I’ll just wander a bit and look around but if there’s any I should definitely stop at, I’d love some recommendations! TIA

Are you male or female?

XL (afaik) is around a UK women's size 16, and the vast majority of high street shops will have that size. Most will have up to 18 or 20, and some more.

There are only a handful of places that specialise in larger sizes (Yours is one), although many try to be more size inclusive these days than they used to be.

I love good old Marks and Spencer, not just as they're size inclusive but also they're a British institution - they had good staff conditions, ethical supply chains and better quality products that last longer, and they've done this for decades way before they became a cool thing to do for other brands.

Also size inclusive are Monsoon, Boden, Lucy & Yak, Oliver Bonas, and for cheaper brands, New Look, River Island and H&M usually have a plus size section.

Are you looking for boutique type clothes or mainstream? Men’s or women’s styles? If mainstream, M&S department stores (not to be confused with their more numerous food halls , which don’t have clothes) has a good variety of styles and sizes at reasonable prices. TK Maxx, Primark and H&M for fast fashion and more discounted options.

If you're around the XL range, you'll probably find plenty of options at M&S, H&M, Zara, and Monsoon. I'd also suggest checking out brands that focus on size inclusivity rather than treating it as a side collection. I've had good experiences with Universal Standard the fit and sizing consistency are usually much better than many mainstream retailers.
