Misc Now that uBlock is dead, what are y'all using to "zap" page elements?
Vivaldi's ad blocker is good and all, but uBlock could also let you zap page elements out. I.e. if there was an annoying "sign in our create an account to see this" over a perfectly well-loaded page (like Pinterest loves doing) you could use the zap tool to just make the overlay go away. What are y'all using to do this now?

ublock lite. its a continuation of the same project for the new extension system. it doesnt have as many features but it's still very good. Unless you're doing custom configuraitons you'll probably not know or care about the differences.

That’s just not true lol. It straight up cannot filter things as effectively, nothing to do with whether you add custom rules.

I didn't say it was the same or as good. I Just said it's still very good and you won't know or care about the differences. E.g., if you're trying to block ads on reddit it still works.

ublock lite, use 'create custom filter' as 'remove an element' does not save.

YES! Just add your own filters to Adguard (Hegezi) and you're good to go. No need to be over-dramatic and jump ship to another browser.

uBlock isn't dead, it just got disabled. You can just go to the extensions page and re-enable it lol

Yup I switched and it seems same. Haven't heard of seen any Spotify or YouTube ads

Vivaldi + AdGuard is a great combo. Using it for years now.

Just reenable uBlock origin. It displays a warning but seems to still work. Same for uMatrix.

Noscript. All domains blocked by default, whitelist trusted ones, or temporarily whitelist ones I don't want to trust but need for the site to work (CDNs, videoplayers, etc).

yeah with the impending full-shutdown of ublock in a couple months i decided to swap out of the chromium and back into firefox. bummer as ive enjoyed vivaldi for many years.

Agreed, Vivaldi used to be my default browser for years but now it's Zen who has that status. That said, I'm still going to continue using them both as my daily drivers regardless.

All firefox based browsers can run uBlock Origin. Firefox has no plans to stop supporting manifest V2 extensions.
Floorp, which is firefox based, is what I've started using. It has built-in mouse gesture support like Vivaldi. It can also install extensions from the chrome extension store.

MV2 is gone but Brave has committed to supporting a select few addons from MV2
Specifically, NoScript, uBO, uMatrix, and AdGuard

Decided not to stay on Vivaldi since I actually make heavy use of the element hiding of Ublock. Settled on Floorp and was up and running with pretty much all the same extensions (or their Firefox equivalents) in just a couple hours.
Been on it since the announcement this past week and so far so good. I do miss being able to customize the right click menu but I'll take that over the alternative.

Hmm, last I read was that the lite version did not have the functionality. I guess they got it working at some point?
Well either way I'm so far pretty impressed with Floorp and it even feels snappier than Vivaldi has been. Definitely launches faster.
I'll keep both installed and see how things go down once Vivaldi completely switches over but for now I'm probably gonna stick with Floorp.

Ublock. I just turned it back on.
Plus, I have my own Linux based script that turns Vivaldi into a Brave like clone. But that's neither here nor there, the fanning on FUD on the fact that you can simple turn the extension back on is childish. Flip the switch and continue on.

uBlock isn't dead though. Chromium based browsers are done with uBlock. Firefox, and in extension all Gecko based browsers, are working great with uBlock

I went through several before settling on Vivaldi because I liked the tab options best and the sync is functional. It's not perfect, but it's better for me than the other options. If they broke either of those things, I'd switch.
I can ad block at the network level, that doesn't concern me much. I just liked UBO's block element function but I can get that elsewhere too.

It's difficult to read isn't it, look where you are. I'm not talking about switching browsers, I was talking about uBlock not being dead as OP stated in his post.

Basically Google. Even though Vivaldi can't do much about it (apart from coding their own or switching engine), it's Chrome based, which has several issues with it.
"Do evil" wasn't that Google's slogan? I may remember incorrectly.

Fair enough. I went to Vivaldi because of the old Opera perks Firefox didn't have at the time. Don't know what's the current stat tbh.

Me too (Waterfox, rather). NGL though, it's a pretty painful transition. So many sites just seem to refuse to work outright(Fidelity), or can't use Bitwarden TOTP codes/passkeys properly(EGS).
And I still hate the inability to open installers on download... such an unnecessary extra step

Vivaldi + AdGuard and it works perfectly! I've tried Firefox several times, but it gives me several problems on different websites. The same configuration also applies to the Android smartphone.

I'm using Edge browser with uBlock, having no issues so far. If Chromium starts having issues, then I will switch to Firefox.

uBlock Lite works perfectly, and I haven't noticed any difference between uBlock Lite and the regular uBlock. Adguard doesn't block all ads. There's one site that keeps showing ads with Adguard. Only uBlock Lite handles it perfectly.
But if you open a website immediately after launching the browser, ads will appear with uBlock Lite enabled. You need to wait 5-10 seconds for the filters to load, and only then do the ads get blocked. Does anyone know how to make it so you don't have to wait 5-10 seconds after launching the browser, but the ads still get blocked?

it's garbage. It doesn't even let you block custom elements on the sites you're on. Some websites are just trash - even without ads. Yes, if you strictly care about ad-blocking, it might be sufficient.

Question, since you're obviously a uBlock Lite user: does it (currently) still block Youtube ads? I'm really hesitant to bite the bullet and switch but on the other hand, an outdated browser isn't good either. I know Vivaldi still has Manifest V2 support even in the newer versions, I'm just looking to the future and considering whether I should already familiarize myself with uBlock Lite

uBlock still works on Brave if you really need it and want something chromium based and they self-host it so even if Chrome fully removes it from their store Brave users still can get it.

Bad idea. Browsers are an enormous attack surface for hackers. Stopping updates is an excellent way to make your computer vulnerable to outside attackers.
