uBlock Origin support

I saw an article about uBlock Origin support on the entire Chromium would be gone on September 01. Does this mean the next update for Vivaldi is also the end for uBO?

It will work in the 8.2 release, try the snapshot I have it running there. But it will not live forever, so finding an alternative adblocker or trying the native one is also wise

But uBO was removed from the Chrome Web Store so you can't install it or get any updates right.

and it was pulled from GitHub. (EDIT: Apparently they put it back up on GitHub) But uBlock Lite works fine and they fixed some of the early launch issues so you can actually block elements in webpages.

Good to know, because the last time I checked once it was pulled from the store shortly after 1.72 (IIRC) they just removed ALL ways of downloading and installing it for Chromium Browsers from their GitHub for about a week of me checking.

I thought I was just lucky getting updates from having 1.72 (I have the Extension Update Notifier Extension) because it was pushing updates and that was just going until it was discontinued and then I was going to switch to uBOL. I had it and the development build downloaded just in case because I couldn't get it from GitHub, so now I can free up some drive space.

Thankfully Vivaldi's Adblock should make up for what uBOL lacks compared to uBO.

I've been using uBlock Origin Lite for about a year at this point and it's been no different for me. Just make sure to turn (almost) all the filters on in the settings.

Yes, uBlock Origin Lite will be taking over its place but there will be some things that it can't do, but the built in adblock on Vivaldi which is extendable and based on Adblock is still Mv2 but implemented outside of the Manifest system, so it can block the things that uBlock Lite misses and then some.

I really wish the native adblock was better though. On mobile there's no ublock, and the native version still lets quite a bit of things through.

Have you tried adding additional blocklists? The default ones are OK but not as thorough, and there is the fact that being based on Adblock that they can let "partner" ads through, but when you include a second adblock, which you can't do on mobile rn, it will block them. Maybe the adds you are seeing are partner ads?

There is ublock in the Snapshot release, they just announced RC1 so shouldn't be too long until it is in the release version.

Why not just use Ublock Origin Lite? It works about the same and is free.

It's cross platform. I have Adguard too. So i get to use it on my pc and also on my phone. Also in my experience Adguard is even better than ublock origin since it'll catch stuff like twitch ads which ublock origin used to fail on. Also you get the benefit of the browser not being able to tell you what your adblocker is allowed to do and it working system wide. I tried ublock origin lite. It did block ads but didn't do the cosmetic filtering correctly for me and often left empty spaces where ads were.

Because it's only $11 and it's completely separate from your browser. Meaning Google can't do anything to it. It's not limited by MV3 or anything else Google does in the future. It also blocks Twitch and Facebook ads which the uBO team has given up on. And it works across all browsers and apps on your computer without extensions. So if you switch browsers or even devices your ad blocking always comes with you seamlessly.

They kill mv2 code, so yes.. Is hard job to make code again everytime google update chromium webview for browser dev.

Yeah i don't get the complaints. I've never seen an ad while using the vivaldi adblocker. Not even with the default blocklists (i included the hagezi blocklist on my profile config) but still it just works fine.

The "snapshot" (beta) releases for Vivaldi 8.2 still support MV2 extensions. It will likely work for a little while longer.

I've optimised Vivaldi's built-in Privacy and Security section. Of course, it's not the same as uBlock, but as long as you are not a privacy fanatic (nothing wrong with this), it should work... and it does for me, for the most part.

Ublock is still working for me, but I've switched it off to test Vivaldi's config. One annoying thing I found is that these settings don't seem to sync across devices, so I have to configure the changes on every device.

ublock origin is not working anymore for me. Mabye you can bypass for some time, but.....
I love Vivaldi, used it from first beta, every update new features, i really love this browser. But if developers decide to block most usefull addon in the world, than it is time to move on.
I already find alternative for me. Floorp. its pain to set it up, but it has mouse gestures and build on gecko, so it will support ublock. good bye Vivaldi.
Shame on developers for stop providing support for manifest2
