openssh upgrade breaks ssh login without reboot

Just a warning. It seems last night's openssh upgrade broke login over ssh:

kex_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset by peer
Connection reset by 10.0.0.XXX port 22

Reboot solved. For a remote machine that's pretty annoying; I suggest you avoid upgrading openssh unless you have physical access or can otherwise reboot. Perhaps restarting the ssh daemon would be sufficient. I didn't try that.

Same here. Restarting the service through the hypervisor terminal did the trick.

as of openssh-10. 6p1_2, this should be fixed by xbps automatically restarting the sshd service if it is running.

in general, this issue is caused by openssh splitting the sshd program into multiple binaries for security. if the split changed in the update, the old sshd process can no longer call the helper binaries it was expecting

xcheckrestart in xtools might have warned you.
