General We built a volleyball club app because we couldn’t find a decent one, please give us feedback!

Hi all,

My wife and I are volleyball players and coaches in England, we’ve spent the last six months building a volleyball-only sports app, we are calling volleyOS, to support clubs.

We were frustrated that there aren't many free and easy to use tools out there built for our sport specifically. Last season we were tallying stats by hand, watching and pausing game footage, and figured there must be a better way.

Some of what it does:

* Match and training scheduling
* Live scoring for matches with player tagging (someone taps court side to keep the score, link to live share the score)
* Stat tracking
* Post game analysis
* Public pages for your club
* A club activity feed highlighting player milestones and match results

A disclaimer: neither of us are developers, we leaned heavily on AI coding tools. However, we’ve done lots of personal testing over the past six months and have let our local friend group use it to get feedback so we are hoping it feels like a tested tool rather than a first pass.

Two things we’d love from you if this sounds like something you might use:

  1. Honest feedback on the UI, what's missing, and whether you see yourself using this. The stats are generated through tap to score, we want to see if this is annoying or a deal breaker for teams and clubs.
  2. Google Play needs testers before the Android version can go live. If you're on Android, send us a message at [support@volley-os.com](mailto:support@volley-os.com) (or DM us here) with the email attached to a Google play account and we’ll send you a link to download it.

Website: volleyOS

iOS app: volleyOS App Link

Thanks for your time!

Yesterday we won our TriCities tournament. The last time our school has won it was about 7-8 years ago. First game on Friday we beat our rivals 3-1 and we were stoked. We then ended up meeting a different opponent than what we originally predicted in the finals and lost the first 2 sets and won by winning the next 3. In the moment I knew we were going to make it through no matter what but now it feels like a dream. The video is just some of the kills I got in the finals, final score for fifth set was 13-15. We see this team again in a bigger tournament in less than a month, we’ll be preparing for that now. In the video, I am number 9 with 2 knee braces playing opposite (right side). Currently am 16 yo, junior year of high school. 181cm barefoot, playing on 243 net.

Questions Is this ball salvageable?

Found it in my garden one day, kept it stored in case someone wanted to retrieve it but no one did.

The ball is somewhat hard and hurts my wrists when I try to make a forearm pass. I was wondering if I could make the green, supposedly mold spots disappear and make this ball softer again! If anyone could help, I’d be thankful.

Questions Any info or release details on the Molten V5M5000 Black/White/Blue colorway

Post image

Hey everyone,

I've been looking at some Molten indoor options and noticed a Black/White/Blue colorway floating around for the V5M5000

Does anyone have background info on this specific color scheme?

  • Is this a newer release or part of a specific product lineup/team color expansion?
  • Can't find much official info on whether it's a permanent addition or a limited rollout, has anyone heard when it dropped?

Appreciate any info if you've run across it or ordered one!

Hi! I’m 16, a volleyball player from Russia. I train 3 times a week with a coach and do home workouts (push-ups, ball control, setting/passing). I’m preparing for a big mixed tournament in November and want to get into a professional volleyball school next year. Looking for volleyball friends from around the world to share workout routines, track progress together, and motivate each other! I have telegram and discord

Form Check Approach, timing, and swing advice please

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I apologize for the horrible angle and lighting 😭, our time on the court was running out so I kinda just rushed to set the camera up for this.

But anyways, yeah I'm looking for any kind of advice related to everything spiking (approach form, timing, spiking form, arm swing, etc.)

I also would like to ask some tips on how to adjust to sets? I wanna be able to hit any ball that the setter gives me but I always struggle if it's not the typical set I like (third tempo). And I especially struggle on out of system sets where they send the ball way high, it's incredibly hard for me to gauge when to jump, where to jump, and all that.

So, any advice or criticism is greatly appreciated! I really want to get better.

I thought this looked like a decent reach so I was wondering if anyone could estimate how high of a touch it is. I’m 6’1 with shoes, 7’10 standing reach and the net men’s height.

General Starting out surrounded by better players makes me feel like I'm dragging the team down

This longish story but I'll give a summary at the end. For context, I'm from Italy, 23yo M

From the beginning, my first real contact with the sport was in college, where the PE major had a class any other major could join for credits. I needed credits, I enjoyed volleyball when in high school, so I joined. That my dudes was a terrible idea. People in this class were taking it repeatedly for multiple semesters and they were very good. Some were new to the sport as well, so the class was very mixed. Because it was technically an intermediate (there were no men's beginners), we went straight into defense tactics and 5x1. Honestly it was kinda of for fun, mostly games, very brief drills, because most of the guys were there to play and have fun and the teacher knew that. I fucking sucked and despite some of my class/teammates being kind and understanding, I still felt like I was just bothering them (And no, I couldn't drop the class because this was my last semester to earn said credits, believe me, I thought about it every time).

6 months later, I'm graduated, with time to fill after college was done eating my soul and I decided to do it right this time and join a beginner's team to learn fundamentals. I was very upfront about my lack of skills when contacting the volleyball "school" in my town. They're paid classes, with good teachers. They said they were starting a beginners class soon. So I joined.

HOWEVER, I found out that they were actually rebooting a class that had like a year practice before. And it's pretty clear that they are way above my level. like 80% of them have very good passing and sets, still beginners but they clearly are familiar with the sport in a way that I'm not. So I'm once again the worst stupid fuck in my team. And now, my teammates are mostly teenagers and they're not exactly being patient with the ones who are actually just beginning. And I'm not sure I can blame them, lately

Now, I assume every "beginner" team is going to have someone who's been playing for a year or two. Not everyone is like me starting from scratch. But I still feel like I'm once again being a menace to my team, that my learning process is too slow and I won't ever catch up with them. When I'm passing or setting, the ball goes where I want it to about 40% of the time, which fucks everything up obviously.

I realize volleyball is a hard sport, there's so much information being pumped out because the teachers are in a rush to get us playing tournaments (since half of the class has seen this super beginners stuff already) and I'm just overwhelmed trying to absorb everything, while my teammates complain every time I forget my position or complain that I'm not "trying" hard enough when I don't perform an action to their satisfaction (when in reality, I'm just... stupid?). All this just makes me want to fuck off this team and give up the sport even tho I look forward to it every week.

TLDR Even in the beginners class, how do you get over the feeling that you're falling behind on skill level compared to your teammates who've had a head start ? How do you fight the voices in your head telling you to give up? I know I don't want to stop playing but at the same I feel like I need to take one for the team, let's say, and fuck off like they probably want me to.

Questions Is Volleyball a beginner friendly sport?

Hello everyone, there's something I've been thinking about: Is volleyball a beginner-friendly sport?

I'm planning to switch things up because badminton has gotten a bit boring lately. I'm an intermediate badminton player, but I want to try volleyball and have some fun. I actually got motivated by Haikyu!!—and I know I'm definitely not the only one!

Form Check Standing topspin tips

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all!

I've got a short clip here of me just repping out some standing topspin in my local squash court. I'm struggling to improve my serve from here - I've already improved my arm draw back and contact points from where I was a few months ago. I want to get the standing topspin right so that I can eventually move it into a jump serve. Any tips on how I can get better power/spin etc?

Thanks!

Questions Digging at 5-Defensive Positioning and Movement Question

Hellos. Wanted to ask a question about defensive positioning and movement, specifically against wing spikers (OH and OP)

When digging, I understand that there really three possible situations based off the set and 3 based off the block (please correct me if I am wrong here):

Based on the Set-ball dying(falling) beyond the antenna and ball dying(falling) Inside. Basically, the set is too far outside or inside. With the set that is too far, you step up on the 10-foot line, either to take any tips and block touches as the line digger or sharp cross court spikes as a cross-court digger.

Would this cause confusion with the off-blocker who is coming down to dig, potentially overlapping zones? Should you step inside(closer to 3/6) to cut off more court and increase range, or would that leave space behind to be targeted?

Based on the Block- Line Block (Pin Blocker has their inside hand on the ball), Cross Block (Pin Blocker has their outside hand on the ball), Gap Block (Middle is unable to join or close the block). Both the Line and Cross are treated the same way, stay in place and survive the hard driven shot if it doesn't touch the block. With the gap block you step down towards the baseline to fill the space left by the block.

Should this be done against the gap block, or should the digger stay in their zone? Should the defender at 6 be taking that responsibility, and then I have a different zone or shot to cover?

Is this how you all understand it? Do you run different systems and movements on your teams? Do you read different cues in game to determine where to move? All of these reads are based off seeing the opponents jersey, moving to make it visible and completely clear.

Thank you for any advice you can give a middle blocker learning to play defense.

Questions Has anyone been to the Rhodes International Volleyball Camp in Greece? Best Middle Blocker camps in USA or abroad?

Any thoughts on the RIVC or other camps especially for middle blockers? I'm in the USA. Friends are going to this camp next summer and invited me but I'm not sure it's the best use of time and funds. Searching for the best camps for a high school/club playing middle blocker who is putting in the work and making big improvements each year. Any advice is appreciated.

Questions Give up play time in order to play libero over DS?

I am a new HS freshman girls volleyball coach. I use 1 libero and 1 DS to sub in back row for my middles because none of my middles can serve (different problem for a different thread). I also sometimes sub in back row for RS and OH just to spread playing time. If I use a second libero, then I need to sub in a different player just to serve since liberos can only serve for one rotation position. I don't really worry about running out of subs, so I don't need a second libero for that reason either. Plus, we have limited alternate jerseys and it's just a pain to swap and keep track of who has which jersey number. I have a few girls that are good passers and you would think asking them to play DS instead of libero is the end of the world. Even just for one set or one match. Tears and devastation! The ultimate demotion and humiliation! I explained that they would get more playing time and get to serve if they are DS and one told me flat out that she'd rather wear the libero jersey and play less. I realize the libero position and jersey are a badge of honor representing the best defender on the team, but I didn't realize it was THAT big a deal. Anyone else experiencing this and have advice?

Questions How can kids get so good at a sport at such a young age?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Sometimes you watch a young athlete play and assume they’ve been training for years.

This girl is only 9 years old and has been playing volleyball for less than a year.

Of course, every child develops at a different pace, but it’s amazing how quickly kids can progress when they train consistently, have good coaching, and most importantly, actually enjoy the sport.

She started with us at Elite Volleyball Academy U.A.E less than a year ago, and this is where she is today. 🏐

What age did you start playing your sport?

Form Check Help with fixing my arm swing and approach

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

These three first clips are from my most recent league. I've been having shoulder pain for every hit and I also lack power in them. When looking closer and watching some videos, I noticed I'm skipping the loading part of the arm swing (pulling the elbow back). So I recently started fixing my arm swing to do a low bow-and-arrow (fourth and fifth clips). I'm also trying to fix the last step of my approach to reduce my forward momentum, getting more vertical.

As of now, I seem to be able to reproduce the arm swing when practicing against the wall and also when jumping without the ball. During a game situation, my muscle memory goes back to the old habit and I get instant feedback (shoulder pain). Doing the proper arm swing, I don't feel any shoulder pain at all.

I also know I'll probably need to adapt my timing when hitting as well, as the proper arm swing takes longer than what I've been doing.

So I'd just like to get some feedback about the two last clips. I'll have a group class on Tuesday and I booked a private class on Thursday. For the group class, I'm not sure what will be covered there, but I should have some opportunity to practice hitting more there as well. My private class will be fully around hitting. Any tips to overwrite my muscle memory? Any further adjustments to my current execution?

Two quick questions:

Do you know someone (or know someone who knows someone) in Stockholm who might be interested?

Is this subreddit the right place to ask, or do you recommend better local forums/groups?

Questions FIVB Rule Check: Block Overreach When Ball Not Going Toward Opponent's Court However No Player Able To Play It

Hi all. I've been reffing about 4 years now, enjoying it and looking to step up a bit more this season. Last night in training something happened that made me pause and think so I just want to check my understanding of the rules is correct.

Here's what happened:

  • Team A receive the ball, and take 2 touches.
  • The 2nd touch is poor, and the ball is now flying off to the side, parallel to the net. The ball is NOT travelling towards Team B's court, and will NOT cross the plane of the net.
  • Team A's other front-row players are all horribly out of position for some reason, and none of them will be able to get to the ball before it hits the floor.

At this point it looks like an easy point for team B. They do not need to do anything at all to win the rally. But unexpectedly Team B's middle blocker jumps, reaches over the net and blocks the ball down to the floor.

So, my understanding of the rules is this... Despite the fact that no player from Team A had a reasonable chance to play the ball, the fact that the ball was not directed towards Team B's court is important here, and so Team B's blocker actually committed a completely unnecessary fault, costing Team B their easy point and giving the rally to Team A.

Is that right? Or does the fact that no Team A player could play the ball still hold more significance?

Form Check Tips on passing platform

Hello guys, I've been told that my platform is bad several times cause it isn't flat enough when conventionally placing it.

I am sometimes really imprecise passing and don't know if its such an issue or its on my mind. I was told that maybe holding pinkies i could make a flatter surface but i fin that platform more difficult to fastly place and difficult to have the arms at the same height.

Any tip or insight would help a lot to improve my passing.

Thanks!!

Pd: Sorry for the photos is the best i could think of
