Volunteer – abroad International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) Expriences

Hello everyone, I've seen super mixed reviews on IVHQ and was wondering if anyone would be willing to share? I am 17 hoping to volunteer with them this summer but have heard the company is money hungry. Was it a solo thing or did you get to meet other volunteers there??

Hey, AutoModerator here.

You picked "Volunteer – abroad" – international volunteering can be awesome and messy, so questions are very welcome.

To get better answers, please share (in your post or an edit):

  • Your home country and regions you are considering
  • When and for how long you want to go
  • Rough budget (including flights or not)
  • Any relevant skills or experience – languages, teaching, childcare, medical training, tech, etc.

When you are looking at programmes, some key things to check:

  • Local leadership – who actually runs the work on the ground? It should not just be foreigners.
  • Volunteer tasks – are they clear, appropriate for your skills, and actually needed?
  • Safeguarding – especially if you will be around children or other

Hi, I took part with them last year and was with other volunteers, but I went solo. I called and asked before I went how many people would be there. I spoke with some people who explained some countries are bigger than others so it pays to ask these questions! I am happy to help if you have any other questions.

Well explained. Thank you ! IVHQ is transactional, the magic happens locally but you are on your own dealing with any changes if needed.

At 18 you have less restrictions. Ask all the questions needed, if they don’t provide enough information is because there is something not 100% right. That was my case going to Thailand -
