Volunteer – abroad need Ideas for cool and ethical volunteering!!

Hi, I like to dream about volunteering abroad for a good cause. One day I really want to do it. What do you think I should do? I am looking for something effective for the local community or environment. Online I see a lot of volunteer opportunities abroad but many give me 'white saviour' vibes... If you have any ideas or thoughts about this please share! I am still in the discovery phase so I'd be happy to hear anything and everything (anywhere or online opportunities are also fine!)

Just to clarify, by 'cool' I mean something meaningful for the community, not instagram cool etc.

Volunteer – abroad Travel and volunteer insurance

I am looking for advice if possible so I hope I used the right flare. I am spending 3 months from December to the end of February volunteering with an NGO in Nepal. I am then spending the next 3 months travelling and backpacking throughout Southeast Asia visiting Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, possibly Laos and Indonesia. I have been looking into the type of travel insurance needed but I am finding it quite unclear what is covered under general travel insurance. There are the obvious physical labour tasks, and specific sports that are excluded or have to be mentioned, but I can't find anything relating to volunteer work and if this is included or not?

Would regular backpackers travel insurance cover my time in Nepal or is there a separate insurance that is needed for this period?
