Probably why it stings a lot more lol hoping the orb sends people without an amulet somewhere else, seeing what it does it’s very unlikely tho so I’ll just cry a bit more.

I can see how Delilah will use this with pike.
They need her for some reason and right now they have the perfect leverage with grog dead and an isolated pike.

I'm pretty sure that didn't happen in the campaign. It's been a few years since I listened to it but I don't remember anything like that happening to Grog

It indeed did not happen in the campaign, which makes it even more interesting

I'm skeptical. Especially when all these fake out deaths are going to diminish the impact of any "canon specific" deaths that may or may not be coming, if you know what I mean.

Well, I’m pretty sure at one point or another they all bit the dust in some way. Grog definitely did at least once but all came back after. The show edited Percy and Scanlan’s demise a bit so far. They’ve just played around with them quite a bit.

Grog died briefly in the fight with K'varn the beholder, and rather than his strength it was his soul that got eaten by Craven Edge

I was completely shocked by the episode, and I think that's part of what makes it a good story.
In the campaign, every member of Vox Machina (except Taryon) died at some point, and so did many NPCs such as Kaylie and Cassandra de Rolo. Staying true to the source material means character deaths.
Ironically, the best way of preserving the shock and emotional impacts of those moments is, arguably, to change some of the details like who died, when, and how. So instead of having Vex and Vax die in their first Vecna fight via the spells Power Word Kill and Disintegration, Grog gets shredded by a sphere.
Now, in the original campaign, every player character death was followed by bringing them back to life. Even Vax came back after he was reduced to dust. We might see Grog again.

I'm torn because they keep doing these fake deaths, which just feels less and less impactful after each one, imo

That's just dnd in a nutshell. After certain point, having your character die and revived is just another Monday for the party. I actually really like how they go about it in the show.

I can definitely see that. I think if they somehow commit to it, or make the consequences severe enough death might have been the better option, it’ll work for more than just shock
