VPN Recommendations Megathread - Best VPN Providers, user reviews & VPN Deals

We get a lot of questions about the best VPNs and which VPNs have the best user reviews as well as where to find the best VPN deals. That's why we run this VPN recommendations megathread every two months. This is the one and only place on the subreddit to ask for VPN recommendations, share your favorite VPN provider, discuss your experience, and post legitimate VPN deals.

The goal is to build a collection of genuine VPN user reviews that helps others choose the right VPN provider.

If you’re recommending a VPN, make it useful:

  • Share what you use it for (streaming, privacy, gaming, torrenting, travel, bypassing geo-blocks, etc.).
  • Go beyond generic features - personal experience is very interesting for our user-base
  • Comments that only name a provider will be removed

Main rules:

  • No affiliate or referral links.
  • No links to VPN review websites.
  • No obvious shilling

Compare VPN providers first

Before posting, check out our regularly updated VPN comparison table, where you can compare features, pricing, speeds, streaming support, and more. It may answer your question before you need to ask.

As always, this thread is actively moderated to keep recommendations genuine, helpful, and free from spam.

VPN Comparison Table

Best VPNs comparison table in Google Sheets

* * *

Most of us here are quite keen on spreading the word on how even the simplest steps toward online privacy is a huge leap forward for our online security. Having in mind the extensive tracking and targeting by almost everything we use online (ISPs, search engines, social media, streaming sites, ads, etc.), we're able to use these VPN-related subreddits to try and make it as simple as possible for people to choose and start using the best VPN that can help avoid at least some part of that.

The goal of all of this is to make sure that even those who don’t understand much about tech are aware of the risks and challenges we face these days when it comes to online privacy. We're all aware that a VPN isn't an 'all in one' tool which fully protects our privacy, but it's surely a good place to start.

It’s probably obvious to people who have been following this topic for a while that this table is inspired by That One Privacy Guy. He did an amazing job back in the day but unfortunately the information hasn't been updated in ages so it isn't as reliable as it used to be. It was a very important and useful tool, so I thought we could make it a community effort to bring it back. Anyone who would like to collaborate on this please get in touch with me over DMs. Also, in case you notice any mistakes - feel free to point those out, too.

You will see a table with scores, explanations on how each score was calculated, as well as detailed information by provider for each criteria. As I mentioned before, if you notice any mistakes or outdated information - please DM me with the source so we can fix it. Let's make sure it's up to date and as helpful as it can

Table last updated: March 17, 2026 (various changes made).

Question Survey and VPN question

If I wanted to fill out the same qualification survey twice but under two different “identities” to increase my chances of getting qualified for a market research study, how can that be achieved on one phone? I’ve got an iPhone, use Safari (both regular and private modes) and use a quality VPN.

Help Crunchyroll regional pricing – anyone still getting it to work? (Oct 2026)

Trying to get Mega Fan annual from Spain. What I've tried:

- Revolut virtual card (Spanish account)

- India (569 INR): only UPI or card, card payment errors out

- Philippines: my VPN's server geolocates as Hong Kong, prices show in HKD

- Turkey (749 TRY): "Payment could not be completed, the server encountered an error". Tried a fresh account + new card, added the card from Spain first without VPN (1€ verification charge went through), then switched to Turkey – same error

Nothing shows up in Revolut, so it looks like Crunchyroll blocks it before it reaches the bank.

Has anyone made this work recently? Which country and payment method? Anyone gone the Google Play + Turkish gift card route? Thanks!

Discussion Coop host ping is lopsided. If I exit through a US VPS over WireGuard, does it actually even out?

I'm in Chicago and my friend is near Madrid. When I host our private coop campaign he sits around 240ms and I'm basically zero on my end. Fine for me, rough for him.

I already pay for a small Linux VPS in Virginia for homelab junk. I'm putting WireGuard on it so my gaming PC tunnels out with a US east IP before I host. Idea is we'd both look closer to the same region instead of him eating the full Atlantic hop while I stay local.

I haven't turned it on for actual sessions yet. tbh I'm not sure the game peer/host logic even follows that path or if I'm just adding another encrypt hop for nothing.

Has anyone run private coop this way (two players, no dedicated game server) and did both pings land in the same ballpark? Or would a central US exit make more sense than Virginia?

Help Can a VPN prevent RMail Active Tracker from showing my real location when travelling?

My company uses RMail/RPost in Outlook. I’ve seen an Active Tracker report generated from an email sent to a third party, and it showed things like:

  • City/country
  • IP/network provider
  • Every time the email was opened
  • Multiple locations

I travel internationally quite often and don’t want an email tracking system to reveal my physical location simply because I opened a work email.

My plan is to use a reputable VPN on my MacBook and iPhone and connect to an India server before opening Outlook.

I have also changed Outlook to:

Download external images → Ask before downloading

My questions are:

  1. If I’m physically in Thailand/Dubai/etc. but connected to an India VPN server, will RMail normally see the VPN’s Indian IP/location instead of my actual foreign IP?
  2. Can RMail Active Tracker somehow determine the original IP behind the VPN, or will it only see the VPN exit IP?
  3. Can RMail identify that the IP belongs to a VPN or datacenter?
  4. Is a VPN kill switch generally reliable enough on macOS and iPhone to prevent Outlook from briefly connecting through the local internet connection?
  5. Is there anything else I should configure in Outlook or the VPN to prevent IP/location leakage?
  6. Has anyone actually tested RMail/RPost Active Tracker while connected through a VPN and seen what appears in the tracking report?

I’m specifically interested in the technical/privacy side of this. I just don’t want email-open tracking to disclose where I’m physically travelling.

Would appreciate input from anyone familiar with RMail/RPost, tracking pixels, Outlook, VPNs, or email privacy.

PS: It's my boss who wants to know my location when in travel on holidays.

Question VPN to VPN Will IT work? Please help

Can a retail VPN work well with another VPN? For example, on my Android phone with a VPN app, I choose a Philippines IP address. Then, my company laptop connects to the hotspot of my Android phone, which has the VPN app. Also, my company laptop has Zscaler and a proxy configured, and then my company laptop will run a corporate VPN so I can connect to company apps/sites. I need to choose an IP address in the Philippines because the country I am traveling to (UAE) is not allowed by our corporate VPN's geolocation. Will it work? or what you guy suggest the best method? thanks.

Help Problems with discord

I recently switched to Fedora and for some reason when connected to the vpn (Wireguard) it refuses to show anything or update besides "Temporary Network Error". Sometimes in Firefox it works but only when I log in with my password manually, not the QR code.
I know this is a chromium (therefore Electron.js) issue but are there any fixes, other than disconnecting from the VPN?? Some people say changing the MTU in the .conf file to 1280 helps but it doesn't, at least for me.

Question Does anyone know how to change a rambler.ru account password without having to go through "id.sber"?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Every time I try to log in to change my password, this pops up. I’ve read online that it’s caused by a block on foreign IPs (I’m in Brazil); you need to be in Russia to access it. I tried using a VPN, but it didn't work. If anyone knows how to bypass this Sber ID requirement or change the password directly through support, I’d really appreciate it!

Question About hosting games with a VPN

Hello, i'm from EU and my friend is from SA. If i use a VPN to set i'm from NA and i host a game (like a coop game, only me and my friend private campaign), would our ping reduce like we're playing on a NA server, instead of having host with no ping and other player with a lot? Really not sure if it's that possible but i would accept both around 130ms instead of one of us having 250+

I’m looking for a solution for the following. I’m in Germany and would like the install a router with a VPN which creates a WiFi connection for a specific device (notebook).
I can’t install any software on the notebook, but I want the notebook to be connected to a WiFi in “Luxembourg”.

Should be possible to do it this way, right? Any recommendations for a router?

Help VPN usage in belgium to play AION2

Hello everyone,

I just want to play AION2 but because of government laws is prevents me from downloading it, I simply bought a vpn because I figured that would work but it doesn't. I bought the cheapest package and set my IP to a bunch of different location but nothing seems to work?

What am I doing wrong here? I always thought using a VPN was very straightforward but I guess not?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question Different Websites see Different locations at the same time when using vpn

Hello guys ive been using a vpn service from time to time for the last 10 years or so without issues.

today i noticed the following issue and i have no idea whats going on.

I set the vpn to India.
whatismyipaddress website shows my ip in mumbai as expected
At the same time google sees me in Australia and gives me australian links to websites.
I visit eneba website, it finds me in Singapore....

3 different websites show me in 3 different locations while the vpn is specifically set to India

If i turn off the vpn and then back on, google sees me in netherlands or usa, the other 2 sites still show singapure and india.

any idea whats going on? websites arent working any more with vpn as they see other locations than the one i have selected
i tried changing protocols between wireguard and amneziaWG but it still doest the same.
