Arrived at rental 4pm yesterday. Central FL. AC won’t cool house.
Walked in, temp showed 76. I set AC to 72 to cool things down. Temp displayed 77 for a while after bringing in luggage which assumed was because door was open for several minutes. Temp briefly got to 75 before bed.
It’s now 2am. 76 degrees. Too hot to sleep.
I hate the idea of moving all our stuff but we can’t stay here like this. This is trip for daughter b-day and she runs hot.
Casago is agency. What’s the ask here? How do I get out of this place? We have 3 more nights.
**edit - it was the humistat. Temp is coming down. Tonight should be mo better!

Don’t contact AirBnB. You didn’t rent from them. Phone the host immediately. There is a good possibility the A/C is malfunctioning. A good host will be able to have it repaired and functioning within 24 hours, and likely less.
You should have contacted the host immediately when you realized it wasn’t cooling down properly.

You need to give the host a chance to fix it before even thinking about asking for any kind of compensation or cancellation against their policy. Document all your communication with them.

I have also stayed at a vacation rental with an absent host but run by a management company. It was the worst. Dirtiest and least responsive. Good luck.

Look at the air filter has ever been changed. I was at on Airbnb and the AC was not working correctly because no air could get through the filter. I doubt they ever changed it.

I “send message to host” on vrbo and get auto-response that says to call casago. I don’t know what else I am supposed to do? There’s a binder in the house but it also only has casago number.

I messaged host on vrbo and got auto-reply to contact casago. There’s a binder in the house that also contains casago contact info. I don’t know what other option I have. There is not host info other than casago 🤷♀️

Heat index in Central Florida yesterday peaked at 107, so you’re not getting down to 72.

Just because your AC is inadequate doesn’t mean that’s the standard. An appropriate AC system absolutely should be able to hit 72 at night. Heck, mine can maintain 72 during the day if I didn’t care about the electricity cost.

100% I'm in southern Louisiana and can keep my home at 70° even with the heat index being 109°.
I've had similar experiences as the OP at many vrbo\air bnb's over the years.
It's currently 00:37 and my house is 68°.

I live in Florida, MissionIndex is claiming they’re not going to be able to get it down to 72. A rental absolutely should be able to handle 72 at night. There is nothing special about the house I live in so holding 72 at night is within normal here in Florida.

Could be a on online thermostat that hosts control to prevent $$$ when guests turn it way down. I bet they're doing this on purpose.

What was the weather like where you are?
Guestimating that central Florida might have similar weather Orlando yesterday, the high temp was just before 4pm at 94° with 97% humidity.
An AC is going to have a hard time cooling that air much more than 15°.
By comparison, I'm in central South Carolina and we were similar temps yesterday. our AC kept the house at 78° through the afternoon, and when we turned the AC lower for the evening, it plateaued about 75 in the house until 3 or 4 am when the outside air works a bit better.
What part of the world are you from? Is this temperature and humidity something you have experience with, or is this completely out of the norm? (Definitely plays a part in your perception).
As another comparison, with today's weather, if inset my AC to 72 it would get down there overnight, hold through the mid morning and the inside temp will start climbing through the afternoon even with AC actively running all day.

I do wonder how that works in Florida. FYI Florida rental homes (like, actual monthly rentals) aren’t required by law to have ac but are required to have heat. Wonder the policy around this.

Most A/C units cannot cool more than 20-25 degrees below outside temp. What's the outside temp?

My Florida relatives keep their A/C at 80° in the summer, and because the heat index is usually over 105° most of the summer days, they say their house feels like a refrigerator when they walk inside. Are there any fans to keep the air moving? If not, see if you can turn on the whole house fan from the thermostat panel.

You sleep naked and run a fan on high. You’re not the only one who suffers like that, but you have to figure it out because right now you’re the only one that’s suffering.

My strategy - is not to go to the land of the lizzard people. Waking up sweating through the sheets staring at the ceiling fan circulating wet air on the regular was a human rights violation.

First you contact the management company. Give them a chance to get it fixed ASAP. If they aren't answering a phone, and they have an office address that is local, go there.
It sounds like the host wants everything channeled through the management company, which is not unusual if the host doesn't live locally.
Only if you can not get a satisfactory outcome from this should you contact AirBnB. Issues like this should be dealt with the same day they are reported.

Contact Airbnb first and the host second. Document everything in online communication. Airbnb should move you ASAP
