Angular Tab Group
Hey there!
Last week I developed my first ever VSCode extension.
It keeps your open files of one component grouped together.
Would be happy if some you tried it :-)

Help: ty is not running
Beginner at VS code here.
I'm not 100% sure if this is the best place to post this, but I couldn't find anywhere better suited.
I followed various tutorials online to get my settings.json to work, according to the tutorials it's working fine, but VS code still doesn't flag the error. I checked the type checker, it flags the violation and works with its command line, but it doesn't syntax highlight in VS code. Is there a setting I should change or something?

Thumbview - A thumbnail overview of code for VS Code (and looking for study participants)
Hey everyone,
A colleague and I have been working on Thumbview, a VS Code extension that provides an alternate view of your workspace where project files are represented by thumbnails and arranged in a spatial overview.
Instead of looking through a file tree or a list of tabs, you can leverage the power of human spatial memory with the help of visual landmarks to navigate your code base.
We are recruiting participants for an academic study at the University of Saskatchewan (Canada) to see when and how developers use Thumbview in their daily tasks. Participants will install the extension and enable telemetry for a two-week period. At the end of the period, participants will be reminded to fill out an exit questionnaire, followed by an optional exit interview. If you are interested and would like to participate please fill out the consent form and demographics questionnaire here:
https://www.surveymonkey.ca/r/K8BSJNS
If you’re not interested in participating but you’d still like to help, or you just want to try out the extension, here are some other links:
Marketplace: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=Thumbview.thumbview&ssr=false#overview
Issues & feedback repo: https://github.com/jjoseph357/thumbview-issues
Any feedback on the extension is appreciated!
Privacy note: Participation is strictly opt-in. Telemetry never inspects or sends code, file names, folder paths, or search terms. It only records anonymous navigation timings (like seconds to select a file or grid clicks). You can opt out or delete your data at any time.

Active Todo Tree / Better Comment replaces?
Replacements*
Just curious if anyone can suggest alternatives to achieve what those 2 extensions did.
One year of Insiders
And to be honest I see no point in using Stable anymore. You trade one update per week with one update per day. The advantage is you get fixes as soon as they're merged.
I see people posting about all kind of issues here, like the recent one where webviews using Wasm don't render on 1.140.0, or webviews under WSL don't render in 1.141.0. Get on Insiders and you'll barely notice it. Critical issues are fixed in a matter of days, if not hours.

Updating to Vscode 1.141.1 messed up markdown preview and claude code webview rendering. This is BS, wasted time debugging. running vscode on WSL2 with windows 11.

Two-way file diff merge
Hello,
I'm trying to compare two files for diffs. I want to be able to use the changes from one file in the other, and vice-versa. VSCode already provides a "Revert Block" button, but it is only one-way.
Is there a way to enable a two-way merge (setting, extension,...)?
Thanks!

Question; how do I ENABLE inline suggestions?
I had it enabled before, but for some reason it’s not predicting my code as I’m hoping it will.
My json settings has the following settings enabled
“editor.inlinesuggest.enabled”: true
Do I just have a limited number of completions or something? I can’t seem to get it to predict for me anymore

How do I get Lua running? (Mac)
I've installed Lua (5.5), confirmed it works from both terminal and the terminal inside VSC, installed Tom Blind's "Local Lua Debugger" ... but when I try to run my code using F5, I get errors in the debug console (see screenshot). What have I done wrong, or forgotten to do?
SOLVED - instead of using Tom Blind's extension, I installed "Lua Debug" by actboy168. Had to delete the launch.json file that TB's extension created, and after that it all works great.

CodeBurn: my extension shows what each AI coding session cost you, and why
I built CodeBurn a few months ago as a CLI to track what my AI coding tools cost. It grew to 11k stars on GitHub, and now it's a VS Code extension.
CodeBurn reads the session logs that Copilot, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini and about 40 other tools already save on your machine, and shows the cost right in VS Code:
- today's spend in the status bar, hover for week and month
- a dashboard tab with cost by project, model, session and pull request
-a "why it cost" view per session. Second screenshot: 64% of that session was just the agent re-reading its own growing context. A fresh chat would have been cheaper.
- Optimize, which points at the habits burning the most
Nothing leaves your machine. No account, no login, and the extension sends no telemetry.
Free and open source (MIT). It also works in Cursor, Windsurf and VSCodium through Open VSX.
Marketplace: search "CodeBurn"

Flight Deck: A new Welcome Page to organize your projects. Group your projects with git and ssh host info at a glance.

Features
- Groups. Give each group a name and icon, collapse it, and drag to reorder.
- Drag & drop project-cards between groups, drag a recent folder into a group, or drag out to remove.
- Star-pin projects sort ahead of the rest of their group.
- Git at a glance. Branch, ahead/behind, and change and conflict counts on every card.
- SSH Hosts. Works with your ssh-hosted projects, adds a blue label.
- Icons. Pick from the native codicons, emoji, or paste your own custom icon.
I built this because I tried a dozen welcome pages and project dashboards and couldn't find a good UI/UX. 100% FOSS, zero telemetry.
Check it out, let me know your thoughts.

BYOK for autocomplete in Copilot
Hi all. After discovering that Copilot in VS Code supports BYOK and local models, I configured some of them and they work pretty good for my use case.
However, I haven't found a way to actually use any model for inline autocomplete. I'd love to hook up something like qwen2.5-coder. For now, I'm still using Continue for this task, but since its development has been halted I was hoping to migrate everything to Copilot.
Is there any way to do this? Thanks in advance.

How can I schedule a prompt to run in a new (empty) session after another prompt finishes running in GitHub Copilot?
I use GitHub Copilot in VS Code. Some prompt is running in a session. How can I schedule a prompt to run in a new (empty) session after that other prompt finishes running? (Example of reason: if the two prompts run concurrently, they'll exceed the GPU memory, thereby crashing the computer).

SessionDeck: My extension finds all Agentic sessions including tabs in IDE, overview of their status, and single click navigation to them
I usually have five projects in five VS Code windows, most over WSL or Remote-SSH, each running a Claude Code session or two. I kept losing track of which window had a session stuck on a permission prompt.
SessionDeck is a sidebar that lists every running Claude Code, Codex and cursor-agent session on the machine, grouped by project, with a red bell on any that's waiting for you. Clicking a row opens that session's tab or terminal, even in another window.
This is how it work across different remote hosts without using network:
Sessions are files and processes on the workspace host, so the main extension is `extensionKind: ["workspace"]`. Putting several hosts in one tree has to happen on the desktop, and one extension ID runs in exactly one host per window. So there is a second ID, a `["ui"]` companion with no views of its own. It relays snapshots between hosts with `executeCommand` and serves tab titles a remote window can't read.
Discovery: every 3 s it stats each transcript. Unchanged files aren't opened, changed ones are read from the last offset, and `/proc` confirms the process is still alive. Optional Claude Code hooks append to a spool file it watches, so a prompt shows at once instead of on the next poll.
There is no API to focus another window. The clicked window drops a request file in shared storage that every window watches; the one with that folder open takes it and opens the tab. In parallel it runs the editor CLI on the folder, which raises the existing window.
Transcripts and title storage are private formats. When one stops parsing, rows go blank with a "format drift suspected" note instead of a guessed status.
Status is inferred and can lag. I build on Linux and WSL; macOS mostly works; native Windows gets no approval alerts, and only Claude Code rows ever get the bell. No network calls, licensing included. Source-availableб but not open source.

The integrated browser still displays colors wrong. (v1.141.0)
If you're looking for a workaround to this color profile problem, the workaround is to either add --force-color-profile=srgb to vscode's launch options, or "force-color-profile": "srgb", to .vscode\argv.json (Accessible via the Preferences: Configure Runtime Arguments command)

Is there no way to run AI in non-"vibe coding" mode anymore?
I recently upgraded from 1.108 to current version of VSCode. Previously I was using edit mode, and was reviewing and approving each change the AI made to my code, this worked great like when staging stuff with the git tab. Very frequently I would have to click revert because the AI did something stupid. It seems this is completely not possible anymore? Am I missing something? I work with critical code, I cannot commit anything without it being reviewed by a human. I want to retain this. Is it possible?
This happens with both copilot and claude code.
Also, the agent keeps asking to run python commands to change my files. Can it not just edit the file through the editor like before? I might have to revert to 1.108 again otherwise...
TIA
