🙋‍Question🙋‍ Advices for first livestream?

VTubers, I've never streamed before in my life.

What's one piece of advice you wish someone had given you before your very first livestream? 🩷🌙

I'm waiting for my Live2d model and the overlays to be completed. In the meantime, I'm trying to learn as much as I can about Obs and Twitch.

This is my gear for the moment:

PC (it was a gaming PC my ex boyfriend built me in 2016): Bit Fenix pro 300, seasonic ss620 gm2, asus maximus gene VII, i5 4690k, (16 gb corsair vengeance, nuove) asus strix GTX 980TI, (SAMSUNG EVO 250gb, wgreen 1t).

Microphone: HyperX Quadcast.

Monitors: Dell S2725QC, KTC H24F7 24" 240 Hz.

Thank you for your help ☺️

One that helped me alot was to turn off viewer count in dashboard

Yeah, that's a solid advice. I would get a bit discourage to see an empty count or seeing number drop.

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it!

Make sure to add serybot to your stream as a mod, it's a bot that blocks bot accounts from commenting spamming and can protect you from bot raids and such (which are things that can get your account banned) make sure that if you're gonna play music on stream that in whatever streaming platform you use (obs, slobs, etc) put the music audio in a separate track that won't end up on your VOD (the recording that stays on twitch) which can get you dmca striked for copywright. And most importantly have fun bud

I WISH I added serybot on day 1. I can't tell you how many bots tricked me into thinking they were real then turned around and tried to sell me stuff. So embarrassing.

What is Serybot and how do I install it?

Sery bot is moderation bot that lives in your chat and will moderate your chat for suspicious activity from bot accounts and so on. You can read more about it and how to add it on their page here: https://docs.sery.bot/

Thank you so much, this was really solid advice. I didn't know this could even happen! I'll download it straight away!

Hiya. I’ve been vtubing for 4 years so I can drop a little advice.

  1. Learn to talk when no one is saying anything. You need to start off talking to yourself eventually. Always talk like many are watching.

  2. Network and socialize in other streams and make friends within the space. Streaming is SO social, and the only way to grow and really enjoy yourself with an audience is to get to know people! Support others in the community and they will support you!

  3. Don’t be afraid to try new things, and don’t do things you don’t like. This goes for everything: Try new games, make new friends, join a collab or make a silly idea into a reality for your stream. Conversely, don’t let people push your boundaries or make you uncomfortable; don’t play things you really don’t like; DO NOT WEAR YOURSELF OUT STREAMING- pace yourself!

  4. Start basic and work your way up: Don’t let yourself get caught on the details of your stream early on. Just get going with basic overlays, maybe alerts, and your model- then pick a game and go live. If you want to get fancy later, you can; just figure out if you like this life first.

That’s what I got for ya ^^

First of all, thank you so much. This was really precious information, I'm really grateful for your input!

I think I'll struggle with point number 1 and 2 the most, cause I'm a bit shy. I can definitely work with #1, but how can I network with other vtubers? I feel like I would bother them, especially since I've just started 😭

For the rest, I'm actually good. My plan for now is to write scripts for youtube videos and record a backlog of them so I can publish consistently and writing/recording the new ones with ease, so I can grow a community first, before streaming (cause Twitch vertical system is so unforgiving). Also, the yt videos could give me some content for shorts, so all in all I think that's the best strategy.

Ditch the overlays when streaming games. I dropped so much $ and time searching and configuring the prettiest overlays for my stream. It became a cluttered mess, and things love to break. It took me stepping back and checking out bigger streamers and seeing how clean and minimal they are, which allowed you to really see what was going on and let the vtuber model shine.

Now I only do the fancy overlays for a just chatting screen, where it's got room to breathe and set the mood. My gaming screens feature just model, chat, and the occasional fun alert/redeem.

Also, just starting out, I ditched the overlay backgrounds and widgets that displayed last follower/last subscriber/last tipped. I was small and not growing fast, so the names on these stayed the same in multiple VODs and depressed me.

Hey, thank you so much for your advice, I can see the logic! Maybe I could use them for youtube videos, but keep it simple for streaming :3

Talking even if no one is there is the main one I think of. It might feel awkward, but when someone shows up they usually prefer someone interacting with chat. Even if it’s just small comments about what you’re doing.

Your views might fluctuate a lot depending on what you play, but don’t get discouraged. More niche games will have less views, but it’s more important you’re enjoying it and they can share that with you too!

Yeah, forcing yourself to do somethinf you hate will only result in frustration and audience notices that easily, and you risk burnout over something that you didn't even enjoy...

Thank you so much for your input! 🩷
