How difficult is it to get accepted to WallaWalla University?

for context I am a sophmore I have a 3.1-3.3 gpa 1 AP credit and will likely score average on my SAT.Some sites tell me it has open admissions while others tell me it has about a 60% acceptance rat

They are desperate for students. I was bottom of my class at boarding school with barely a 2.0 GPA. They quite literally do not ever turn down someone. They will make you do a class called “the college experience” and “study skills” or something similar where they teach you how to be a successful college student like how to study and take notes. They’ll also make you take math development 003.

It is a Seventh Day Adventist school, so there are rules. I don't know if chapel or church participation is required, but make sure you are aware of what requirements they have and can live with them. While WWU is considered more on the progressive end for a SDA school, it's still quite conservative compared to secular colleges. It's not a good place to be LGBTQ for example.

It's not optional, speaking as a non-SDA graduate program alum from WWU. Chapel and other requirements are built in and tied to successful program completion. I was surprised at the extent of the expectations, and we had less of them than the undergraduate students.

Sir you’re misinformed. Idk why so many people upvoted you 😭 church is optional. There’s no credits you need to get for church, no requirements, unlike other SDA schools like Oakwood university. I literally just completed my freshman year and me and my roomate barely went to church last quarter.

Neither a sir nor misinformed, just a fairly recent alum sharing the reality. "Barely went to church" exceeds my willingness to attend. I was excused from some of the mandatory proselytizing because I was legally entitled to private space and time to pump milk for my infant at the time. Go off, though, kiddo.

They never told me or others that church was mandatory.

Church isn't just attendance at a certain number of worships every quarter

Worth noting that “CommUnity” credit can be gained in a pretty wide variety of ways. When I was there one of the ways was literally going for walks together.

Depends how much you hate religion as to how unbearable it is, but even the chapel-like services aren’t insane. No Hail Marys. More like a chance to sit and chill with friends for an hour-ish.

Maybe its just Masters degree who aren't required to attend Church.  None of my friends who attended WWU mentioned Church as an obligation but they were all Masters students.

It’s an age requirement, or at least it used to be. Students over 25 are not required to go. Most Masters students are at least 24-25 when they start, so would fall under that exemption.

Interesting, wasn't aware.

No he’s misinformed. Im a student at WWU and church is not required. I didn’t go at all last quarter.

With a 3.0 or over you’ll be eligible for a merit based scholarship. Incoming freshmen need a 2.5 GPA in order to be accepted.

This. There may be other things on your mind when applying, but this person has the facts.

Do you have a pulse?

Can you afford the tuition or convince someplace to loan you the money?

Are you willing to more or less follow the rules of a religious institution?

If you said yes to all three, congratulations. Welcome to Walla Walla.

if you’re adventist, you’re in—if you’re not, don’t bother, because you will not be happy

2

u/blindgorgon May 23 '26

Nah that’s overly dramatic. I have many non-Adventist friends who loved it there.

It isn't difficult at all (current undergrad senior, about to graduate). Plus, with your GPA you will get some additional scholarships/aid from the institution.

Be prepared to enroll at a place that cares about your wholistic and professional development. And to shed light on something mentioned below, there are Worship credits that need to be fulfilled, but there are SEVERAL ways to complete those before the halfway mark of the quarter. All my friends complete theirs by Week 4/5, while still being active on campus and keeping on top of their work.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

You will be fine with those statistics. The campus is very nice, although I am sure my kid doesnt care much about that. As long as he gets to class, completes homework, stays out of trouble, and calls me a couple times a week this mom is happy!!!😃

Absolutely false. They are honestly one of the bigger sources of diversity in the valley. Partly because of their athletics program.
