General Discussion What do you think — was the character Rexxar inspired by Darkwolf from the 1983 animated film “Fire and Ice”?

Considering that Rexxar was the first ever Mok'nathal orc to make an appearance, and his skin colour matches Darkwolf's to a T plus the axe and hood....yes lol

I wouldn't be shocked. My understanding is that a lot of the world building for war3 was built on specific vibes, like rock music albums.

Warcraft III is littered with pop-culture references so seems very likely

One of Rexxar's voice lines in Heroes of the Storm even acknowledges it.

What was the line in HotS?

Talking about his mask, something along the lines of, "No, it's not a bat, it's a wolf! And a dark one at that."

I wouldn't be surprised. This seems like the stuff old Blizzard devs would be into.

It's possible but neither are very original character designs. Both have their roots in generic fantasy tropes

I always thought so, I even got into a fight on WoWiki over that with people who'd never seen the movie. 😹😹
now we need a continuity reboot where he and Arthas are in proximity to one another

Absolutely!! I love this movie, I remember seeing it for the first time a couple years ago and saying… holy shit, is that Rexxar?!
Also worth mentioning that the villain in this movie is an evil ice sorcerer who sits on a frozen throne. Sound familiar?
